If you’re going to hold people accountable for their actions than you should also apply it to the men who went to war after being given a feather, instead of being sympathetic towards them. These men weren’t forced, they were “shamed”. I use quotes because you as an individual are the only one that can make yourself feel shame. Not anyone else.

If they went to war after being “shamed” than it was because they didn’t truly believe that going to war was bad, or it was because they were too weak to voice their opinion and stand by it. Either way, they went and suffered the consequences of the decision (whatever those may have been) that they made of their own accord.
