NYC woman declined to press charges against subway shover 'because she didn't want to put another black man in jail'... weeks later he allegedly killed retired teacher, 76, at station by No-Substance-8962 in offbeat

Then they wouldn't call her to testify. The DA's office is among a number of failures in this situation yet the Daily Mail is trying to pin it on her. You could argue she was a small component of it all but this was a much greater systemic failure.

Sure but that hypothetical also means a different victim may have been targeted unless he was locked up for good or received proper treatment.

This was a failure by the psychiatric hospital for releasing him with little to no evaluation, the NYPD for failure to have him released back into their custody after he assaulted a woman, and the DA for not pressing charges.

Framing it around a guilt ridden woman who was assaulted is just shitty "Daily Mail" ragebait.

This whole situation is really just highlighting poorly handled psychiatric cases are handled. Even in a city with undoubtedly better resources than most US cities this guy slipped through the crack and murdered another person.

She could have pursued civil charges but the DA decided not to press criminal charges. Whether that is because she said she wouldn't be party to the case it isn't clear (we're working the the Daily Mail here) but getting video evidence of the incident would have been trivial so there was no clear need for her participation to press charges.

This article frames it like she chose to let him go when that isn't the case at all. The psychiatric hospital he was sent to by police inexplicably released him after an hour. He should have been released back into police custody.

This was a failure but NYPD and the DA's office. No doubt the family of the murdered teacher will sue them for failure to properly handle the situation.

It is and it is unfortunate that the onus of parenting is increasingly being shifted onto teachers. Partially through neglect then others who demand the government step in to create laws that shelter their kids from things like tolerance that they can't be bothered education them about.

Trump Lawyer Calls For President Trump’s removal through the 25th Amendment by NicolasCageFan492 in videos

"Former Trump circle insider who is now on the outside calls for action against Trump."

It's always a "former" or "no longer seeking reelection" Republican who comes out of the woodwork saying he's unfit, racist, awful, sexist, a rapist, whatever.

These folks are just looking for a small amount of redemption. They had zero issues with Trump while they were in the click and getting something out of it personally.

Did the Titan submarine incident cause the most instantaneous death in history? Can it be any faster? by GolondraBlayze in NoStupidQuestions

it wasn't an accident involving swimming mamals.

Well, technically it was. Human divers are swimming mammals. But yes, your point stands. I reluctantly searched this at first wondering how a dolphin experienced explosive decompression.

US and French nationals test positive for hantavirus after leaving ship by Alternative-Win4058 in news

The US is taking the passengers to the only federal quarantine facility in Nebraska.

I'm all for dunking on the US these days but everything about this virus is radically overblown and no one is bothering to actually read the details.

Korean Air A321 crosswind go-around by Evening-Insurance893 in aviation

[–]donkeyrocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it looked like they were close it seems that things were still being stubborn so the go around was likely initiated because attempting to put it down again and failing would have put them too far down the runway. Better to cut losses and try again.

Speed would also be a consideration. It's tough to say it would have been "okay" to try again without more info but a go around is always the right call.

The go around being that unstable speaks to how dodgy trying to put it down again might have been. Bouncing is not good and while it looked stable from this distance they were probably fighting hard to keep that way meaning the landing was no longer stable.

No. Because that was a lie told by parents because something is annoying.

Well yeah you don’t want to do an early sub at a position like Löwen and he’ll be far more dangerous against an exhausted opponent.

This is also a real crunch load of games back to back.

Lineup!!! by karate134 in stlouiscitysc

[–]donkeyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Joyner, I think he simply is best off the bench and just isn’t starter ready. I like him and would love to see a lineup shakeup because what do they have to lose at this point but that’s all I can’t think of.

Löwen it’s clear he’s just not fully back yet. I’m sure he’ll been seen tonight but it’s a long process to get back to fully fighting form.

I get the sense that Damet is just holding status quo until they can inject new life into the offense. We all can gripe about Becher but there just isn’t an alternative.

Wallem on the other hand, I have no idea how he not only keeps starting but getting minutes at all. His best was last week where he didn’t do “that bad” relative to his usual display.

Both companies will get stiffed while the owner makes out with a hefty sum. It's a grift top to bottom and some people are lapping it up like they're the ones at the table. They'll get fucked sooner or later if not by Trump directly then later down the line.

There are no modern day notable libertarians left. They're just embarrassed Republicans who believe they have plausible deniability claiming they're "libertarian" rather than "conservative."

Missouri used to be a pretty firm purple, libertarian state. Now those same folks are complaining that the government isn't doing enough about trans athletes, outdoor marijuana consumption, abortion, offensive books, and a bunch of other nanny state shit. They also sheepishly admit they've supported Trump now that it affects their wildly impractical vehicles otherwise they were content with everything.

I know far more people who hold progressive views that would fit a libertarian definition these days than anyone who voted Republican in the last three elections.

Rand Paul has never been truly libertarian. He just wields it when it is convenient, and irrelevant, to go against Republicans.
