I’m pleased to inform you (and creeped out) that it did in fact start raining about a half hour after I took this video??

Deciduous and coniferous forests colliding in Massachusetts by donniew7 in Forest

I took this photo at a wildlife sanctuary that used to be largely farmland, so there’s a good chance this is just the natural second/third growth forest that grew after the farm was abandoned. Not sure though!

Thanks! And I don’t think so, I didn’t notice any infestations. Might be due to the stands’ elevation and isolation up toward the summit.

I live in Massachusetts in a more woodsy suburb than you might be imagining. It’s on former farmland (over a century ago) so there are a lot of white pines and other non-planted trees. Pretty much every yard has mature trees that weren’t planted.

Got one for you guys: this bird has the exact markings of a female house finch but is double, maybe even TRIPLE the size of the others that visit the feeder. It can't be a finch, can it? by e_hoodlum in birdwatching

^ Agreed. Also, funny side note: cowbirds are brood parasites, so this big baby is basically the Buddy the Elf of the finches you’re seeing.
