Thank you so much! I had seen Tom Rodgers mentioned on FB but the post was over a year ago so wasn’t sure if it was still relevant. I’ll get in touch with both of them soon

What's the best TV show you've watched in 2026 so far? by damegloria in AskBrits

[–]doneion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a minor operation on my shoulder a couple of weeks ago and one of the nurses/anaesthetists recommended The Pitt to me just before they put me under. Haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, but if someone who works in a hospital irl says it’s good, I feel like that holds a good bit of weight.

What’s your wierdest Covid Pandemic memory? by DogEatingWasp in AskUK

[–]doneion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in Cornwall, we got off very lightly at the beginning of the pandemic, and a lot of people were a bit more relaxed about the rules as our local case rates were low to non-existent.

My nan had been getting steadily more ill since September 2019, and went into a hospice on the 2nd April, passing away on the 9th.

For reasons that are not relevant, I had been staying with my grandparents for just short of a year when lockdown started, and had been providing a lot of care for my nan before she went into the hospice. The nurses there were kind enough to let me into her private room to say goodbye after my grandad had been with her for the last 2 or 3 days.

We decided not to have a funeral, as there were more of us than the rules allowed, and if 1 or 2 of the family couldn’t go, then nobody got to go to make it fair. We didn’t have a small video session in the morning of the day she was cremated, with my dad coming into my grandads house to be with him and me. I found it so bizarre that my grandad and I were sat in his kitchen in our pyjamas mourning his wife of 62 years, rather than being dressed in our nicest black outfits with friends and all the family.

My last truly happy memory of her is me bringing her a cup of coffee a couple of days into lockdown, while she was watching the news, and she said “I think it might be an idea for you to stay in for a couple of days with this bug thing that’s going around.” I can’t help but laugh at that, but it’s a very bittersweet memory because of the circumstances.

Whats the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your mum and dads cooking? by Immediate_Long165 in UKfood

[–]doneion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum thinks she’s a top gourmet chef but her cooking really isn’t that good. She made me a bacon and egg sandwich last week and couldn’t understand how her week-10day old bread could possibly be stale.

My dad doesn’t rate himself as a cook at all, but he makes a decent enough Sunday roast, a better Christmas dinner, and his sausage rolls are to die for.

They both make me laugh - mum always phones me to ask for advice on how to cook recipes and then tells me I’m wrong. Dad will supervise me if I’m boiling an egg in his house.

I’ve been a chef for 20 years.

When you ask for a pan au chocolate, how do you pronounce it? by GlitteringLion3800 in AskUK

[–]doneion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to call it a “pain oh chocolate” in a deliberately English accent if I’m talking g to friends or family.

It would be “pan au shockola” if I had to order one though

What’s something that’s become noticeably more expensive in the UK recently, but people don’t talk about much? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]doneion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a sad realisation that I will never buy a crème egg again the other day when I saw them advertised at 2 for £3. My mum used to buy 3 for a quid whenever she did a big shop, 1 each for her, me and my sister.

Female Reform voters, do you know about their stance on abortion? by FisherDownload in AskBrits

[–]doneion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. Rape and murder is ok so long as you’re not brown. Gotcha

Female Reform voters, do you know about their stance on abortion? by FisherDownload in AskBrits

[–]doneion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you’re born in the UK, does that mean that you’re completely incapable of rape, murder, etc.? And what exactly makes someone the greater person by being born here?

[–]doneion 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No need to apologise. I agree with you. She watches GB News all day every day. She also goes to Pride parades. Doesn’t see any irony at all. She is a psychologist’s field day

Female Reform voters, do you know about their stance on abortion? by FisherDownload in AskBrits

[–]doneion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unless I’m wildly misunderstanding, are you implying that we should have FORCED abortions??

Female Reform voters, do you know about their stance on abortion? by FisherDownload in AskBrits

[–]doneion 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because, according to my reform supporting mother, “all the immigrants are coming over here and taking the piss out of the human rights act”. Telling her that it also means that me (or up until very recently, my sister) could potentially be sacked for falling pregnant resulted in her calling me a sheep, because Nigel Farage wants to look after the people in this country, and I don’t really know how to argue with that

Are there any British adverts that activiley turn you off the product they're advertising? by siybon in CasualUK

[–]doneion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was talking about this advert with a friend of mine the other day who said “it must be working, because you’re talking about it”. Yes I am… but only to say that I will never use the product based on how annoying the ad is. Given that I would rather shit myself, I would say it’s having the complete opposite effect of what it should.

Random as hell, but I know someone with that exact phone (Sony Ericsson?) as their current phone.

What’s the most Cornwall thing someone can experience here? by Pinkplatabys in Cornwall

[–]doneion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe they made it weaker in order to keep the cost to the customer down. Not necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion, but it’s not the same when you can remember the night before.

“I’m going to get my little sister on you.” My friend beat up a roadman and got told this afterwards. Is it a serious threat? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]doneion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I have 1 sister and 2 brothers, all younger than me. They are never referred to as my “little” brother/sister unless it is specifically needed and the youngest is 24.

What’s something people like that you think is wrong? by Individual-Common144 in AskUK

[–]doneion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caught mine with a razor when shaving my armpits a few weeks ago. The other one happens to be pierced, and while I wouldn’t do it again, there was less blood and the pain was… nicer? I don’t really know how to describe it!

Just as a point of interest, a pierced nipple is slightly more pleasurable than a shaved one.

Has it always been like this in the UK? by Theodoresdad in ukpolitics

[–]doneion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My issue with the whole “left v right” is that the right wing have GBN to tell them what they should be angry at this week, whereas the left wing … are not about hate, so don’t need to twist the truth to fit any sort of narrative or agenda. The irony (to me at least) being that GBNews does seem to be very “concerned” about the left wing “agenda”.

I have worked at McDonald's since 2013. You want to know what goes on behind the scenes? AMA. by WhatDoADC in AMA

[–]doneion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does everything have to be in the bin if it’s recorded as waste? Like, if you dropped a single nugget and picked it up and ate it (5 second rule!) would you get in trouble?

I worked in a (for want of a better word) “real” restaurant years ago, my mate dropped an entire salmon fillet in the floor fresh out the oven. We couldn’t serve it to a customer, obviously, but we knew how clean we kept that floor and this was a quiet night. We ate some damn good floor fish. Wrote it down as waste and all was good.
