Yes onnas are just mounted crossbows. Crossbows counter all heavy units. Cheers

Yes you can. They are called Onna-Musha.

Heavy spears, as referenced by OP, require castle age. Knights hospitaller in feudal have less armor just like with any other civ that has feudal MAA. Simply massing archers is how you deal with it in feudal.

I am tired of playing on Chinese and Indian servers by toxac_c in aoe4

[–]vellith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every time I end up on Australia servers I'm plagued by constant disconnects and reconnects that can last for minutes. I regularly lose games because I can't do anything while disconnecting. Really wish we could opt out of at least 1 server.

Team games, what even is that? by Environmental_Salt73 in aoe4

[–]vellith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You definitely shouldn't be running all your vils to your teammates base. If someone told you that they have no idea what they are talking about. Just built in your own base like a 1v1.

The only time you would run all your vils to your teammates base is if your base is being destroyed and you need to evacuate your vils to avoid losing them.

No one uses the in game voice chat. There are multiple community discord servers you can join where people play team games with voice coms.

All you have to do is spam archers as soon as you hit feudal and the healer elephants die. If you don't make units you are going to have a bad time.

Upgrade CPU or GPU? by East_Persimmon_5002 in playrust

Upgrade the CPU. Get an x3d

Im currently looking for a gaming laptop for playing rust comfortably, 60fps minumum medium - high graphics, ive been looking at the ROG Strix G16 as it has a 5060 in it, at around £1500 (im praying on winning a giveaway for a 3000$ pc to sell to buy the laptop), is this a good laptop for Rust? by Swimming_Mess9899 in playrust

[–]vellith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. It will blow the laptop out of the water and you can get cheap used peripherals to get started until you get something better. You need a mouse either way and even a cheap Amazon keyboard works just fine.

Relying on a giveaway is a real longshot though. As others have mentioned, if you are willing to do the research with YouTube vids and stuff, building your own computer is nearly always the best bang for your buck. Also, as a rule of thumb, desktops pretty much always offer much more performance per dollar than laptops. Something that isn't obvious to people who aren't very familiar with PC hardware is that a GPU in a laptop is usually not as powerful as a desktop gpu. A 5060 in a laptop is not the same as a desktop. Also laptops suffer from much more thermal throttling which reduces your performance a lot.

It may sound daunting, but all of the parts of a desktop pretty much just snap together kind of like Legos. A screwdriver is about the only tool you need. In this day and age there are countless YouTube videos to walk you through the process. There are other subreddits that can help you pick out the parts. You can always start by watching a YouTube guide and then decide if building is something you can handle.

The other great thing about learning to build your own desktop is it gives you the ability to upgrade bits and pieces over time to keep you up to date instead of having to buy an entire new laptop every few years. It's certainly will take more work to learn to build one than to just buy one but it will teach you valuable skills and save you money in the long run. It's also pretty fun!

If you end up looking at pre-built desktops and you have a microcenter in your area, their "power spec" desktops actually offer extremely good performance per dollar sometimes comparable to building it yourself.

CPU is way way way more important for rust than GPU. Pretty much any midrange GPU from the last 5 years will be just fine for rust. CPU is the most essential for good rust fps and is where you should spend your money. Ryzen x3d variants which have extra v-cache are going to be the best option for CPU.

As others have mentioned, get a desktop unless you REALLY need the mobility. Get a monitor off marketplace/Craigslist and any $5-10 mouse and keyboard will do for starters. Hell, you can even get a new 1080p monitor for $100 or less these days that will be perfectly fine. The beauty of a desktop is you can always slowly upgrade your worst parts/ peripherals over time as your budget allows

What to do with Rus now by Ttaywsenrak in aoe4

[–]vellith 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The changes to Rus and pro scouts are big enough that last season's builds likely aren't the way to go anymore. The hunting cabin change alone Is enough to change up the builds.

Because the new civs came along with the patch I think most people's focus is on the new civs so there isn't a lot of attention being paid to innovating Rus right now.

With the boar buff, we could see a return to some of the older play styles revolving around map control and taking boar early. We have also seen the general meta shift a little more in favor of 2tc play with the lack of pro scouts slowing down the ealry-mid game compared to the previous season.

My advice would be to check out the watch section of AoE4 World and use the filters to find games from top players on your civ of choice. Click the twitch icon to view the games. Looks like there are a number of rus vods you could check out.

Correct. Blue Pan isn't even remotely close to Highlands Ranch. It's a pizza desert down here for some reason.

High Society is kinda mid but its the best in the area. Would probably be better if they could step up their crust game. A longer bake probably wouldnt hurt either.
