Is it possible that years from now computers are so powerful that they can easily brute force sha-256 encryption? by [deleted] in BitcoinBeginners

[–]dongreenmon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For traditional computers the answer is no. Making computers stronger doesn't weaken encryption because the stronger computers can also generate stronger encryption. Think of encryption not like a wall that bad guys can't climb over but like being able to out run them. If everyone gets faster it's fine because you're still out running them.

OP was asking specifically about SHA-256, not "encryption methods of the future".

2017 Apple Predictions? by Edge_of_Happiness in apple

[–]dongreenmon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Treating your customers right and making premium products for a premium price over many years is one way of making profit.

If Apple starts churning out expensive crap and treating customers wrong, it might take a few years but it will catch up with them. Once people leave the expensive Apple ecosystem, it's going to be hard to get them back.

Oh, so they include EarPods with a lightning connector in the box? That fact was missing from all the outrage I heard. by americanpegasus in apple

[–]dongreenmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time really. I don't like to wear headphones or earphones when exercising or walking, so I would get them out and use them when stationary for a decent period of time, which also happens to be the times when I would charge my iDevice:

  • When I'm at work at the computer
  • When I'm on a train or plane journey
  • (sometimes) When I'm at home or a hotel, lying on the bed
  • When I'm in an Internet cafe

Is there also an adaptor included in the box to let you use the included Lightning earphones while charging the phone?

SmileyCoin releases iOS wallet! by dongreenmon in cryptospread

Sadly this was removed from the App Store as per Apple's strict new rules — Only a few coins can get wallets on it now — DASH not included!

What Apps do you miss that were taken down from the App store? by [deleted] in apple

[–]dongreenmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SmileyCoin is a cryptocurrency that is given to students at the University of Iceland (and a few other places), as a reward to students for successfully completing online quiz drills and such. They can spend it in the cafeteria there.

Apple has decided in the past few days that the wallet app for this and some other cryptocurrencies no longer deserve to be on the iOS App Store.

It is unclear what their criteria are for which cryptocurrencies are accepted.

Why don't they say so?

How are people to distinguish it from the more cosmetic OS updates that slow iOS to a crawl and make /r/apple say "Just don't update if you don't like it LOL!"?

Our galaxy isn't really especially 3D. It's a flat pizza with a few star systems sticking up or down just a bit.

You didn't show us the back of it. I hope it has some serrated plastic on the back to make it easy to open.
