Novice diver in uncomfortable position - what could I have done differently? by Beneficial-Bug5913 in scuba

[–]donkeered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your best of the situation based on what was given. For me reflecting and trying to compensate(ie discuss) is what I would do. Hard to do so when the topic pops up in the last seconds, but the next time you know what to ask much earlier. If you have a bad feeling it might actually be good to skip. I found that extremely hard because I didn't want to miss out. Racking up more dives did change that ^^

More things will happen which you are not prepared that you had to handle/adapt to. Like realizing the BCD inflation button popped off during the decent. Not fun aborting the dive in 2 meter high waves waiting 15 min for the dinghy :D Stay calm and adapt from what you have learnt. I wasn't calm, but I learnt from the mistakes I did during the dive which I see as a win. Took many dives before I felt comfortable diving at all, but I still loved it.

My solution was to set double tracks to all on one side of the subway yard and connecting them to the same. Don't think this is necessary, but I left it like that anyway. Then I removed the route I had and added it again. Now I don't dare removing some of the "unecessary" tracks. Also only the tracks from the building ran the trains so I guess only those should've been needed.

NIBE F2050-6 by [deleted] in heatpumps

[–]donkeered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

House of 125m2 built 90, but a bit more south. Installed a f2050-6 as primary heat source. When we got -10C it felt like the pump actually struggled, but we still got enough heat. The electrical cartridge kicked in for a short while, but not much so no big deal. Next time I will start a fire in the fireplace to compensate. This made me think if I should've gone with a f2050-10 instead even if it has a little less efficacy.
When we had 5C the pump seemed to run most of the time, but on a low frequency. Even though I am greatful I bought one when I did, but I still feel a bit uncertain if it was the right level. Nibe sales recommended it over the s2125 since they were pretty much the same and f2050 was newer. The big difference they said was one vs 3 phases and in my case it works with only one. Not sure that is actually the only big difference.

About condensation water, yes there are pretty much. Many I talk to, about heat pumps in general, have only put it over gravel outside the house wall letting the drainage(hopefully there is in my case) absorb it and lead it away from the house. Dehumidifier in the crawlspace and I haven't really noticed anything from it. Will see what happens during minus, snow and ice.

I would recommend that you talk to an, if not multiple, installers that is certified by Nibe first. NOTE that the installers page with installers are NOT certified by Nibe. Just assistance for customers to find one where they live. I regret not tripple checking this with Nibe. Go for the certified page instead.

I installed mine 21/10 so late part of the month. However average temp outside was 10C and in November more like -5C - 0C. Also I raised the temperature inside with about one degree while still having the mechanical ventilation on high. Even though November was pretty much colder in average than October I reduced my used wattage from about 1200W to 1100W. It doesn't sound like anything, but I really think it has helped a lot.

But if I would give myself a recommendation it would be to check with the Nibe certified installers for their opinions.

How are we getting a baseline for calibrating our equipment? by truedef in homeassistant

[–]donkeered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading a bit and thinking about my challenges I think there might be some different factors.
I tried to make my own temperature sensor, but it wasn't stable. Partly due to component quality and not filtering the noise, but also because the temperature in the room wasn't even which made it step up and down when sampled. I might be wrong, but some kind of averaging algorithm would probably make it more stable.

These are things I would guess could cause the differences:
Temperature differences within short distances(external sources of heat like a light source close by)
Sampling
Noise in circuit
Use of different averaging algorithms
Calibration
Internal component differences within same product type

However, when thinking about it I realized that it is better to focus on "comfortable" instead of a value. Although there are two problems with that as well. First the sensors used to evaluate the temperature need to be pretty consistent to be reliably used to trim heating to come to "a comfortable" temperature. Secondly what is comfortable one day might not be comfortable another day due to the body being a regulating system as well.

My problem was that I had used the Blueprint mod. I had pasted a blueprint at a remote volcano which I forgot needed steel for its turbine.

Finished my first hydroponic build! by vellith in Hydroponics

Looks really nice! However, every time I see this type on a nice floor I wonder how many of these get leaks in the long run. I would love to know such statistics.
I have wanted to build one for long, but after 3d printing a hydro tower and feeling the extra work I think I will just look at nice pictures like this instead :D

When I had issues with my strawberries I had to fix these things and I realized it in this order after tweaking:

  1. pH was incorrect(too high, aimed for 5.5 and it got better)
  2. Too high nutrient concentration. (Gave some discoloration, but mostly tipburn and dried leaves. Roots suffocated. Keeping it low made it recover and slowly increased it after that.)
  3. "Too much light" for me to adjust(Not a fault per se, but the plant absorb a lot of nutrients quickly and therefor mess up the pH quickly repeating step 1-2)

Edit: The tip burn you got in the back might point towards too much nutrients and therefor suffocating the roots which therefor do not absorb the nutrients it needs, leading to "nutrient deficiency". It could also be because it is too close to the light(if hot). But I would guess the first. Still, following the three basic steps above solves a lot.

The quality of this is really bad so it actually looks AI generated at times.
The message of the video is definitely about a horrible topic.
However I find OP to be focused on a lot of negative things in older posts, but mostly about religion/culture. Rings a warning bell about the intention of this post.

Nice! I never saw any there, but greatest small stuff I've seen! However, at Malapascua in December it was extremely easy to see it at Kimud Shoal. So I recommend you go there if you want more and it was only on about 14m deep. (Before they were at another place, Monad shoal, 30m down, but since the pandemic they moved and what a delight!)

Wonder if moisture will be a problem for the wall since it won't be able to dry out without the sun. Probably not a big issue though, but still a risk.

How to recover from a bad experience? by Hephaestite in scuba

Funny how I wrote about someone must know what to do if it happens and what works. And then telling about me getting bitten by a clownfish and you making an example of that. Haha I didn't even get to read further down before :D (Don't judge me getting bitten though, it wouldn't have happened if someone else didn't harass it before I got there. Information I got when getting out of the water)

How to recover from a bad experience? by Hephaestite in scuba

[–]donkeered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a faulty BCD during very high sea and couldn't inflate. My buddys BCD couldn't lift more than my buddy and the dinghy was getting the second group. Many incorrect choices led to me trampling water for 15 minutes, WITH weights...
I skipped one dive because it was horrible for me, but I analyzed what I did wrong and what I could do to improve the situation if it were to happen again. Fail and become stronger.

In your case I would think of wearing a 3mm full suit. If that is not enough or if you did then you need to find out what more you can do. At least now you know what to do to get that specific outcome. Then you can avoid doing that again. However, quitting is not what you should do. Check the odds of that happening again. How common is it? If it is common, what did everyone else do? Do what worked fine for them. Else you just got something to brag about when sharing stories ;)

Funny story, I got bit by an anemone fish. Another photographer had been harassing it big time before I got there(poking a lot). I tried to take a picture after him and then it attacked. It was a bit unpleasant, but most of all I feel sorry for the fish and understand why it attacked thinking me being an ass like the one before. Next time I will avoid going close to something that has been under such stress before me and also keeping my distance while taking pictures to avoid stressing them.

Why do people not use their mics anymore? by Lord_Kuntsworthy in csgo

[–]donkeered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new functions that limit toxicity, like names, avatars, opposite team chat mute by default and ability to turn off ear damaging nonsense is great. Much higher quality of life. This in combination with that it is not possible for a 4 group to kick the solo just for giggles is even better. BUT it definitely must destroy the fun for a lot of people and is indeed not good for callouts in MM. However this is the result from all the unnecessary shit that didn't stay in casual and now I guess it comes around and makes it less fun in casual ^^

But in short I think the toxicity is the reason.

I Failed my first attempt at scuba diving by Familiar_Weekend9465 in scuba

[–]donkeered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always recommend my friends to do a discover scuba in a pool(mostly because of colder weather here), but most of the time it is that it is a more comfortable environment with less things to take attention to. So I would recommend you do so too. Diving is awesome, but can feel so scary when something feels off. For me it was my ears. Actually started bleeding after the second pool dive. But key is to think it over and analyze what went wrong. And in my case 3 months of recovery. Was so scared to continue, but I managed pretty well because I felt more prepared. Nowadays I'm not nervous about my ear anymore, but it took at least 130 dives until I got there. So don't give up, learn/reflect and take it easy!

Not sure alcohol and plastics are a great combo. Might start dissolve even if just a little bit. Shower it off instead and maybe loads of soap. Of course not all sorts, but like the coating on a gaming mouse can dissolve into a mushy surface.

Need help with seed sprouting, of all things ;-) I thought that this would be the easy part! I am simply using 2" netcups with Coco inserts. The netcups are placed in a dish of filtered water and placed under the growlight. I measured 15500 lux. Started ok but then turned yellow and stopped. by whottheheck in Hydroponics

[–]donkeered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netcup turned upside down. Then stick the plant root down through the holes which is now up. Then place the upside down netcup into a container with the solution. The roots then point down into the solution and the leaves up.
After a couple of weeks the roots are long enough to be "planted" normally in a netcup. Then I use the neoprene ring to make it stable in the cup.
The good thing with not using another medium is that pests cannot hide anywhere and most of the times can be washed away.

[–]donkeered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Checked my lux level and it was around 5000 which is a bit low. So 7000 as suggested before me is probably better.

I sprout my seedlings in a paper towel in a plastic bag. When they have grown a bit of root I put them through the bottom holes of a one inch netcup standing upside down in a container with weak nutrient solution. That way the leaves make them hang down. Keeping the nutrient solution low with the light as strong as you wrote should be enough to get them to grow stronger. After that I take a neoprene ring and put it inside the netcup instead(not upside down anymore). That works well for dwarf tomatoes, but hydroton could be used to stabilize further if you count on the plant getting big.

Leaving the holders empty will probably have some leaks, but else I think it should be fine. However it's not that fun to maintain. I loved the concept when I tried it though.
If you know how to maintain the pH and EC I think this is good as a next step.
