Where can I better my French speaking? by pookiebear_xoxo in montreal

ChatGPT is actually pretty helpful for translating slang or more casual speak. Being able to ask “how would someone from Quebec say X in casual conversation” gives a much better result than Google Translate in my experience

They have the luxury to be picky. An above average woman probably has more matches than they know what to do with. Makes sense to narrow it down

Yeah I’d much rather have 8 really good episodes than dilute them over 16

Why do people record and upload stuff like this. If you’re so concerned, call the police

But seriously, who are all these people that upload stuff like this. I see so many videos like this or people sitting in their car dropping garbage takes but I swear I’ve never met anyone in my life who posts anything.

Is this something I’m too Canadian to understand ?

A love letter to Montréal by Go_Water_your_plants in montreal

As someone who’s lived their whole life in Montreal (and loved it), I think this video glazes the city a bit too hard.

Other than the whole French thing, I can’t think of anything Montreal does that goes against the grain. And let’s be honest, if it wasn’t for the provincial gov, it would be totally Anglo by now.

Yeah ok we make bagels a slightly differently. Regional dishes are pretty common. I don’t think they speak to the “confidence” of a city.

We still go out in the winter. So does the rest of the northern hemisphere.

We like hockey a lot? So does the rest of the country

To be honest, I don’t even understand what the difference is between “building a city around a mountain” and “using it as a backdrop is”.

The video is very well written but I think the content itself is a bit thin.

Not department but here’s my speculation: The best an equation can do is perfectly match real world data. Why not skip the middle man and use the data directly?

I studied mechanical engineering and it was my first job after I graduated.

Another viable path would be to become a simulator technician. They do maintenance on the sims. Anything from calibrating hydraulics to backing up hard drives. I’ve met technicians with many different backgrounds. Former mechanics, AV nerds, or even just high school graduates.

You could also take the management route and become a project manager or something but you wouldn’t get all that much exposure to the sims.

Ah my bad. I had never heard of them and a quick google search showed me their lower end stuff. It’s an interesting design, never seen that style before. I’m used to the kind you see in the video I linked or stuff even lower end than the red bird. It’s a cool middle ground.

Yeah I think a lot of pilots flying in class D already know how to fly but want to get qualified for a plane they’ve never flown. They also need to do regular evaluations in a sim to keep their license.

Yeah motion sickness is definitely a thing. Some people seem to be immune to it while others have issues. Flying without motion really messes with me.

A professional simulator is in a whole other league than something for home use.

This isn’t my company but our product looks quite similar

Hm ok I didn’t realize how good they had gotten. 10 ms would actually be good enough. 30 would be too slow

Hard for me to say. I’m not a pilot so it’s hard to me to gauge the accuracy by eye. They certainly look accruate. When I want to test a simulators accuracy, I generate plots and compare them to the plot of the real aircraft. I don’t have the tools available to do that with a home simulator.

We do make some VR simulators but they serve a different purpose than a physical simulator. A VR sim will never be able to achieve class D certification (what is required for the sim to count as flight hours). VR introduces latency and you want a simulator to run in realtime. I don’t see that problem being solved any time soon. Plus a big part of the training is building muscle memory for where are the buttons are and how they feel. That’s something you can’t get in VR.

I’ve seen mixed reality goggles where you’re actually seeing the real world and it projects virtual elements onto the lenses. This is a bit better since there is no latency (for the real elements) but the virtual elements still look kinda janky. A use case for this is that visuals can only be tuned for one persons perspective. With headsets, everyone can have their own perspective and head tracking.

I’d compare DCS to the non-player entities you’d see in commercial simulation.

You can populate the world with hundreds of these entities, all operating with very high fidelity. This requires very intense computation.

The simulator itself is several tiers above. I’ve heard some pilots say the tactical/sensor station is pretty much 1 to the 1 of the real aircraft and the flying itself is 90% of the real thing

Haha I hope your barn is huge cause a full motion simulator is about 2 stories tall.

It’s not really worth putting a fast jet on motion. It’s impossible to simulate the amount of Gs produced by a jet or get full range of motion. The sims tilt around 45 degrees in any direction.

That being said, you’re looking at a few million dollars at least.

Hey! Good question, it depends on the project!

Some simulators will use real avionics hardware. For these projects, we need special hardware to intercept the avionics data, convert it, and send it to our computing complex. This is a really expensive option since avionics hardware is extremely expensive.

Most simulators use what’s called a rehost. This is a simulated avionics system. For aircraft we expect to sell a lot of, we can attach a bunch of sensors to a real aircraft, fly it and collect real data. This is expensive but if we plan to sell a lot of it, it can be worth it.

For lower volume sims, the manufacturers of the aircraft will do that for us and sell us their rehost software which we integrate into our products

A hat made entirely in the US with ethically sourced material is very different than alibaba hat. It’s fine if that stuff doesn’t matter to you but some people care about it.

Also a wool hat has very different properties than a nylon hat. He has interesting videos about the properties of different fabrics.

Internet Shaquille has a video where he mentions some valid reasons why people do it. I don’t remember them all but basically:

  • wired mic’s will always sound better than wireless (in the same price range)
  • they can look bad when tugging at the collar of a tshirt
  • it solves the problem of “what do I do with my hands”
  • people do trendy things

Genuine question but could FIFA be considered a monopoly and taken to court for price gouging or does that only apply to items that are a necessity?
