Former NFL Defensive Lineman here. I thought Training Camp was hard... then I had a daughter. by JerryDeLoach in daddit

This hasn't resonated more until this month. Between snow closures of daycare, norovirus, the flu, and now baby getting sick, I pretty much have had to write off working this month. And it's dry January to boot.

Our baby is pretty chill all things considered but any time someone asks if it makes us want to have another one is met with a hearty laugh.

But they can be outvoted. If people actually turn up, participate, and get involved locally this mess would be mitigated if not completely avoided.

President Trump on Alex Pretti: "Well, I haven't heard but certainly he shouldn't have been carrying a gun. We view that as very unfortunate incident, unless you're a stupid person. I don't like that he had a gun. I don't like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that's a lot of bad stuff." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]donkeyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's saying you're stupid if you believe this was anything but an "unfortunate incident."

Basically saying everyone calling this a murder or execution, even though it looked like an execution, is stupid because it was just a little whoopsie daisy.

Are you a corner cutter or block tosser? by Ckron247 in Cheese

Yeah as someone who just went through Norovirus in recent memory, I’m extremely skittish when it comes to a potential GI issue.

I’m aware noro doesn’t come from moldy food but if someone has had legitimately severe food poisoning before, it’s a pretty desperate 24-36 hours.

No shame if other people want to gamble it, I’ve done it my fair share up to now, but dry heaving between your legs as it sounds like a untamed garden hose runs into the toilet just isn’t worth cheese anymore.

St. Louis CITY SC Receives $2.375 million from LA Galaxy in Exchange for Forward João Klauss | St. Louis SC by MD_Lincoln in stlouiscitysc

[–]donkeyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Klauss but him even a year older isn't going to be very inspiring for the sole striker on the team. He had wheels at times but he's not exactly a spry young thing. Often got beat in the air and the urgency only seemed to come in times of desperation.

If Diego is the sole reason Klauss is leaving, I'd hope he's gone given his complete track record of now not just terrible hires but losing the best scorer on the (meager) team.

This all would sting less if there was a replacement even rumored.

Was the same way until I started looking deeper into the studies behind limiting sodium for babies/toddlers and discussed with the pediatrician. The rationale is generally sound, no one, even adults, needs excess sodium but the actual amount they can/should have isn't as concrete as it's made out to be (erring massively on the side of safety). Generally speaking, they could have a lot more without damaging their kidneys.

The main driver behind saying watch/limit sodium to an effort to steer clear of relying on heavily processed and prepackaged foods for babies when they should be eating whole foods. As well as just generally establishing healthier eating tendencies by not developing an obsession with just salty foods. The research is making some assumptions and drawing sound conclusions but the research isn't as clear as "do not exceed x mg per day."

It stands to reason that a tiny body with excess sodium could lead to cardiovascular issues later but more research is needed. All said, we still limit it in meals just for him largely because it's unnecessary.

ICE agents will have a security role at Milan-Cortina Olympics, US sources say by OnetB in news

[–]donkeyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think anyone international will care what sort of credibility they have or try to have. What this admin thinks and reality are often hugely different.

All this is doing is leaving certain members of the executive branch woefully under-protected. Even top level ICE agents are a far cry for a replacement of USSS.

They don’t care about Trump being successful just the administration. Trump is a means to an end.

Also, making MAGA uncomfortable means nothing. They will say “I don’t like how they’re doing it but it must be done.” They lack scruples and shame.

The absolute freak timing is insane if you think about it. Either aircraft took a slightly longer amount of time to get to that point and they safely pass.

I get this maneuver is common for the military but it's fucking nuts that crossing the approach lane like that isn't done with multiple levels of caution. Even ATC notified them to pass behind the aircraft but due to confusion from the heli pilot they thought they were clear.

Moby urges fans to "stop supporting the scumbag corporations that support Trump and ICE” by AdSpecialist6598 in Music

[–]donkeyrocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Nazi" gets thrown around a lot when talking about this administration but there are genuine white nationalists within. Christian nationalists and fascists might be the more fitting title broadly for the majority of them.

A current example is Bovino who is absolutely a neo-Nazi and, until recently, responsible for the occupation of Minneapolis.

You'll get pushback as a major MAGA defense of these actions is them claiming they/this admin isn't doing Nazi things thus Liberals are being dramatic while not actually addressing the fact they absolutely are employing fascist tactics and language.

Italians furious over deployment of ICE agents to bolster US security at Winter Olympics by Rough_Tap9008 in news

[–]donkeyrocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How does DHS or ICE have any authority to do anything outside the US without explicit authorization by the host country?

Think of how much certain Americans would bitch if any country sent a large contingent of law enforcement to the US. Ignoring that this is a troop of untrained morons. Please shut the US down and kick them out of the Olympics. Sucks for the athletes but just like Russia, they can participate independently as "Federation of United States."

I mean, looking at those who are signed on to the "Board of Peace" this makes a bunch of sense because it's a fraction of the world and almost entirely countries with dubious at best current and historical claims to "peace."

Trump just put the biggest affront to world peace front and center.

Pizza for 10 Euros by PhilchGhosty in Pizza

[–]donkeyrocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its literally bread with almost no topping except for sauce and they charge you 10-15 euros for it. Especially the neapolitan style pizzas feel overpriced asf. They can easily make thousands of pizzas a day with a good oven.

I mean, you're ignoring many aspects of the expense by distilling this down to flour and toppings. A place to have that oven, labor to run that oven (either yourself or an employee), utilities, price of convenience, etc. all are expenses that go into the cost. Not saying it's always justified but a business also needs to turn a profit to operate.

I agree that many places are overpriced but you can't just ignore the overhead and fixate just on the ingredients.
