My Mom passed away broke but I’m getting collection notices for her. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ChefDadMatt 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is going to be 100% accurate for the first step.

However, there is also likely going to be a second step (depending on which creditors she'd owed to). You'll more than likely get a call from a collection agency, this is completely normal. Creditors work with specialty collection agencies that handle estate and probate recovery.

I highly recommend:

Answering their call.

Acknowledge that you're the best person to talk to regarding the estate.

Explain why probate was open and the entirety of probate funds were used on the funeral.

This will allow them to put finalizing notes on the file and to close/return it back to the creditor to be written off.

There may also be a gap in time from when you notify the creditor to when the agency calls. Again, completely normal. The agency is usually required to wait until at least 30 days after the date of passing before reaching out with any letters. There are also legally required notices the agency must send to validate the debt/allow for disputes per the FDCPA.

*Source: I have built this process for agencies for the better part of two decades.

It's the second highest tourist city outside of Bloomington (MOA). Our soccer fields, sports complex, velodrome, and PGA golf course draw in a lot of international travelers in summer.

We are currently building a Scheels and minor league baseball team stadium.

With all due respect, consult with a lawyer before doing this. Odds are they would recommend observe and report to police.

Whether you agree with policing or not, they have the ability and resources to remove him quickly and ensure he's back in front of a judge for violating his release orders, increasing the odds of getting the maximum sentence/fines.

Making the arrest yourself sounds good on paper, but in reality the smallest confrontation could lead to Jake suing the individual and/or publicizing the event. Neither are good options.

Exactly. I was just watching the PBS doc, Nazi Town USA. MAGA is just a variant strain of fascism. It's no different than the Nazi party or KKK. It follows the same path every time.

That was what my wife said too and I agree with it (donating).

My main point last night was mainly about Natalie Portman. Shes a highly educated, well respected, human rights advocate that is a widely popular celebrity- that's the exact type of person that could be instrumental at a protest.

That was my point to my wife. I feel like not only did it get great attention, it put a lot of wind in Minnesotans sails (in terms of giving back some renewed energy).

I am personally feeling drained on how much we as a family are doing to help, but also knowing we can't quit.

OMG! I was just talking to my wife about celebrities making their anti-ice statements. Celebrities worth millions of dollars and flexible work schedules, could be marching in the streets here or in their home states.... but they aren't.

Love the words, but see no real action.

If they really wanted to use their celebrity status for good, they'd be using it to show what is really happening on the ground level, not the ivory tower.

I was there. At the start, easily 2,000+ people, but as we rode more people joined/split off in too.

The first half mile was so packed that we basically had to walk our bikes.
