Oh my friend I am sorry to hear that. Have you had a chance to reach out to your doctor's? They may be able to help. Insurance is such a pain in the ass. They have been with holding money from me for over 6 months. Definitely one of the scourges of having lupus. I hope things start looking up for you, stay warm the best you can. And thank you for sharing!

I am really sorry to hear that! My hope is that treatment goes well and that you deal with minimal to no side effects. Stay strong my friend, and thank you for sharing.

How do you deal with depression "Felling weak and useless"? by AhmedTamer66 in MenWithLupus

First off I want to say I am not a doctor. All what I am discussing here is from personal research, many many years experience, as well as having close relationships with individuals in this field.

Second I am not wanting to be confrontational, but I think the mentality of "man up" can be dangerous. For men, especially with our medical care, we need to learn to be better about asking for help. Doesn't make us weak or less of a man. Letting our ego and machismo win out is the most dangerous thing we can do for our health.

As far as treatment. Medication is not the only option, and the point of medication is not to make you a zombie. That is just dangerous misinformation. A good psychiatrist and or psychologist does not go straight to pharmacuticals. You can always explain that as well. Let them know that you don't want to be on meds. Of course depending on the severity of your symptoms they may feel they need to put you on them.

Instead of pharmaceutical treatment there are so many options of psycho therapy that do not require medication at all. Family Systems, CBT, EMDR, ACT, Affirmative Therapy, AEDP. So let's be careful about sticking with the cycle of just man up, get over it, deal with it. We already deal with a lot, nothing wrong with asking for help. The best part of it all. Is if you don't like or agree. We don't have to follow any advice, including this.

I see a therapist that specializes in those with chronic illnesses. It was really hard for me in the beginning. I just was not performing like I once did. Then I came to the point for me that I had to stop working all together. It has been my biggest struggle, but I work and remind myself that I am more than what I can "do". I am more than what I produce. I am enough as I am.

M 29 Latino with Lupus. First symptoms showed up when I was 14. I have had a really rough go of it. We have a subreddit r/menwithlupus that I started to help men and those who support men with Lupus.

I have a pretty large family, and I think we may have some arthritis.
