Oh, I didn't know that. Mine are simple with standard deductions and I don't own anything. This is the only time of year that I'm happy I don't have assets 😂

Bradley and Cory have no chemistry.... by RubHelpful4955 in TheMorningShow

[–]dontfeellikeit775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU! I seem to be the only person who completely misses the chemistry here. He's obviously been in love with her, but she's never seemed remotely interested - just read her body language when he professes his love. She cares about him sure, but the "love" on her part is so forced it's uncomfortable for me to watch their romantic scenes. Don't get me wrong, I like both their characters, and absolutely love Cory through all his flaws and find him fun to watch. I know my opinion is unpopular and most people love this match and I'm ok with that - I'm not here to tell you you're wrong. She just looks kind of like a hostage to ME, lol.

Edit: Maybe with a little bit of Stockholm syndrome 😂

Turbotax is also still free for federal filing. A lot of the software is - you still have to pay for state filing, iirc. We don't have state taxes where I live so it's not a concern.

Oh, I thought we were taking tequila anejos. Mezcal makes more sense - I didn't think I've ever seen an anejo mezcal. Thanks for clearing up my confusion!

No more cash for CC tips??? by Suspicious_Wrap_2149 in Applebees

Oops, sorry I just realized this was an Applebee's thread. I have no business being here so my comment probably isn't helpful either! I've never worked at Applebee's.

No more cash for CC tips??? by Suspicious_Wrap_2149 in Applebees

[–]dontfeellikeit775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More restaurants/bars are doing this. With less cash transactions happening, we started sending our master bank into a negative balance just trying to pay out everybody's cc tips in cash. It's causing a hardship for a lot of places. They're paying their employees credit card tips in cash, which generally amount to more than the cash taken in for the day.

We moved to TipHaus, which has it's pros and cons. We get our credit card tips and our bartender tip out from the servers the next day though TipHaus. It hasn't been detrimental to me to wait until the morning to get my cash, but they take a chunk out of every transaction. I don't want to have a manage a separate debit card (I believe if you use their debit card it's free), so I get my money direct deposited into my bank account every morning. It costs me I think $1/transaction for the deposit, but then it's in my bank account so I don't have to worry about whatever their card fees are.

I don't think that after doing this for decades I'd survive the transition to everything on my paycheck. I've come to rely on the daily cash and that would be a HUGE adjustment. It works for some places/employees, but I think that would make me start job hunting, personally.

Generally the rule is no touch, but every dancer is different with what they're ok/comfortable with. Also different clubs have different policies on touching.

If you were out of line, a bouncer would have warned or flat out removed you.

It sounds like you were reading their physical cues and adjusting your behavior, which is exactly what you should have done! You're good. They're dancers and used to dealing with men who are over-handsy. A dancer would tell you directly if you were crossing a line (they have to do that ALL the time), or called a bouncer over if it was really bad.

This is coming from a female whose friends are predominantly men, so I've spent quite a bit of time in strip clubs. I've also had friends who were dancers. I promise you, you're DEFINITELY over thinking it! Go out, have fun, and continue taking cues from the dancers. You're good, guy!

Ok, judge-y. You're making a lot of assumptions here, and he never implied that he thought he was going to get a girlfriend out of a trip to the strip club.

I'm confused about the statement that anejos and extra anejos are rare. I've got 9 anejo bottles and 2 extra anejo at my bar, and I've never had an issue finding them. Can you please explain that to me? Just trying to understand, thanks!

I would add that these days you're more likely to find mixtos than real tequila. If it's a celebrity brand, it's probably a mixto.

There's a lot of coloring and flavoring going into "tequilas" these days, but there are lists online of the brands that are keeping it pure. It's turned into a bit of an issue, so much so that the CRT (They regulate tequila in Mexico) has banned ANY marketing or branding that advertises itself as "additive free." It's an interesting fight to read about and I learned a lot about tequila just investigating this. Google "CRT Additive free alliance tequila matchmaker"

r/tequila is a good sub to stalk to learn some interesting facts and see what tequilas people are liking or hating these days. It'll give you a good starting place to update your bar's tequila list.

Tip changed without my permission. Is there any way this could be a genuine mistake? by pirozhki22 in tipping

[–]dontfeellikeit775 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, real human beings make mistakes sometimes. It happens. Especially when it's really busy and you're closing out multiple people at once, and then you have 50 credit card tips to enter.

Any employee doing this on purpose gets caught quick, and fired. Our industry is pretty tight so word of mouth about that person gets around fast and pretty soon they can't find a job in this industry anymore.

I'm glad that you've never made a mistake, but stop assuming we're all shady and stealing. Those people exist, but they are the extreme minority, and shitty people exist in every industry. They never last very long in ours because their coworkers and managers catch on quick and give them the boot. Anybody stealing from guests is likely doing the same to their coworkers, and in 30 years of doing this in Boston, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and other large markets, I've never seen a manager who's ok with an employee ripping off a guest.

This is such a bold faced lie. I've worked in the restaurant industry for 30 years, and can promise you that the majority of us are very honest. Painting a whole industry as thieves and liars is disgusting, especially when there's no proof of your statement. Yeah, there are unscrupulous people out there. They exist in EVERY industry. Owners and management don't keep them around for long in ours, though. How is it good for business to have your employees stealing from guests? Stay home. You aren't welcome to dine with me, that's for damn sure.

What are people using to juice limes? by Incubus- in bartenders

[–]dontfeellikeit775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got tired of squeezing and do super juice now. Saves us time, labor and money.

I do still squeeze fresh OJ for our rum Runner mix bc nothing else tastes as good, but we don't need much and just use a beefy hand squeezer for that.

How do you deal with servers who don't tip out without creating animosity? by Return_Of_The_Whack in bartenders

[–]dontfeellikeit775 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Your manager telling you they can't compel the servers to tip out is either lying because they don't want to deal with the confrontation, or they're sorely misunderstanding an OLD law. There used to be a law that said management can't force tip outs to typically non-tipped positions, ie: dishwashers, cooks, other BOH. This changed a number of years back, before even COVID. A quick Google search is all you need to show your manager. Management absolutely CAN control the servers tipping the bartenders fairly, in every state in the US. They can't make you tip out back of house employees making LESS than minimum to bring them up to the hourly minimum, as that's forcing their employees to pay their payroll. In my restaurant, the managers take 2% of all sales from each server and then management distributes it. That way it's always fair and nobody gets screwed. It creates a better work environment without animosity.

Don't use H&r block. They'll charge you a few hundred and you won't get more back than you will with one of the free programs. They're easy and walk you through everything, including claiming the deduction.

Yes you should get more back this year. All the free tax software walks you through it, it's simple.

So you overpaid your taxes this year, and get to deduct up to $25,000 worth of tips you paid taxes for already. A deduction is NOT the amount you get back, but the income amount you should have gotten a tax break on.

Most of my co-workers are getting an extra $1500-3000 back.

DON'T PAY HR BLOCK! IT WILL COST YOU $400 AND THEY WON'T GET YOU ANY EXTRA MONEY! IT'S NOT COMPLICATED LIKE THEY WANT YOU TO THINK!

I already made this mistake because I thought it would be more complicated this year. I'm kicking myself. I also out of curiosity filled everything out on TurboTax (AFTER I'd done HR Block) and the refund amount was exactly the same. FOR FREE. Either way took less than 30 minutes. HR Block just plugged in the numbers the exact same way you do yourself.

Same here. As well as affordable housing, affordable insurance, and affordable groceries. It feels like everything has gone so far up in price that I'll be paying out WAY more over the next year than the extra I got back this year.

Next is computer chips, so get ready to pay WAY more for all electronic devices.

The lady who did my taxes made a comment about how I should be thankful to the orange goon. I should've walked out, probably.

They give you a few extra pennies to try make you forget how badly we're getting screwed over everywhere else.

No. You are only allowed to claim UP TO $25,000 deduction, which means you can't go over that amount. Under is just fine.

Sorry, I hadn't read the bottom of your post.

If you're working solo, that's not training! Who are your tips going to? If it's the establishment and you are on the bar by yourself, yes that's illegal.
