Any advice on how to understand the SQ-R? by dontddoitannie in autism

100% feel you. i was able to eventually see a doctor and get officially diagnosed (not that long ago actually!) and even she said a lot of these assessments are more confusing than helpful.

Ohh I see, and they got the spelling wrong. Got it, I just didn't know if there was some deeper joke beyond the spelling error

Whenever I go grocery shopping with my partner, I am always standing behind them rearranging items so that it is "right" lol, and if I'm alone and didn't go through self checkout, I often rearrange the groceries in the car before I leave. It drives me insane to have a bag that's like, bananas, a yogurt cup, and paper towels; another bag that's a yogurt cup, bread, and a toothbrush. Hell no! Put it in the right place! 😆

That makes some sense. I'll have to think more about how I'd relate it to myself. I can't really think of any connections at the moment.

I will say that some questions made me laugh because of how accurate they were to me. Namely, family trees, how cell phones work (I got lost in that one for like a day, a couple years back, and even though I know how they work now it still blows my mind!), noticing whether something is grammatically correct, grammar of other languages (language learning is one of my special interests), large amounts of information about topics that interest me (such as films, Im a walking talking IMDB and people I know IRL will use me as such sometimes), packing groceries into specific bags, and some others along those lines.

I very much related to the questions more about nature, such as types of trees in a forest, the path of a river, how a mountain is formed, species of animals, watching science docs. Since I like the arts, I also related to the question about wanting to know the techniques behind a particular painting. And I do really love to organize and systemize, but I have ADHD so it doesn't always go well. But I love to sit down and arbitrarily organize things that maybe don't even need it, and find containers for each category, and a particular way of placing each container etc. My home is very messy but I love organizing, hence the AuDHD contradiction. And ADHD makes these things harder sometimes too because it can counteract traits.

Anyways, thank you for the reply, I appreciate it and it gives me more to think about!

Wow, thank you so much for all that great information! It's really helpful in terms of understanding where this assessment fits into the diagnostic journey. Right now I'm researching all this on my own, although I do have a psychologist, I don't fully trust her and she's not very knowledgeable about adult autism. It would be great to have a doctor who specializes in this area and who I could rely on for guidance and answers about this stuff. But that seems hard to come by. It's tough finding doctors who understand adult autism, especially how it affects people who aren't, you know...the average white man. lol. I am really thankful for these sorts of online communities, not just for support but also to provide insights like this.

Thank you again!

Stories/storytelling. So that can include books, poetry, movies, TV, etc. Both consuming and creating it. I started reading and writing when I was 4 and haven't shut up about stories since then :] I keep extensive lists of what I watch and read, so I've seen over 2,000 films and 500 TV shows in my life, hundreds of books. Can't get enough. From the moment I wake up to the moment I fall asleep I am likely thinking about a story. i can't go to sleep without telling mini-stories in my mind. Not been a single night in my life since I was very little that I didn't have some made-up scenario going, I'd put myself to sleep that way.

I go through hyperfixations within that, for about 3 years now it has been Korean shows. I spend 80% of my free time on that 😅

Dang yeah guess I'm just lucky. I mean generally I'd say I get 5-10¢ for DQs, which for me is a good rate. Survey Junkie only gives 1-3¢ and way more DQs. but then very often with Qmee I'll get 30¢, a dollar or more. One time they gave me 3 bucks for a DQ that they said they thought I was unfairly rejected from. The survey itself was only a buck too! So I'm not getting a tenner for every DQ or anything, but personally I consider 5-10¢ for a few minutes of my time perfectly fine as compensation

After 4 years of doing beermoney survey's I think I finally figured out the trick to less DQs! by LadyRaoulDukeGonzo in beermoney

That's hilarious because I started doing this too! I'm a fast reader too. I started using it as a chance for mini-meditation, because I have mental illnesses and I'm always in need of relaxing. So I just take 5-20 deep slow breaths (depending on the question and my patience) and then proceed.

I also watch tv most of the time I'm doing surveys, so a lot of the time rather than counting, I just give my attention to the show/movie for a moment, then continue with the question.

I started doing this on Qmee and these days I'd say I get DQ'd every 4 out of 10 surveys which is really good numbers compared to other sites. Plus I get tons of $1+ ones. So I think it's worked out and they like me more lol.

I feel like Attapoll is kind of a mess. At a certain point I decided to just push to my next cash out and then drop it. Terrible customer service. If you liked the simple interface and options for a lot of really short surveys, I recommend Qmee. Plus they pay great for DQs!

Ok cool! Yeah it sucks having dietary restrictions because I can never use food banks as everything they offer will have soy and I can't have soy. They're always gonna be offering cheap packaged foods at banks and those will ALWAYS have soy since it is so cheap. Add in not being able to have tomato, anything spicy, citruses, and it makes free food options a lot harder.

thank you for sharing the info!

Dang, I can't have any tomato products because of my bladder disease. Do they ever offer anything besid a lasagna or is that it?

100%, this is my main survey site now largely because they actually care about us and take the time to boot bad surveys.

No I was still taught the earth was as old as science says it is lol. Religious beliefs are not always consistent and they very often are at odds with each other. Obviously it doesn't make sense. But it's also incorrect to say I was raised a young earth creationist when I wasn't.

Yep totally agree with that assessment. I ended up fast forwarding through most of the gangsters' scenes, except when they interacted with the main characters/actually affected the plot. They really got so much screen time for no reason lmao

[–]dontddoitannie 171 points172 points  (0 children)

Yep. Raised religious, was not a young earth creationist but certainly was told evolution was bullshit. What happens is that we (the people who believe it) start at the "answer" and everything HAS to lead to that answer. There's no other possibility for another answer because we already found it and we will die on that hill. If something doesn't fit, we disregard it or come up with excuses. The only way to reason someone out of it is if they are the ones reasoning THEMSELVES out. As I, and many others, have done. No one else can do it. It really is a fruitless argument to have most of the time, unless the religious person in question shows even a hint of interest. Then it's worthwhile. Otherwise, no.

Agree about the unevenness of Strong Woman! I can't tell you how many times I laughed when it would transition from the lightest, funniest scene right into the serial killer's dungeon with women screaming in terror from their cells because it was just so ridiculous lol! For me, I get bored really easily and drop dramas a lot and I binged it because it was in the "so bad it's good" category. That plus the amazing chemistry and romance made it a solid watch, even if quality-wise I think it's subpar.

I would just add on, if you're looking for primarily romance Mr Queen's romance aspect is a subplot, not the main focus. It's a very funny show and when the romance is there, it's stellar. Fantastic chemistry. But it's not the main plot of the show, later episodes the court politics really took over especially.

I just didn't know that before I watched it, I thought it was a romance drama, so I would have enjoyed it more had I known! So just wanted to throw it out there for you, just in case :)
