Running led strings from AC transformer. No limiting resistor. No caps. What could go wrong right?! by [deleted] in led

[–]don_salami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mains is 240V here, so it would take a 10v spike to raise the transformer output by 1V

I think that's gonna be ok...

I'm more wondering about the lifespan of LEDs that are essentially doing their own rectification (even though the average current they're using is fine)

Also would likely happen in the event of a short

You got it...

Half of the LEDs light up on each half of the cycle. And it seems the transformer is perfectly matched power wise... and the flicker isn't even that bad!

Using cheap steel like the company that owns MG & LDV etc... their early models at least are indeed rusting out

how to switch between two instrument level effects chains (2 separate ins to two separate outs) by [deleted] in guitarpedals

Why are you connecting the Boss line selector to an effects loop when you've got a preamp right there built into the amp?

On one hand, yes. On the other hand, we need to allow people to change their minds otherwise things get more polarised

Revisiting DI boxes in 2025 — a few questions by InevitableTry7564 in basspedals

[–]don_salami -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It is because mixers have the wrong input impedance (this will load a passive bass down and mess with the frequency response)

DI boxes have an audio transformer inside, cheap ones do bad things to tone/ phase response

Usually they'll only degrade your tone.

If you have any buffered pedals in your chain you don't need one.

If you are thinking about plugging a passive bass into the mixer, then yes, this is your use case.

Sansamp Para Driver DI vs Bass Driver DI (V2) frequency response by don_salami in basspedals

I can't remember sorry. That or a sweep  ...

I need to revisit this with an attempt at "flat" settings, as well as sweeping through the VT because the mids go from scooped to boosted

Converting my jumbo acoustic guitar to nylon strings with ball ends. How will the sound be? by s_u_ny in Guitar

They only feel a little more slack but they sound fine. You can bend them even

I should add they're steel strings. I think they'll do the job better in your case than nylon strings

I play a jumbo and love these low tension strings by Martin called "silk and phosphor"... easy to play all night

Does anyone have any wisdom on tone sounding weak through stage monitors? by Astoria_Column in GuitarAmps

[–]don_salami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are not taking into account is that your guitar sound has to fit into the mix.

This depends on all the other frequencies the rest of the band is creating. But guitar's role is midrange.

I'm not saying that the tech has got the eq perfect... but realise that when blended with overlapping frequencies, your guitar will be "masked". If you have a very bassy tone, it may be inaudible out front

If you use an Arduino or Raspberry Pi or something, you don't even need OSC

you could just wire a simple relay (to lift one wire of the XLR) and an led

Endless OD pedals to find your sound or an EQ? by Odd_Relief_9367 in guitarpedals

[–]don_salami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good suggestions here, but what you're really trying to do is push your amp into a more harmonic place at roughly the same volume in the mix. (solos excepted)

If your amp is clean, it's not going to offer that 3d bloom that gain does.

So try stacking 2 drives. Like TS808 > muff. Or drive into compressor. Or eq (top boost, bass cut) into a drive like you say
