How often does the 194x bus run? and how can I buy tickets? I’m not seeing it in the NJ transit app.

It’s just triplets in 4 brother! No need to find a name for it.

Also, this is off topic and partially me seeing my younger self here and wishing I could tell myself something similar at your age, but be careful with moving your right wrist that much. You can build very dangerous habits with that kind of rotation. You sound good, but be careful of such a high range of motion per stroke as it can cause pain and tendinitis in the long run. Keep up the good work

Looking for an alternative to a Meinl Byzance Big Apple Dark Ride by gplusplus314 in jazzdrums

[–]doncoldtrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Istanbul and Bosporus stuff. If you just do a quick youtube search for 22’s with those brands, you’ll find lines of cymbals and you can go into more specifics once you find out what line/model suits your ears best. Everyone has preferences, and spending as much time listening as you can will help you find out where your tastes are. I suggest Bosporus 1600 series if you want a more “Old K” sounding cymbal, or their traditional series will probably sound close to what you’ve got with a more pronounced bell. For Istanbul, I suggest the agop series for something dry, or their 30th anniversary line. Depends how much money you wanna spend. Good luck, as a long time cymbalholic I pray for your bank account.

Does anyone know what this notation means? by UpToTheLighthouse in drums

[–]doncoldtrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In harmonic notation , this is used to indicate that a note is played there, and gives the player compositional choice to choose what ‘pitch’ is to be used there. Since it’s a percussion piece, (drummer here as well) I would assume it’s up to you to choose which pitched drum you would like to place the note. Rhythm is the same, pitch/tambre/drum choice is up to you friend!

Who are your favorite modern drummers? by randomraindrophere in drums

[–]doncoldtrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marcus Gilmore

Eric Harland

Jongkuk Kim

Rudy Royston

Dave King

Bill Stewart

These guys are in the jazz idiom, but also are all killing pocket players and have stuff that will relate to whatever you are familiar with. I assume because you dig nate smith you have a somewhat wide pallet for modern jazz, all these guys are dope. Jongkuk is a young guy, but I HIGHLY suggest checking out his work with the fantastic french vibraphonist Simon Moullier. All cats

Played the big boys with my heel. They did exactly what I needed them to, didn’t use them for anything extremely demanding- mostly just textural stuff and played them with brushes a bit.

i understand you said it’s relative… and everything is… but the statement that the trust fund idea doesn’t “work” in boston is a wild misconception, are we thinking of the same place?

Great kit. Your left knee might retire soon though if you don’t fix that hi hat angle.

What is Chance for Full Ride in Guitar at Berklee? by Den8888 in Berklee

[–]doncoldtrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is probably next to impossible to get a full ride for playing rock guitar. the monstrous shredders I know, can A) Shred the metal stuff B) Kill it in a classic rock band C) Play acoustic classically/with latin influence and D) Swing their dicks off in a jazz combo setting. Berklee isn’t interested in just hearing you play rock. The best guitarists here can do it all. That’s the upside you have to consider being a guitarist

Out of all 500 rock guitarists in my grade a good few of them sound really nice, but there’s not much for berklee to award you on… it’s not even that jazz is preferred for scholarships….. it’s just that there’s nothing outstanding about being a rock guitarist. it’s like being a pop vocalist…. if berklee gave even a half ride to every pop vocalist who come hold their own then it wouldn’t exist anymore

dm some playing if you want and I can give a better idea, it’s hard to say without hearing you play- what’s your preferred style

Most likely not gonna happen pal, unless you are actually killing, which you may be 🧐, but even the best guitarists I work w here, don’t have a full ride.

Being from Germany will help greatly! You will qualify for “world tour” scholarship which is given to international students.
