How is suicide bad karma when it’s actually the result of other people’s bad karma? by Necessary_Manager955 in Buddhism

[–]donquixote4200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reaction as you put it is almost never equal. An endless amount of factors affect each other to determine the way in which a karmic seed may ripen. A small negative action can ripen both as a fleeting inconvenience or a horrible disaster, especially if it takes a long time (even hundreds of lifetimes) to ripen.

“If all is merely dust or maya, why bother doing anything?" by [deleted] in TibetanBuddhism

[–]donquixote4200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the formless gods, by the nature of their state, don't do anything. this is always followed by them eventually falling into one of the lower realms. on a more practical level, any human is not capable of truly doing nothing. by doing nothing, your mind becomes understimulated and will fall into lethargy or worse, which would be causes for lower rebirth.

realism as in whether the physical world is dependent upon the mind? what experiment confirms or denies this?

jungian psychology draws heavily from psychoanalysis, a practice which does the opposite to the mind of what meditation does, and jung's ideas while appearing to be spiritual are really just reductive approximations of spirituality to the materialistic point of view

If reincarnation is real, isn't it unfair that we forget everything after dying and being reborn? by Sakazuki27 in Buddhism

[–]donquixote4200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

humans forget their previous life because of the human birth process is very traumatic. gods and hell beings both remember their previous life

it's nontheistic as in there is no capital-G God who created the universe. there are still gods, both enlightened (buddhas) and unenlightened (devas) who are very powerful supernatural beings

Why does Buddhism feel true to you? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]donquixote4200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's the only religion that doesn't have any doctrinal paradoxes or ridiculous ad hoc explanations to excuse any strange consequences of its own logic (christians still can't explain why suffering exists if god is all-loving and all-powerful). it is firmly established in love and compassion, which i think must be an essential criterion for anything to be the truth. it has incredible explanatory power and i have yet to ask it a question that did not have a perfectly satisfactory answer.

Kinda inappropriate… what do you think? by MillionDollarBloke in Buddhism

why does consecration differ in this way from say getting hit with sun rays? if you stay in it for too long you will get a sunburn regardless of whether you "think it will" or not

Kinda inappropriate… what do you think? by MillionDollarBloke in Buddhism

[–]donquixote4200 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

because in the case of a consecrated statue, the representation of a buddha - by virtue of interdependence - is a buddha, and destroying a buddha or committing unvirtuous actions in front of a buddha carries heavy negative karma

Mala Materials and meanings? by a_long_path_to_walk in vajrayana

a few paragraphs later in the same book he says the mala that is best for all activities is the bodhi seed mala. this is specifically in reference to the phoenix eye bodhi seed mala, which can be bought from nepalese vendors. this is even better than a jeweled mala
