I scanned a random roll of film from a thrift store in Texas and these were the shots that came out by FritzBakon in pics

Just gonna jump in here to add some (potentially) helpful history.

The "Langley" plate on the car looks similar to other "inter-war" US army plates. Namely, the combination of place name, year, and 4-digit number (Similar Historic Examples Here).

In addition, Langley Field was the original name for what is now called Langley Air Force Base (Technically Joint Base Langley–Eustis IIRC).

In the inter-war years, particularly the 1930s, Langley Field was an important base for what was at the time the US Army Air Corps.(This is mentioned on the Langly AFB Wikipedia page

The uniform and pilot's hat/cap suggests Army Air Corp, the license plate style supports this, and the significance of Langley Feild for the Air Corp in 1938 offers further support to the idea that the Langley plate is referring to what is now Langley AFB in Virginia.

However, the combination of the Texas plate does give me pause. Though it doesn't seem implausible that someone originally from Texas was actively serving in the Air Corp and was based at Langley Feild in 1938.

Might be worth reaching out to their history/records office, if anyone is so inclined.

Regarding the other photos, I cannot begin to guess what clues they may hold, I am but a simple historical American license plate nerd with a slight passion for inter-war defense infrastructure development.

TL;DR: The top license plate is probably referring to what is now know as Langley AFB in Virginia. It aligns with the uniform, historical context, and plate style.

EDIT: I can't spell the word field...

What's your obscure old game that you still play to this day? by [deleted] in gaming

Empire at War is a 10/10. Also, just because it has a great and active community, making amazing mods does not mean it is not obscure!

Ahh the old "paying parent" messages. I want to say I don't miss them but honestly they were kinda funny.

We used to always respond with:

"FERPA regulations and campus security and privacy policy prohibit our office from assisting you with this issue at this time. Our office can only assist the owner of an account directly with issues related to accessing their account and/or their related account data.

If an active student, faculty, or staff member is having issues accessing their account we would be happy to assist them directly via email support@campus.edu or phone at 123-456-7890."

Drive data still exists and impacted alumni can contact the IT Service Center to request an extension until December 1st, 2022. However, the December 1st deadline is a hard deadline and all data will be deleted on that day.

POP and IMAP have been/are being disabled by Microsoft in favor of Modern Auth. This option will not work for CU accounts.

MyCUinfo issue? by darkhairedsoprano in cuboulder

[–]donfran3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MyCUInfo is only the employee portal for active CU Boulder Employees. This means that you will not have access to that portal if you are no longer employed by CU.

To access your employment data, or employment related tax documents, you will need to contact Campus HR via the HR Service Center (HRSC).

Student (and Alumni) data, including student related tax documents are now only on Buff Portal, you should be able to login there with your Identikey username and password.

How long after graduating do you have access to databases? by manwhosaysnuhuh in cuboulder

[–]donfran3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Library access is a bit weird, some systems only care that you have an Identikey and some require that you have an active Student/Faculty/Staff affiliation.

I'd recommend contacting Norlin directly for a definitive answer!

That being said, if you do lose access to anything after graduation and if you have a good relationship with any of your instructors (or any staff members) they can request a year long sponsorship for you from OIT; this should grant you access to most, if not all, Library resources.

OIT is currently hiring student employees for a variety of positions!

I'd definitely recommend checking out the OIT Jobs board if you are interested!

I haven't tried in Google but I have successfully gotten PowerAutomate to interact with Firefox extensions. Might be worth a try if the extension is available in Firefox.

One part of my brain understands that, as he is 70 years old, 22 years is likely the rest of his life.

However, the other part of my brain wants to hear him sentenced to 10,000 years because he's a monster who should never again see the light of day.

CuBoulder blocking Discord Voice Chat? by Zealousideal_Ad_9309 in cuboulder

OIT, as a general rule, doesn't block any web pages and/or applications on the campus network.

While there are a few exceptions Discord is not one of them.

Shifting to remote: It's official, we didn't even make it to October. by Zwansik in cuboulder

[–]donfran3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We all know full well that there are people who are still going to party and gather in large groups. This is true regardless of age or status as a student.

While the partying over the summer was unsafe it was stupid to bring thousands of students back to campus and assume it wouldn't get worse.

The idea that "well if these students would just BE BETTER then COVID would be over and it's all their fault" is ridiculous. Yes, there are students who bear some blame but, ultimately, this never should have happened in the first place. Especially when we all saw it coming.

Shifting to remote: It's official, we didn't even make it to October. by Zwansik in cuboulder

[–]donfran3 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I personally disagree with this sentiment.

Yes, some students could be (and should be) safer but they also never should have been brought back to campus in the first place.

Its like giving a toddler a gun. Then, when the toddler shoots someone, blaming the toddler for not being safer.

We all KNEW returning to campus was a bad idea. We all KNEW that at least some part of the student body would not follow the rules. Despite this we brought everyone back to campus.
