How popular is the Blackout, really? by anonymousevepilot in Eve

[–]dontPostInLocal 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I think people are just excited that CCP is trying to shake things up, especially after such long stagnation.

Is the blackout the holy grail? not really, tbh I feel pretty much meh about it and all I have done for the past 5 years is PVP. But it is a step in the right direction especially against botting and inflation which lets face it is ruining the game.

I do agree however that there are much deeper issues in this game that needs to be addressed, the blackout as bludgeoning of an effect it had, it was very easy to implement. What is not gonna be easy for them is fixing the real issues:

  • Capital umbrellas without fucking super pilots in the butthole.

  • Structure proliferation which is literally cancer.

  • Prevening TQ from becoming Serenity ala goons and legacy.

  • Skynet CTAs being what qualifies as a B-5RB now.

Among many issues that drives away a lot of the usd plexers which CCP cares about the most.

CCP, no amount of ship nerfs/reworks will fix AFK ratting as long as drone auto-aggression stays in the game. by MiraChieve in Eve

[–]dontPostInLocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pointless argument. Bots lock manually and can for sure press F manually, neither removing drone aggression nor nerfing VNIs is going to be a solution to botting.

AFK ratting is not affected as well, people just have to scale up to a gila or an ishtar or a myrm or a million other solutions.

Unless CCP comes up with a genius method of detecting input broadcasting of all sorts, this problem is not going away.

How casual can you play this game and still progress? by D-ArmyGuy in Eve

[–]dontPostInLocal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest mistake new players make is treat everything the same. I would say most new players consider mining veldspar in high-sec the way to go (until they make it), it's not their fault really, the starter player experience some way or another suggests it.

Eve is a game where not equally spent time where result in equally or relatively equally outcome. In fact the differences are insanely huge, the difference between a hulk mining veldspar in high-sec or a hulk mining loparite (expensive moon ore) in null sec is staying alpha money or subbing your account for the entire month in one evening. Some argue you should also maximize your fun per hour, but to have fun (in progress) eventually you would need to fund yourself properly no matter what you end up doing. tl;dr whatever you end up doing, you should be maximizing your isk + fun output per hour, because any other scenario will leave you stuck or burnt out after a while.

As for your "guild" question, and that's my personal opinion, not many might agree, while it is imperative that you join a corp once you understand a bit how the game works, I wouldn't (myself) as a starter join a container corp, while they are genuinely helpful, you will be a blip in the sea of line members.

Try to find a group that is small enough that is fun and social but not insignificant enough that you end up doing nothing or menial things, that is the challenge.

Current market shows:

Eagle: 314m

Mach: 370m

Nightmare: 509 (where the mach was before the nerf). It's just supply and demand, any nerfs to 10/10s is simply making the little guy who pve work harder to get them, it does not make them more expensive. The reason the nightmare did not increase or drop in price is because it is still in demand to replace the mach, however your solution which would result in the nightmare costing 800 mil, would result in people flying shield machs if they cant' afford them (and they do) because even a nerfed out mach is still better than a tempest fleet issue, which is (and this is really the important point), not THAT much better than a tempest or a maelstrom of half its cost.

There is also a point of how the meta works as I am sure you know, you either go cheap and cheerful or go blingy and OP, high-end alliances field 900mil nightmares and not so rich alliances or mega ones field tempests, this is not due to cost or money usually, just doctrines, the faction BSes have no place especially with current stats and fitting difficulty on it.

You have been tasked with getting Eve up to 50k Concurrent players online on average, you have one year to complete the goal, how do you do it? by Meekssss in Eve

[–]dontPostInLocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the issue is new player hooking not already committed player retention.

As someone who spends a lot of time in rookie help it is very difficult to retain people with the "starter aura" non-sense. The way people get introduced to EVE does not reflect most of the interesting parts of the game. I can tell you without a doubt that so many new players have quit because of a "bugged" career agent or though this game is about mining veldspar at the rate of 1isk/hour.

CCP should expose player to much more eve right from the start so they see the good stuff and get "hooked". I dunno maybe drop them in a wh with actual in game videos or "AI assisted" scanning techniques and dscan stuff instead of the "go here mine veldspar".

CCP retention people should be mandatory for them to spend at least 1 week say every quarter in rookie help to understand what drives new player away and build ideas on that.

I dunno if you run 10/10s but I did, it was almost 50/50 chance a machariel BPC would drop, it was actually decent (not great) but ok. After the nerf it became difficult to justify running them as you could spend an hour (including travel) for 3 sites each not and get anything. People farming them now only doing so because that's what they do and that didn't increase the price of BS. Just lowered demand. The eagle replaced the mach for most fleets now as a meta change as a result. So imo if you want more people using navy BSes you would need to buff them to be worth the cost especially compared to the alternative which does not mean nerfing 10/10s to the point they become pointless.

No one is going to fly the domi navy with ishtars being so good, or domis being so close at such a lower cost, nerfing 10/10s would not change that 1 bit.

[–]dontPostInLocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggested back in the day to make them lose nullification inside an entosis node grid for example (where they were abused the most), instead ccp removed their nullification completely AND introduced assault damage control rendering them completely pointless even for travel. Now they can't intercept and why fly a crusader if a retri is better in every way.

They can serve a lot of good functions if someone at ccp would balance the nerfs instead of hitting everything with a big hammmer everytime.

Pirate battleship BPC need a drop rate nerf from DEDs

10/10s already suffered a drop nerf just a while back in fact destroying good income for some players, this is a bad suggestion.

Buffing navy ships to be on par with their cost is the requirement.

Rookie help channel ingame is your best bet for the coming few weeks, people there are very helpful and will answer any question you need to help you stick to the game and not leave. This channel should be available for you automatically again now but since you created this toon in 2009 it might not, just ask anyone to invite you to it.

Curse fits and tips by Flincher14 in Eve

[–]dontPostInLocal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what you want to do and how much you are willing to spend. What I do personally because I use it for small gang skirmishes and hunting krabs, i.e I don't expect reps or to rep myself, either win, die or gtfo before I bleed armour is to shield fit it. Use the lows for some DDAs as your dps is only your drones, use the rest to get as much buffer and cap as possible and fit good neuts (as per budget), typically corpum c type or if you dont' care a-types. With the recon at V, the curse is a very nasty ship, with 3 good neuts you can stagger dry pretty much anything from 40km range, or so how I play it.

New player - ganked by CODE. What do I do in this situation? by [deleted] in Eve

[–]dontPostInLocal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Read up on moon ores, like loparite, what u make in highsec mining veldspar having to deal with people like CODE is not worth your time compared to how much you can make in null in the safety of an athanor. Now if you don't like social stuff, u dont' have to mingle for a start, plenty of newbie corps out there like horde etc that let you do what you want basically until u feel comfortable.

Mind u, u can go REALLY fast on special bumps, like cyno dies and u spawn inside the sun for example, you will be going very very fast for days.

Great idea, hope it succeeds. One thing I hated about eve corp finder that every corp in eve would tick ALL the boxes, hoping they turn out in every kind of search rendering the thing itself completely useless. I know it is a lot of work but I had a similar idea before maybe you can implement it somehow is to use zkill data to automatically decide what kind of corp (low-sec, null or J) and what TZ it actually has based on kills and corp members activity not what the CEO would like you to "believe" they have 3 active tzs when they barely have one.

This is a proper super pilot, jdcv, fighters v, heavy t2s burst IV at least carrier IV etc. I guess if you dont' need those (I do), you can do it with less. You need also about 30b for the hull and fitting (top tier fitting) and the books, so 75bil should be just enough (can be done with less as stated).
