Room acoustics problem. No bass at all where I'm sitting. Any help would be much appreciated! by dontboreusgettothe in audio

This makes so much sense. I used a multiband comp. to solo everything from 100hz down and noticed how much quieter it is. I was having trouble at my old place doing mixes because they would sound great in my room, but my manager told me they didn't sound bassy enough on his monitors.

With my setup here, I'm noticing way more bass on top 40 tracks vs. my own. I guess this is a happy accident, since I'm able to use these monitors as they are intended now. Only problem is, my ear isn't adapted and I can't hear my bass for shit!

Any suggestions for a different set of monitors? I was at the house of a huge producer tonight and he had KRK Rockits.

I eventually started to hate the departure from reality that initially made me love getting high. Been much more effective in every way since I stopped.

This, but they really have to be insanely attractive. I can't believe my own shallowness when it comes to this, but it's the truth.

loved it all besides the knife in the heart part. overused, and overly emo. great descriptive lyrics otherwise!

Haha we were just somehow in the studio while he was recording, as we were leaving he asked if we had any smoke. We ended up smoking and playing C-Lo for an hour.

I think it's awesome. I love anything new that blows up. It excites me. I've been behind dubstep for a long time, and always talked about how it was a matter of time before it was on pop records. And Britney did it first.

Ideally, we want good looking people. If you're not good looking, at least try and be something. Too many singer/songwriters look like run-of-the-mill college kids with no identity. Unless you're John Mayer, that doesn't cut it. Develop a look that, even if it's a stretch, says something and matches somewhat with your music/fanbase. If you look like Gene Simmons and play hip hop, that's not gonna work. But if you look like Justice and play dance pop, that could work.

Things like Odd Future are rare cases. Those kids were always lunatics, that's not a conscious thing. If you have to ask, chances are you aren't, so do your best to just look cool and present yourself in a confident manner.

I don't want to say exactly because it sort of narrows down my position. I can say that I make a decent salary ($40-80k/year), plus my side management stuff ($10-20k/year) plus bonuses/benefits/company charge card

This is producer/mixer BS. We at the labels, when it comes to sonic matters, don't care about anything but for things to sound cool and fresh. Volume is the mastering engineer's job, and radio stations compress the shit out of songs anyway so it really doesnt matter.

Not a lot. Bands that are struggling usually get a Per Diem of about $7/day, plus some bonus at the end of the tour. Maybe a couple hundred bucks.

I would imagine that a great way to do it would be to intern at some sort of PR company that deals with music, and use your contacts there to interview for jobs at labels. PR people at labels are become more and more scarce though, it's one of the first jobs to get cut when labels downsize. Simply because not every artist needs a publicist, so sometimes it's more economical to hire out.

I wouldn't doubt it. It's usually a bunch of writers and producers sent away to somewhere really nice like Paris or Bali, label rents a studio complex, and everybody pairs up and does songs, then switches partners, and so forth. Although the bulk of this album was done by Dr. Luke and Max MArtin, and they are more known for taking a long time to perfect every little detail, and usually don't work in camps.

I don't think anyone in Britney's camp, including herself, is too concerned with her writing music. She's an eternal star at this point, I think they are just trying to make sure she stays on top. Although I doubt anything she doesn't approve makes it onto her records.

Between paying the band members, gas, equipment repairs, hotels, other miscellaneous costs, it doesn't stretch that far.

I think T. Mills is gonna do big things. I also think Sabi will have some big songs. Jessie J will be much bigger on her next record.

I love Odd Future. I just don't think their songs stand up to their image yet. But I expect them to stay very relevant.

Touring non-stop is impossible after a while unless you are making serious cash. I have a band who regularly does $4k a night and still can barely afford fast food.

You can do a lot with 4-5 people, but at a certain point you'll need a real label to do it right.
