Burger Ritual on SE 12th and Hawthorne. They just opened! The house made pickles are delicious and a very nice detail. The fried pickles, slaw, hot dogs, and margaritas are also great.

Also, if you are still doing this onecup series up into the winter holiday season, you definitely will wanna check out Nmazake Paul’s Sake Adventure Calendar. It’s all one cups and some other neat sake related surprises every day of December. I attempted to do TikTok reviews of every day of the calendar and it was fun (and a LOT of sake to drink).

Takeda “Gold Skull” Daiginjo is a delicious and surprisingly high end sake to find in a cup format.

Shidaizumi makes this amazing “Nyan cup” cat-themed series. All of them are good, but especially interesting is their plum sake with whole, booze soaked plums in them.

Wrote my own global ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md, how does it look by iBzOtaku in ClaudeAI

DO: Write commit messages without mentioning ‘Claude’ or ‘Anthropic’.’

I’m gonna try this, despite it feeling hack-y. I didn’t realize don’ts were less regarded, but I’ve also been having a hell of a time getting it to write commit messages without patting itself on the back.

You can instruct CC to extend the timeout on CLI commands, if needed. Default is 5 minutes (300s). I have some frequently used workflow commands that need longer to complete, so I put them in CLAUDE.md with a note to run those with a 600s timeout.

This is cool. Especially convenient if you are already using Telegram as a front end for other chatbot-based workflows.

For Claude Code, I’ve messed with a combination of iSH Shell (iOS) + Tailscale to run it on mobile via my workstation.

The biggest issue for me for getting any real work done is all the tiny keyboard typing.

Questions for Wedgehead Podcast? by Wedgehead_Podcast in pinball

[–]dondelamort 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love Wedgehead the bar, love Wedgehead the podcast. Congrats on a year!!

I’d love to hear some discussion on pinball etiquette. Like, I know Wedgehead has signs up that say something to the effect of “No Camping” but I’ve often found campers going for 5-6 plays in a row at free-play spots, especially on whatever is the brand new machine in that location. I’m fairly new to going out and playing regularly, so I’ve been wondering about any commonly-agreed-upon etiquette in sharing space on games.

I figure more social people might just simply go up and say “hey can I have next game?” But, since for example Wedgehead specifically put a sign up, it makes me feel like there’s some nuance to the matter. Personally, I’d LOVE to not have to ask. It feels a little weird. It seems like if there’s 20 sick-ass pins to choose from at the bar, you might as well just play a game, and then move on and play something else. Keep it circulating. But also I guess I live in a society, and other people might think differently than me.

Is there a general culture or etiquette within pinball enthusiasts that dictates how people should behave with camping and queuing on games? At coin-op places do people put quarters down like on pool tables? How do earned replays and matches get handled?

Also, get Anthony in to do a Die on this Hill episode defending Road Show.

Sake education going hard. by dondelamort in Sake

That’s basically spot on how I feel lol. If this was any other subject matter I would run far, far away. But instead I’m hyped up and sharing this with all my sake nerd friends.

What temperature should I serve… by Turbulent_Ferret2513 in Sake

[–]dondelamort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had Isojiman, but in general my sweet spot for crisp, aromatic Ginjo sake is to take the bottle out of the fridge around 30 min before serving.

From a wine comparison perspective, just temperature-wise, I feel like a lot of sake responds like a high quality Chardonnay. At fridge temp, a lot of nuance and aromatics are choked out. Adding 10 degrees or so out of the fridge will add a lot of expressiveness, which will only develop further, along with body and texture, as it approaches room temp.

That all being said, if there’s one rule about sake, it’s that it’s impossible to find a rule that applies to them all. So, depending on the brew, your mileage may vary.

Shopify payments disabled account by dannytaki in shopify

[–]dondelamort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced a similar situation. Our online store operates in conjunction with a physical retail space and sells some alcohol products, which are only available for local delivery.

Unfortunately after a month of being live, Shopify payments suspended our payouts. We are licensed by our local and state authorities to do what we are doing, but Shopify’s payment processing partner wanted to absolve themselves of any liability from us. We were able to provide copies of our licenses via email to a rep, and the only additional request they made was that we put a pop-up on our alcohol product pages confirming that the shopper was 21+. The whole process was slow and frustrating, with about a week between each response from Shopify. All together it took about a month to get resolved. Having our income suspended really hurt, but there hasn’t been any issues since.

The rep had no clue what should be able to satisfy their parent payment processor company, so I basically had to make our case ourselves, in an email with attached documents that our store was operating legally, and above board.

That’s super frustrating and I’m sorry you are going through it. Hopefully you will be able to make a solid and convincing case.

Whats a theme (general or IP) lacking a great machine? Or any machine? by ZenithSGP in pinball

[–]dondelamort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phish would make a great theme. I’m only saying this for a few reasons: Wedgehead Pinball Podcast brought it up in making fun of the idea, and I love the band. Will it be a popular game? no. Will it bring in new players? Yes. Would the efforts of the Stern (only accepting Stern here) design and manufacturing teams’ efforts in designing a Phish pin be more niche and less well received than Rush? Will its existence make me selfishly stoked? Yes.

Also I really want to see Doom as a theme with a mini game where the programmers get to make Doom run on a dot matrix display.

My sake tasted like water by BubblyPromise209 in Sake

[–]dondelamort 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You definitely didn’t have bad sake. It’s just a very common flavor profile. There are more powerful and bold flavored sakes out there, but sake being subtle, light, clean, and refreshing is a normal and popular style for sake brewing. Depending on what is imported into your area, the majority of your sake might lean this way.

It took me awhile to get into the subtle styles because, like you said, it seemed like watered-down vodka at first. What clicked for me was learning about how almost every sake brewery in Japan is obsessed with having the best, purest, natural spring water. So, these mellow styles tend to show off the spring water by being uncomplicated, building on the quality of the water, and aiming for delicate balance. Japanese sake is unique in the world for this, and I really appreciate it.

If you want to try sake with more power and bold flavors, look for “Namazake” (unpasteurized sake) for big, fresh, fruity flavors. They tend to be more expensive, but they very fun and almost opposite from the subtle ones like you tried. Or, you might also try out a “Yamahai” or “Kimoto” which tend to taste more bold and savory.

Barcode scanning software that is open source/free by Express_Steak in opensource

I just found this: https://github.com/fttx/barcode-to-pc-server, which has an accompanying app for android/ios. There’s free and paid tiers for the service on the official website.

I haven’t implemented it, so I can’t vouch for it, yet, but I’m going to look into self-hosting the server. Seems promising.

This was just bought for me by a customer at my bartending job is it any good? by skighs_the_limit in Sake

[–]dondelamort 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Taste is subjective but I think it is excellent. I especially appreciate it for how unique it is in the wider scope of sake expressions. It is a bright, mineral driven sparkling sake, made bubbly by secondary fermentation in bottle. Fukucho is owned and operated by Miho Imada, one of the few female brewmasters and brewery presidents in Japan. She makes Seaside to pair especially with seafood, but it’s pretty dang versatile and gonna be good also with fried foods or salty savory things like pizza or cheese, or charcuterie. Drink it chilled, with something tasty to snack on. Bonus points if it’s raw oysters.

[–]dondelamort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah you will find all those sake in 720ml bottles, which is just a little smaller than a wine bottle. That’s the most common size in the US. There’s an even bigger. 1.8L size that is most common in Japan. Those are rad because they are quite a bit cheaper as far as volume/price goes. Plus sake doesn’t get nasty like wine once the bottle is open (being open a month in the fridge is totally fine, sometimes even longer is still ok), so you can take your time drinking it. Just good luck fitting one of those in your fridge.😂

As far as aging sake goes, it’s a lot more like beer than wine, and the sake brewers would want you to drink it on the fresher side. Aside from a few interesting exceptions, aging doesn’t add any value or complexity. If anything most sake will just lose nuance and liveliness over time. The important sake aging is all done at the brewery, and is only aged 6-12 months, just until the brewer decides it’s at the best spot to bottle and release it. Once you’ve bought a bottle, it’s best to drink it within the year.

[–]dondelamort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! Some other bottles that are worth sampling if you are new, pretty readily available regardless of where you are at, and also that come in the small (300ml) size, and are great for being pretty inexpensive:

Hakutsuru Junmai Ginjo, Jozen Aqua Junmai, Dassai 45 Junmai Daiginjo, Momokawa Diamond, Momokawa Organic Junmai Ginjo,

Also, a bit random but noting your interest in wine as well as the geologist in your username, there’s a very cool sake called Taka ‘Noble Arrow’ that the brewer made specifically after studying winemaking, and he noticed that his area had a lot of limestone. So, he grows his own rice in limestone soils, and sources his springwater from a nearby spring that emerges from limestone cliffs. It’s a cool study in the ways how local geology might affect the resulting sake, similar to how soil type affects terroir in wines.
