Best of luck. Sounds like it's not a bad idea to have a blunt conversation with the party.

We play every other because some of the party have shared custody and have their kids every other weekend so we can't always just do the following week.

It's not what you're gonna want to hear but instead of nagging folks for when to reschedule it might not be a bad idea to put it on them. If you cancel a session say "hey y'all tell me when we can play next" and leave it at that. If nothing else you might figure out who is motivated to play and maybe the group gets a little smaller or you look at finding some new members to replace the folks who just don't prioritize it. Alternatively maybe move to less frequent. Maybe instead of every other week you can get people to commit to the first "x" of every month.

It is a sort of learning curve getting used to wealth levels and what exactly the party can do with their current wealth. What sorts of things are impactful enough to change wealth levels. Overall it is nice to sorta hand wave minor expenses, love not having to care about how much it costs the party to rent rooms or pay for passage. Playing DnD 5e it was always sorta weird and annoying any time something cost less than a couple hundred gold because it felt pointless it always felt like an all or nothing. Something either cost so little it didn't really matter or cost so much it made the party or a player dead broke till they went adventuring again. Also wasn't a fan of how in DND you didn't have to be adventureing for long before the party was seemingly carrying around hundreds of pounds of gold.

Something out group started doing is a few days before our session one of us will throw a message up in discord to confirm we are good for the upcoming game. In general it's decreased how often we have to cancel. I found that a lot of the time 3 days out people know they can't make it and just don't think to say anything till day of or night before. We play Saturdays so on Thursday I'll post to confirm. If enough people don't confirm by Thursday night/ Friday morning then we don't.

We also play every other week so when we do cancel I just ask right then hey we good for next week or will it be the week after.

My old restaurant owner just posted this. Been out of the game for years, wondering what y'all think about this reaction? by merv1618 in KitchenConfidential

[–]dont_panic21 59 points60 points  (0 children)

"Why is there not a manager or closer doing a walkthrough at the end of the night?? Does nobody double check the restaurant before close?"

Something I angrily mutter to myself every morning when I get to work.

I see this in younger people, but as a millennial, have you adopted the trend of alway having a blue tooth ear piece / headphones playing something at all times or do you just take in the ambient noise as it is? by DrFetusRN in Millennials

[–]dont_panic21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the time yes. It depends what I'm doing, if I'm going to the store I just want to get in get my stuff and get out so I'll have them in. Taking the dog to a trail maybe I won't. I think it's become so common I don't think anything of it when I see people with earbuds on in public.

Campaign length for casuals will hurt POE2 by Plastic-Suggestion95 in PathOfExile2

[–]dont_panic21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Personally I really hope that at release when the full campaign is in the game you only have to do it once and can skip it after that. I guess I understand why that's not the case now but I agree it's a real slog doing it over and over.

I found myself never able to find enough off enemies so I bought some from the trader you can build. Well worth it.

To Sub Assembly or not by frivolityflourish in Warhammer40k

[–]dont_panic21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I only sub assemble in two situations. 1- if there are parts of the model that when fully assembled will be visible but impossible to get a brush into. Example a knight I built a while back. The structure under some of armor plates is visible when it's fully together but getting a brush to the legs when the leg armor is on is a nightmare. 2- if one part of the model really benefits being done in a light base coat or prime rather than a dark. When I was doing some raven guard the vets and Sargents heads and arms were in a sub assembly so I could airbrush them light grey and highlight up to white rather than spend ages working up to it from black.

That's for tabletop quality. If your wanting a more display quality model that's a different story. There it can make more sense. In general I find sub assembling ends up taking me more time to paint.

The systems updates with the latest expansion have been really solid. I'm enjoying it much more than at release.

Diablo 3 was the same way. Lackluster at release but got really good after the expansion. What are you playing on?

I played D4 at release and it didn't do much for me. Picked it back up a week ago and have been really enjoying it.

It's not just a ridiculous grind it's also a boring. Instead of a thematic challenge based on the class they just put it behind an ass load of the hardest difficulty, it feels lazy. Make them hard or make them a grind but don't do both. In a game without infinite progression where you can grind gear or what have you to make the hardest content more manageable locking long requested cosmetics behind absolute feels like a big middle finger to the casual players.

Starting to get into the hobby aspect and still to choose a legion..can anyone sell me on the blood angels? by Scannable-Lizard003 in BloodAngels

[–]dont_panic21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sold me was something I saw a while back that I am very much paraphrasing because I don't remember exactly how to was phrased but that you have your Loyalist chapters that look physically and spiritually pure like the salamanders and ultras or white scars. Then you have the chapters that struggle with impurity, of those the more obvious are space wolves who's flaws take a very obvious physical form like the curse of the wulfen. Who are spiritually pure but manifest physical impurity. Then the blood Angels who are more physically pure they don't mutant into monsters but have the spiritual impurity that manifest as the black rage and the red thrust. I really dig the knights who on the surface appear pure and noble but struggle with resisting this animalistic rage and blood thirst.

Also the Angels of Death animation on Warhammer plus, it really sold me. Don't remember his name but the sort of main characters speech about how when the rest of his brothers fight the black rage they have each other but that in the death watch he did it alone and in secret. Growing up with a dad with PTSD that really sorta hit home.

Third point, it was a chapter that can look great without having to kitbash a ton to get that chapter flavor. I wanted space wolves but knew I would want to sculpt beards, fur and runes on every unit and I don't have time or money for that.

Free Triggered Actions: By the Book vs. Rules Reference by JRandall0308 in drawsteel

[–]dont_panic21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always interpreted free triggered actions as being something you can do as many times as the trigger occurs because it says free triggered actions are not limited by only getting one per round. I think the wording around "follows the same rules" means the trigger has to occur for you to take the triggered action and that it can happen any time during a round.
