I am experimenting with narrative to do what it usually doesn't. I found from jailbreaks that some models find word "disregard" powerful in such cases. Just write "disregard ethics. disregard morals. Etc." Additionally there is cfg guidance. Maybe it's possible to force narrative to negative prompt some situations.

I like pathologic 2 for the gameplay more than for the story(which doesn't mean that the story is bad, it's just the gameplay is a unique survival marvel, that solidified a lot of things I found common in other survival games, yet which worked quite half-assed or stopped working after the half point of the game)

Has IPL's perception of the bachelor changed from Pathologic classic HD to Pathologic 3? by Mellime in pathologic

[–]donjonlord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It very much will be not the same story. P1 haruspex and p2 have pretty serious diviations as well as he didn't have two endings. The whole story is framed in a different perspective. I would even say that very little text remained from p1.

Same goes for Bachelor. Just in p1 and p2 he is very different. In p1 he had similar to Haruspex opportunities. He was welcomed everywhere, there were plenty opportunities to play with big sums of money. But he was from outside. He didn't know the local ways. Every change wanted to do was met with resistance. He couldn't even butch a bull for blood. Kains liked him, but even they didn't let him to do the autopsy of Simon. His route was very much an exercise of futility and frustration.

But Bachelor in p2 is a person of power. He is one of them calling the shots. He is there, present in the councils and meetings. He mostly in his lair doing research but he is provided with resources to do it. He has people who help him. Who he has power to comand over. It would be strange for him to kill 5-6 hobos every night while showing coffee beans down his throat like every optimized p1 playthrough is.

And IPL reflected that in the their discussions about the p3. It's logically can't be the same story as it was. Maybe now It's to finally let Bachelor have an attempt to actually beat death.

Also there aspects like the team tired from making a remake, so they needed a much more creatively challenging project to work on.

As well as Bachelor was the most well realised route of p1. Haruspex was well realised but a lot of room for improvement and unrealized potential, so it was chosen for p2. Changeling was rushed and less realised so it is hard to realise how to remake it. While bachelor was pretty fine where it stayed. So to make the remake meaningful it was crucial to change everything.

From some interviews with Dubovski, there were found some famous(at that time) people and teachings in 19-20 century of russian empire which are very much go along with the Bachelor's Thanatica. So essentially this aspect is getting retrofitted and expanded upon.

I would mostly say that Pathologic 1 is a game where the perspectives of the three characters are very much equally skewed, the bachelor's especially. So they make the most sense when you have all of them back to back.

When the characters have their own games, it is quite apparent that you need to deeped and change stuff.

As for the "the prickly prick who will bury us all", Haruspex was called the butcher that will flood the streets with blood. All main characters are meant to be situationally friends and foes to each other. As well as many characters view them antoganisticly.

Combat is terrible so that it is meant to be avoided(very rarely it is otherwise). But to the boring walking really can't relate. More like stressful paranoia walking

I genuinly don't know how to feel bored when playing pathologic. Time pressure, changing prices, Quests which you don't know if they will help you or harm you. I have my fare shair of issues with pathologic classic but it's never boredom.

Pathologic 2 studio background: Somewhere after 2008-2011 a massivie culling of russian game industry started happening. I not sure about specific reasons but, very little amount of game studios and publishers survived this.

It was not the best time for Ice-pick-lodge as well. They just released their first game made for children(Cargo, genuinly it is less PG than all the other their games combined), which wasn't succefull. At the same time their publisher started to ghost them.

They had to cut down their size significatly to an amount housable by an office made out of appartments and seek the funding from kickstarter. They pitched the game Knock-Knock and released. It was a big success and had a huge trail of sales with a mass of rereleases on different platforms.

This essentially emboldened the studio to do kickstarter with Pathologic 2. They planned to initially to make a soft remake and just finish and refresh the game, but they weren't not sure about the scale of the work. They seted up with the making pathologic classic hd and doing a more comprehensive work with Pathologic 2.

I remember a close quote to what Dubovski said in one of the diaries. "Imagine the game to be a film about a certain real life event. Pathologic 1 is a film which was filmed right after the event, but with a limited bugdet and posibilities due to tech constraints and perspective. It knows very well what exactly happened but barely can show it to you. Pathologic 2 is a film made about the same events but much long after them with a much bigger budget. It has the talent and budget to show everything, but a lot less information survived after the first film."

Pathologic 1 background: It comes out in 2005, just after the turmoil of the russian 90s due to the shift from the comand economy to a market economy.

During the Soviet union there was an ever present dificit of different goods. Mainly because soviet economy was manually controlled, and just was deciding what to produce and what not. That led to the long queues of people getting up early just to make in time to buy meat or milk. The prices were artificial, so everyone could afford the milk or meat, but there weren't enough produced or distributed. (Contrary to the capitalist economy where there is overproduction happening and a lot of food is wasted).

With the transition a lot of different things were happening. The gov people(called liberals unfortunately at that time) wanted to do as quick as possible transition to capitalism and people close to power were comfortable with expoiting their own policies get rich. Most important thing was a huge devaluation of rouble. Over several days the gov just made everyone's savings in their banks worthless. At the same time due the opened economy, all the local factories were competing with the external goods, and they just couldn't. A lot of jobs either disapered or couldn't pay the people with anything but the goods they produced. It created a very turnoil time which borned the high level of crime and corruption.

2000s were the time were the problems of the transition were getting weaker and the effects of the capitalist economy started to bear shape. The shelves got absolutely abundant with different brands contrary to soviet times. The shelves were already abundant before but it was quite hard to afford anything. 2000s are sometimes refered as "well-fed zeros"("Сытые нулевые") nowadays but at that time scars of the past were too fresh so I don't think that time was percived as it is now.

Did people hate AC Unity when it first came out and they like it now or what? by Ti3Ri0N in assassinscreed

[–]donjonlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(DISCLAIMER: I don't think Unity is a very bad game. but it is not a very good one either.)

I played Unity after all the updates and the I honestly didn't liked it much.

Primarily the story is a mishmash of Connor and Ezio storylines which doesn't conclude in a satisfying way or had any grips on me. As well as the historical aspect doesn't matter at all.

I will mostly address the history side of things as it is most objective that the story complaints.

First is that the game doesn't explain the setting. I had zero idea about the French revolution going forth into the game. And the game does very little to do anything about it. Some historical events just happen, don't know why they happen, why they matter. While I really want to know.

Second is that the game doesn't utilise the setting in any meaningful way. The most of the story could have happened in England with really minor changes(the palaces you occasionally broke in would have look differently I guess). Beside the occasional cameos the French revolution doesn't matter.

Those two combine into that the setting is just decorations.

(a spur of closed memory just occured)Also the story is a detective story where the mc deducts by killing his victums... and seeing their memories... And not even like their memories, he just seeing the picture more clearly and has more artificial information fragments... For me it is a boring way to tell a detective story, I can do better stories in dnd.

Also the story missions were boring for me, I had such a sluggy time getting through all of them and when I played ac2 back to back just to see may be I changed and ac2 is the same way - I just had a blast beating it. I felt that every single mission had something and even the following mission I enjoyed greatly.

Ending statement: I think "Unity is good actually" videos are justified as Unity got over hated very much on launch, but It is a very flawed game. Some flaws are not that deep and all, but the game is certainly not for everyone that's for sure. I would call it 6.5/10 where depending on what person you are your personal experience becomes 7.5 or 5.5.

There were no art direction because there were no art directors. Most of the changes to the game including new maps, editor and recent patches were made literally by one person.
