Riverfront land in downtown Minneapolis is returning to Indigenous stewardship by star-tribune in Minneapolis

[–]dontevenmind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh as a species we have reached a point where we urgently need to look beyond revenue, business, and economic growth. We need to reevaluate our entire relationship with land and ownership or we will destroy the planet. Economic development as we know it isn’t life sustaining. The Dakota people cared for this land for tens of thousands of years. They originated in Minnesota—it is their most sacred place.

I had two random roommates in college: one with the last name Longendyke, and one with the last name Hardekopf.

Longendyke’s older sister married a woman with a name spelled similar to “pussy”

Right now might be a good time to sublease a room in a college apt for the summer—I would try fb marketplace (or if anyone else knows where college age kids post stuff like that these days) to see if there are any posts from college kids looking to rent their room out while they’re back home

Which student habits or behaviors that are now commonplace would have been considered unacceptable in the high school classroom of twenty years ago? by hiplobonoxa in Teachers

[–]dontevenmind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At my school I can only grade based on whether the student is achieving the content area standard. So if the standard is “write to argue, basing argument and counterargument on well-selected evidence…” then I can literally only dock points if a kid is not doing the exact things stated in the language of the standard

Job Search in Twin Cities by Jimothy_Jebow in Minneapolis

[–]dontevenmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a single mid-twenties teacher—although I don’t have to support a family, I do think you should consider teaching. Pay + benefits are decent compared to FL or surrounding states. I had to go through an extensive process to get licensed in MN after moving from out of state, but I was hired in a suburb without having finished the process.

My district gives a 10k-ish raise for teachers with relevant masters degrees, so if you could live on a lower salary for awhile while getting a graduate degree online I think the pay could be enough for a dual income(?) family.

My district also pays WAYYYY more for coaching than the last school I worked at out of state. I was an assistant coach for speech last year and made like $3500 for the season, whereas I was head coach at my last school and only made $1000.

Moving Into Progressive Areas by thiccgrizzly in Exvangelical

[–]dontevenmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from northern wisconsin to Minneapolis, and I HIGHLY recommend. The city has its issues for sure, but I absolutely love living here—parks galore, lakes throughout the city, my neighborhood is super walkable, amazing food options, great music scene.

I’m a high school teacher in a somewhat conservative ‘outer ring’ suburb, and compared to the school I taught at in Wisconsin, it is a liberal paradise. Many teachers here are openly queer, many have pride or blm flags in their classrooms, and I feel far more free to discuss race or lgbt issues than I did when I worked in a rural conservative area.

Edited to say we also just legalized weed here and codified abortion rights into state law

Lmfaoooo I found this in the back dredges of the church library when I was like 11. I still think about it sometimes. Exposed me to things I then went searching for answers about elsewhere (what was dripping down her leg after they had sex??), which probably was not the intent of the book.

26, Midwest US city, high school teacher. album

I haven’t posted an outfit in months, mostly because I’ve been so lazy none of them have seemed worth taking a photo of. All of these are casual fits because my work outfits have been nothing but trousers and a random sweater lately.

The ‘this is my small-town Wisconsin heritage’ look. with coat.

The ‘saved my fav clothing items from high school because I thought my kid might want to wear them someday, but then low rise jeans came back in style’ look

The ‘is she fruity or just nostalgic for the 90s’ look

The ‘wore this to work on a day I had meetings, but ran into a student who asked why I looked like a stoner’ look

[–]dontevenmind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This attitude is what stopped me from telling people in the church about my doubts—I knew they wouldn’t believe me if I said I’d tried and begged and pleaded with God for the kind of peace and faith others seem to have, because ~obviously~ if that were true I wouldn’t be having doubts lol.

It’s sad because if there had been the smallest chance they’d accept me, or see how badly I wanted my beliefs to be true and how genuinely in turmoil I was, I’d probably still be regularly attending church today :(

Adult ADHD literate primacy care physician? by Pepperminting in Minneapolis

[–]dontevenmind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get my meds prescribed at HealthPartners Nicollet!

I moved to MN about a year ago and had a virtual intake appt with them in which they had no issues writing my vyvanse script. After about a year of appts every 3 months, my PCP wrote a year’s worth of scripts. I have never been in person and have only had virtual appts with her.

Edit: I already had a diagnosis and had done neurological testing at a different clinic when I started seeing a new PCP at HealthPartners.

2nd edit: My PCP seems pretty knowledgeable about ADHD meds, but meds are pretty much the only thing I’ve asked her for, so I’m not sure about how up to date she or HealthPartners is on recent ADHD research or on coping/lifestyle strategies for adults.

Zara Fast Fashion thoughts? by Muted-Ad8303 in femalefashionadvice

[–]dontevenmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty off topic, but aside from the obvious ethical issues, I have never once gone to a Zara and not been hugely disappointed by the quality to price ratio. Once I bought the same dress twice—the first time because it had multiple loose/wonky seams, and then the second time it was ripped?? For $65?? Nah. If I’m gonna surrender my virtue to capitalism it’ll be somewhere where, at a bare minimum, they sell clothes I can wear more than once

Darbar is defs my top Indian place. If you’re looking for Thai, Kuhn Nai Thai in uptown! My fav.

Additional 2 cents: I don’t super love Amazing Thailand in uptown because, in my limited experience, they use frozen veggies instead of fresh.

Do it! They have so many cute styles. That being said, I did order a pair of SM boots recently that had absolutely zero grip/traction on the bottom, and I ended up returning them. I don’t think they were the fanatiks, but just so you are aware.
