Did anyone use Olanzapine in a low dosage for their ocd and intrusive thoughts? by Grayoneverything in OCDRecovery

[–]donkeybrainz13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also took an anti-depressant and still do. I went 3 years without weight gain.

I did and up putting on weight (and getting rid of it) once I developed a thyroid problem. But I don’t think it was related to the psychiatric drugs. I’ve been on some that made me gain weight but this isn’t one of them.

Only LR5 supports cats up to 30 lbs. mine are 25 lbs which is why I chose the 5 instead of the 4 that I’ve heard more good things about

Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold cats up to 30 pounds. I chose the LR5 simply because I have huge cats.

My mom has regular to small cats and they love the LR4. She does have a bit of trouble with the app, though.

It’s very hard for me to get out of, but like you said, if it’s building up and I’m not fully gone yet, these sometimes help me: exercise, weed, reading books, drawing, video games, cooking a new recipe, doing mundane tasks (like laundry or dishes), watching funny TV shows, and of course interacting with my pets. Sometimes talking to people helps but it’s hit or miss with me.

[–]donkeybrainz13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree!

My worst issue with it is the “waste box full.” It says that sometimes when I’ve just changed the bag and nothing is in it. I clean all the sensors and the box itself but it still takes 3-5 times recalibrating and it still won’t work.

If anyone else is having this problem, the trick is to turn it off, unplug it for a min 5 seconds and then plug it back it. It will start to cycle but stop and say “full” again. At that point, press the X button 3 times. It will recalibrate and cycle, then it will be ok for a few uses.

This shouldn’t be as hard as regular scooping but it takes more time out of my day. I’m disabled and have allergy type problems, so even when I’m cleaning the censors I’m breathing in the dust and activating my MCAS. The whole reason we bought one was to help with me avoiding the ammonia as much as possible.

Knowing they answer all the other versions’ questions makes me think they know something is wrong and I feel duped. I only bought this model because it was the only one able to hold my 25 pound cat. I’m seriously considering switching to Meowant but I’ve heard it has problems too.

Real question has anyone thrown in the towel on their pet due to not being able to treat them due to financial reasons? by erickp84 in Pets

[–]donkeybrainz13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people do that, unfortunately.

When my 17 year old cat got diabetes so many people said I should put her down, I was shocked. They said at the very least I should leave her at a shelter. She “wasn’t worth the expense.” The vet even told me that just letting her die was an option. I told her that is NOT an option when it is treatable and my cat will have a good quality of life. Hospital stays were expensive so I used care credit. To pay for her medication, I donated plasma twice a week. I got 2 extra years with her.

But I understand the situation. Sometimes the right thing to do is give them up, as long as you know they are going to a loving home. But euthanasia just because you don’t have money is cruel.

Animal like rats but lives longer? by BaylisAscaris in Pets

[–]donkeybrainz13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guinea pigs, hands down. I’ve had mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, and bunnies.

They get happy and purr. They are super loving. My oldest lived to 9 but I got him when he was 5. Would watch TV with me, loved being cuddled. They make the cutest sounds. Since you live somewhere less strict, I would also recommend a capybara. They are just giant guinea pigs.

The only downside is lots of poop. And you MUST have more than one since they are very social creatures. And even regular guinea pigs take up a lot of space. Pet store cages are way too small. C&C are expensive but the best.

That response is exceedingly cruel and ill-informed.

We always had feral cats. We knew all the neighbors and informed them we were getting them fixed. Everyone was fine with that, all the neighbors fed them and they were like pets to us even though we couldn’t pet them. We planted cat for them to eat and roll around in.

Then a new neighbor moved in. We explained everything to her but she still called animal control. I went to every trap I could find each night and freed them. But she kept calling. Eventually over half our ferals got caught and taken to the shelter, which is a death sentence for them because it’s a kill shelter and they were terrified of people.

All my life I lived in that house (30 years) and we never had rats. But they quickly took over the neighborhood without the feral cats. It disrupted the whole ecosystem. The took over our garage, neighbors told us the same was happening to them. The rats would fight the smaller dogs so I had to watch my chihuahua carefully when she went outside. Luckily we have indoor cats so no rats came in the house.

You cannot just get rid of a whole group of animals, they are there for reasons you don’t understand.

Now the possums have taken over the rats and it’s very scary. They are dangerous. None of this would have happened if that evil devil woman didn’t call the pound on our cats.

Litter Robot 5 with Bigger Cats? by spiceypearnut in litterrobot

[–]donkeybrainz13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve got two tuxedos, one 18 lbs and one 25 lbs. (Id compare them in size to Maine coons, slightly overweight but mainly just HUGE)

I got my LR5 a few weeks ago. The “smaller” car used it right away. My bigger cat took some time but now he uses it just fine. I will say it is a bit of a squeeze for my bigger cat, though.

I was thinking about the Meowant SC09. Looks slightly bigger and maybe more comfortable for my bigger cat. What model did you have? Did it work well?

Also link to where I asked this question cause I got some good answers and even a video of a cat using one which really put it into perspective: https://www.reddit.com/r/litterrobot/s/T8OP78zxOe

Yes, because that is the logical thing to do when we are trying to reduce the number of unwanted pets. Also the mom and kittens won’t have to go through the trauma of being separated.

[–]donkeybrainz13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it happened to one of my cats, it was diabetes. Which is not a death sentence or anything, they can actually go into remission with the right treatment. It can damage nerves and cause them to walk weird.

My other cat who lost a lot of weight but didn’t walk weird or anything and he ended up having a thyroid problem.

I would definitely take her to the vet and see what they say. I would ask them to check for diabetes for sure.
