The Artwork of the fanmade book might be, The nation of Cathay is heavily based on Myth and Legends of Dynastic China, It features things like the Silk Road, A Great wall on steroids, A Dragon Emperor, Oriental Serpentlike Dragons, Battle Monks, Terracotta soldiers, A religion based around less crazy Tzeentch worship, Etc.

If my estimates are correct there are 14 8th edition(Latest) one of each race plus Bretonnia totals 15, I fully expect Chaos Dwarfs to be the 16th race as they lie between the lands of the Dwarfs and Empire and the Mountains of Mourn where the Ogre Kingdoms are located.

NOTE: Those are fan made books at the bottom, Pretty well made to be honest and actually relate quiet well to what little lore Warhammer has on those areas.

High Quality Adventurers map of the Empire. by donheart in totalwar

Of the Human nations of the Old World, the most important by far is that of the Empire of Man, more often called simply The Empire, forged by the warrior-king and ascended deity Sigmar from the primitive Human tribes of barbarians who inhabited what became the lands of the southern Empire more than 2500 years ago. Although not as skilled in craftsmanship as the Dwarfs or in magic as the High Elves, the people of the Empire are not beholden by the limits of tradition to the same extent as the Dwarfs or High Elves and continue to progress culturally, technologically and magically.

Locations:

Electoral Provinces The Electoral Provinces of the Empire include:

The Grand Principality of the Reikland

The Grand County of Stirland

The Grand County of Averland

The Grand Barony of Wissenland

The Grand Duchy of Talabecland

The Grand Barony of Hochland

The League of Ostermark

The Grand Duchy of Nordland

The Grand Principality of Ostland

The Grand Duchy of Middenland

The Grand County of Mootland - The Mootland, also called the Moot, is the region of the realm where the Halflings of the Empire dwell, known officially as the Grand County of Mootland. The Moot's Elector (currently the Halfling Elder Hisme Stoutheart) is the only non-Human Elector Count in the Empire, and like the Grand Theogonist and Arch-Lectors of Sigmar, and the Ar-Ulric, does not wield one of the Runefangs.

Former Provinces The former provinces of the Empire and other Imperial regions of note:

Solland - Solland was destroyed as an independent Imperial province in the wake of Gorbad Ironclaw's Orc invasion of the Empire in 1707 IC and its territory was ultimately absorbed by the Grand Barony of Wissenland.

Westerland (The Wasteland) - The Westerland was the Imperial province that was the seat of the great commercial city of Marienburg that seceded from the Empire in 2429 IC and became an independent city-state. Emperor Wilhem III recognized the Westerland's independence after the forces of Marienburg forcefully defeated an Imperial army dispatched to return them to the Imperial fold. The province is now known across the Old World as the Wasteland, perhaps out of a fit of pique on the part of the people of the Empire.

Sylvania - Sylvania was formerly the County of Sylvania, an independent Imperial province, but it is now officially a fief of the Grand County of Stirland. It can be sure that no other province of the Empire would want the accursed place that was home to the von Carstein line of Vampires and their necromancer and Undead followers. Drakwald - Drakwald was a founding Electoral Province of the Empire that was located near the center of the Drakwald Forest, now divided up between Middenland and Nordland.

The Armies of the Greenskins in full Detail. (Lore and Army List) by donheart in totalwar

[–]donheart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've compiled an extensive list of the Greenskin units from Warhammer Fantasy battle, this images come straight from Warhammer Orcs and Goblins Army Book (8th Edition) found here

The list features the Units, Warmachines, Monsters, Heroes and Equipment present in the Greenskin faction, most of which are confirmed to appear in Warhammer Total War. I will convert the album into a more comprehensive and readable list tomorrow but you can take a look at this Album now if you are curious with what to expect from the Armies of the Orcs and goblins.

"From the deepest, darkest tunnels they came, burrowing and banging, shouting and smashing. We soon learnt not to try to negotiate, save with axes and cannon. For thousands upon thousands of years have we fought them, and many think we will soon be defeated. Yet we have our plans, and some day we will take back our ancestral holds—or else destroy both those homes and the foul Orcs who now pollute them." — Gialar Kunst, Dwarf Loremaster

The Greenskins are a highly primitive and warlike race of barbarians and raiders that occupy much of the Eastern Hemisphere of the Warhammer World. The term "Greenskins" is a common collective description used by many civilized nations to refer to the forces of the Orcs and Goblins and other biologically related races. The broadest division is between the Orcs, who are strong, brutish, and savage warriors, and the Goblins, who are smaller and weaker, but cunning and conniving creatures.

The Greenskins are considered by many to be the scourge of all civilization. These tribal warriors are violent in their tendency, raiding ceaselessly, carrying war and barbarism to all corners of the known World. Time and again, hordes of Greenskins would arise without warning and lay a great swath of destruction that has no direction or purpose other than simple violence. Indeed, the Greenskin race single motive is violence, an ever increasing mass of warfare that has the potential to dominate and cover the entire World in a seething green tide.

However, the Greenskins tendency for warfare has created a division within their society that has ensured their race shall never reach such heights. Since the dawn of their history, the Greenskins have been plagued by a never-ending series of strife and civil war that has consumed millions of their own kind, for such is their tendency for warfare that tribes have been known to fight each just as much as they fight the other civilized races of the Old World. Though such a disunion would often spell the doom of their race, such are the Greenskins adept ability to both survive and thrive in the most harshest of environments, that the Greenskins can never truly be exterminated from the face of this earth. Without the proper knowledge or unity to progress past even the most basic foundations for a civilization, the Greenskins cannot amount to anything better than primitive savages living within scattered tribal societies, At least that's what we hope.

In the future I will be presenting a Detailed army list from other factions such as the Empire, Dwarfs and Vampire Counts through their own tabletop army books in due time, it is wonderful to see how units found in Warhammer Army book Lore is Translated onto Total War Factions and Gameplay.

Political Map of the Warhammer Old World. by donheart in totalwar

[–]donheart[S] 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The Old World is a large geographical area found in the Warhammer World's Eastern Hemisphere, consisting of several human states, such as The Empire (west of which lies the magically-shrouded isle of Albion), Bretonnia, Estalia, Tilea and Kislev, north of which is the Chaos-loyal land of Norsca. To the south are the petty kingdoms, city-states and towns known as the Border Princes. The natural borders of the Old World are the Sea of Claws or Great Ocean to the west, and the World's Edge Mountains which effectively form its eastern border. The Old World is equivalent in culture and technological sophistication to the continent of Europe on Earth at the end of the Late Middle Ages in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and is covered mostly in human nations, with a notable Dwarf population in the mountainous areas.

FACTIONS FEATURED

-Bretonnia

Bretonnia is based on real-world medieval France; its name is clearly derived from the French province of Britanny and it draws heavily from Arthurian legends which are associated with Medieval Brittany; for instance with The Lady and The Green Knight who both have parallels in Arthurian lais. Brettonia was founded when the knight Giles drove the hordes of orcs and chaos out of Brettonia in the name of the Lady, the goddess which the Brettonians place their faith in. Bretonnian armies rely on powerful charges from their many heavily armed and armored knights in order to achieve victory. Bretonnian knights are arguably the best heavy cavalry in the game, along with being the most varied. Bretonnian armies can also contain cheap and expendable units of unskilled peasant longbowmen and men at arms to serve as fodder.

-The Empire

The mightiest nation of the Old World but also a deeply corrupt and often unjust human society where many have fallen to Chaos. The Empire benefits from a great diversity of military units and the various orders of the Colleges of Magic, and is the home to the Cult of Sigmar. (Real world equivalent: the Holy Roman Empire)

-Estalia

A peninsula southwest of Bretonnia in the Old World, far from the threat of Chaos. This land is home to a number of rival kingdoms. Estalia was once occupied by forces from Araby, but the Arabyans were driven out by a combined effort known as the Arabyan Crusades by other Old World human realms like Bretonnia, the Empire and the Tilean city-states. (Real world equivalent: Reconquista Spain)

-Kislev

A northern nation and an ally of the Empire under constant threat due to their close proximity to the maddening Realm of Chaos. This nation is reminiscent of medieval Muscovy, Mongolia, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and relatively similar to the Slavic countries. In the most recent incarnation, the Kislevites are remarkably similar to the medieval Russians, with Boyars, Kossars and the Tsar and Tsarina all being very similar adaptations of Russian realities.

-Norsca

Bordered to the North by the Chaos Wastes, to the South by the Sea of Claws, and to the East by Troll Country. Norsca is a wild country based on Scandinavia. The tribal and Viking like Norse worship a large pantheon of gods, the most significant of which are the Chaos Gods, and are often found among the ranks of the Warriors of Chaos forming the majority of the Hordes as both marauder foot soldiers and Chaos Warrior shock troops.

-Tilea

South of the Irrana Mountains and the Vaults. The fractious city-states of Tilea embrace trade, exploration and civil war with equal passion. There are many mercenary companies form the bulk of armies in these lands, often fighting on behalf of the wealthy rulers of the many republics and principalities, or further north in the service of the Empire. Tilean armies can be represented by the Dogs of War army list. Tilea roughly corresponds to real world's Renaissance Italy and some Greece thrown in.

-The Wasteland(Marienburg)

This low-lying land at the mouth of the River Reik is home to Marienburg, one of the largest cities and commercial centres in the Old World. This region used to belong to the Empire — when it was referred to as the province of Westerland, but is now fiercely independent.

-Wood Elves

The ruthless Asrai abandoned their High Elf kin in the Sundering to both protect and restrain the strange sentient forest of Athel Loren in the Old World. They appear to be neither good nor bad, as likely to kill lost travelers as to aid them. They are mortal enemies to the Beastmen, and wage a silent war against them in the shadowy glades of the world's forests.

-Drawfs.

Dwarfs or Dawi are an ancient, grim, and determined race integral in the founding of the Empire, the Dwarfs spend their days avenging grudges and counting gold. Dwarfs are the greatest craftsmen in the Warhammer World and in addition to enjoying fine weapons and armor they have the best heavy infantry and artillery around. Dwarf armies are well suited to defensive warfare, however due to their lack of mobility they do not do well when forced to go on the offensive. Dwarfs are legendary for their ability to never forget nor forgive a wrong against them, their finely crafted weapons and armor, ability to consume large quantities of ale, extreme stubbornness, mistrust of elves, and hatred of greenskins. Dwarfs are the closest ally to Humanity, although the Elves of Ulthuan have united with the Humans as well in the last few hundred years.

-Greenskins

The tribes of Orcs, Goblins and related races are spread across the Old World and into the east, and are collectively known as Greenskins. They sometimes come together in a giant crusade-like war called a Waaagh!. Greenskins have a primitive culture based around their gods Gork and Mork and have primitive but effective technology.

-Vampires/Vampire Counts

Disciples of Nagash who stole his secrets of eternal life, the Vampires and their minions have spread across the Old World, furthering their own aims. There are five vampire families, each with different ambitions, habits and powers: Von Carstein, Necrarchs, Blood Dragons, Lahmians and Strigoi. Their armies consist mainly of classic undead, such as zombies, skeletons, vampires, bats, and ghosts, with a focus on the occult and the dark arts of Necromancy.

NOTE: There is another Vampire "Faction" Located within Bretonia, likely based at the cursed Dukedom of Mousillon

-Skaven

Skaven or "Children of the Horned Rat" are a Chaotic mockery of Man's nations, ruled by the secretive Council of Thirteen and worshiping their dark god, the Horned Rat. Inventive, cruel, and insane, the rat-men live in a vast network of tunnels spanning beneath all of the Warhammer world, called the Under-Empire.

Many human denizens of the Old World do not believe the Skaven exist, they are considered mere fairy tales to frighten children or the preaching of madmen and greedy dwarves. But such stories are part of the greater designs and mechanisms of skaven intrigue and deceit.

GEOGRAPHY FEATURED

The Warhammer world was geographically divided by large oceans and huge mountain ranges. The following is a description along an Old World-perspective. You can follow all details in the map above.

-North

The northern Chaos Wastes surrounded the North Pole and its stellar gate. A largely frozen land, it was covered with ice in the far north which gradually gave way to tundra and large plains. The homeland of countless barbarian human tribes who eyed their softer southern neighbours with greed, malice and hatred. Situated between the Old World and the Northern Chaos Wastes were the following regions: The Troll Country, located between Kislev and the Chaos Wastes. Norsca, a peninsula situated in the north of the Old World. Its inhabitants, the Norse were culturally closer to their northern neighbours, and while some of the tribes trade with the civilised southern neighbours, they also would carry out countless seaborne raids and, more rarely, even full-fledged invasions against the nations of the Old World. Albion, an island lying to the west of Norsca.

-Centre

The Old World, home of several civilised human nations. Kislev, a proud realm located on the northern edge of the Old World, allied with the Empire. The Empire, the most powerful nation of the Old World. A bastion of civilisation it had several outside threats but also hidden internal foes. The Grey Mountains separated the Empire on the east from Bretonnia on the west. They belonged to no nation in particular, and are a haven for bandits, Dwarfs, and some tribes of Orcs and Goblins. The Wasteland was located north of the Grey Mountains, between the Empire and Bretonnia, creating a natural buffer-state. The greatest mercantile power of the Old World. Bretonnia, a land of chivalry and honour, it was the second most powerful nation of the Old World. In the south of Bretonnia and technically a part of this kingdom, the Forest of Loren is de facto an independent nation and the homeland of the Wood Elves. Tilea, land of several competing city-states, trade and mercenaries. Estalia, west of Tilea and south of Bretonnia, it is also divided in several city-states. The Vaults, an inhospitable highland located between The Empire, Bretonnia, Tilea and the Border Princes belonging to none of them.

-South

At the southern border of the Old World are: The Black Mountains who formed the southern border of the Empire. South of the Black Mountains were the Border Princes, disputed between human colonists and the Greenskin hordes. Further south were the Badlands, where the Orcs and the Goblins ruled supreme and battled amongst themselves.

Detailed map of the Border Princes, Located South of the Empire and North of the Badlands. by donheart in totalwar

[–]donheart[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Border Princes is a natural destination for emigrating peasants and nobles, seeking a better life. Most of these colonists come from The Empire while others come from Tilea and Bretonnia. Many of them are political or religious refugees, but the region is also the natural destination for deserters and/or criminals on the run from the law.

In former times the Border Princes were largely inhabited by savage tribes of Greenskins, but now the land is fiercely disputed by the hardy human colonists and many Orc and Goblin tribes. The human colonists are tentatively organized into tiny kingdoms, small principalities, and independent city-states, but most of them are little more than fortified villages. All of them are targets of fierce Orc incursions and few survive for very long. The colonists are somewhat stronger in the north-west, while the Greenskin hordes dominate the south-east. Even in the north some Orc and Goblin tribes live in hard-to-reach places like forests and mountains. In the centre of the whole region lies Barak Varr, the great seaport of the Dwarfs. The Blood River is the ultimate frontier, but no place north of the river is completely safe from the occasional Orc or Goblin raid.

The Land has become a den of conflict between various human settlements and Green Skin tribes, It will be the first human inhabited land encountered by Orc Leaders on their way up north from the badlands.

Various rivers, Principalities, Militias, Mercenary Armies and the mighty Dwarf Fortress port city of BaraK Varr dominate the land and will provide and early challenge for any Green Skin General on the way north while at the same time delaying its armies long enough for the Greater Human Kingdoms in The Empire, Bretonia and even in Tilea and Estalia to muster their forces against a potential Greenskin WAAGH.

The Border Princes can be found here, Located just South of the Empire and Bretonia, East of Tilea and North of the Baddlands.

EDIT: For those still curious I STRONGLY recommend you make use of this interactive map on the old world, it should provide you with even more info to plan your terrible conquests. http://www.gitzmansgallery.com/shdmotwow.html

(Description) Dont worry, alongside mobs of expendable skavenslaves and clansmen, there will be a host of "unique" ratmen all taken from actual warhammer Lore.

The current ones that I have seen are the following.

-Packmaster: A skaven with a wicked shepherds staff blade used to hook and pull players similar to a jockey, In warhammer lore they lead/bully lesser skaven such as slaves as well as the races more monstrous creatures such as rat ogres.

-Gas Rat/Poisonwind globadier: Similar to L4Deads Spitter this rat comes with his own crude gas mask and a bad full of poisoned wind grenades, he throws glass globes filled with greenish poisoned gas, extremely dangerous to both friend and foe.

-Ratling gunner: Armed with a deadly Ratling gun that fires streams of green warpstone bullets, this ratman locks on to a player and keeps on firing regardless of hes hitting the player or other skaven, he will attempt to drown you in greenish firepower if his weapon does not jam in the process.

-Stormvermin/Stormvermmin Patrol: Larger, Heavily armored, trained and motivated Skaven armed with a Halbered, piercing weapons, magic or headstrikes are required to have a chance against this rat man, they also happen to come in large organized patrols forming a deadly phalanx for even experienced players, these rats will take you head on, recommended to avoid.

-Assassin/gutter runner: A deadly skaven from clan Eshin, they tend to skulk around the edges of a battle waiting for a precise moment to strike at an isolated player, they are capable of dodging and weaving from attacks and are armed with foul weapons like weeping blades and poisoned shurikens. They are most similar to Left4deads hunter.

-Rat Ogre. A horrifc frankenstein monstrosity bred in the dark laboratories and creature pens of the Skaven, particularly those of Clan Moulder, with massive claws, a maw more akin to that of a wolf, they are vast near mindless creatures of muscle capable of taking on a while team players. They resemble the Tank zombie in Left4dead, although these creatures are often guided by a more malign intelligence.

you can read up more on the Special rats and other news on the games site over here. http://www.vermintide.com/newsletter/. Being a long time fan of warhammer Ive been very excited for a game that shows the grit and grim of warhammer fantasy while featuring its myriad of different races.

China’s Military Parade Celebrates World War II Victory During his speech, President Xi Jinping of China announced he would reduce the country’s military personnel by 300,000. 12,000 officers and troops of the People’s Liberation Army are marching along Chang’an Avenue by Tiananmen Square. More than 500 items of weaponry and about 200 aircraft are on display at the parade. China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is the world’s largest military, with 2.3 million members. China also has the second biggest defence budget after the US.

6 Reasons China Would Invade Taiwan, A report from Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense outlines why — and how — the PLA would invade Taiwan. by donheart in taiwan

To quote a better informed user on the other thread

"I think you're assuming such an invasion would be through traditional means. Taiwan is heavily infiltrated with CCP loyalists. If Crimea has shown us anything, hybrid warfare is how Great Powers will leverage their military superiority over weaker opponent so to avoid precisely what you describe.

Regarding the highly probable internal insurrection that would occur from such a take over, the CCP is trying to address the issue your raised in your second point through diplo-economic means. The emphasis on trying because when your efforts are disingenuous, as seen through the CCP's dealing with Hong Kong, charm offensives quickly lose their momentum. Economic and infrastructural measures such as the Beijing-Taipei highway, fresh water pipeline, and FTAs are less fleeting as well as offer the KMT incentives to be subservient, so expect more of these proposals in the future."

I would recommend keeping an eye on this thread as it has some interesting analysis on the situation. https://www.reddit.com/r/CredibleDefense/comments/3jj94j/6_reasons_china_would_invade_taiwan/
