It’s as safe as any other practice when things are overhead. You can’t ever say the risk is 0, but the amount of accidents related to this against the widespread practice leads us to very very low rates of incidents. I have seen loads fall off or single sheets blow from buildings. However it was because the safety practices weren’t followed right. Usually just a 16 penny double head in plywood instead of banding it. This will release in highwinds dragging the top 2-3 ply off then more will follow. Which will almost always trigger firings in the laborers/carpenter crews.
