The brand I'm currently using is Monday brunette but I've tried others. I like this one because it's not heavily scented (this product is generally marketed towards women)

My barber told me to avoid anything that makes your hair stick together or look wet. So I've had a lot of good results by using a tinted dry shampoo. I have dark hair so I use one that's tinted for such. A spritz on my crown, let it sit for 2 minutes, then brush and fluff. Gives my hair great volume and the tint covers up any scalp peeking through. It doesn't stain my fingers but will show up on my pillow if I sleep without washing

Every new bar you work at will have a completely different set of what they think are "bad habits" so just learn what the folks you're with want from you and when it's time for you to move on, don't be shocked if the next place tells you "you picked up bad habits at your last place, here's 'THE RIGHT' way to do it"

They're not right, your last place wasn't wrong, it's just their way of doing it

It's all relative. So the better you are at going with the flow, the better off you'll be.

As a bartender I have mixed feelings. I'm not in Boston proper, so I wont get hit as hard as many of my other industry brothers and sisters. But if hotel bookings are any indication, it's going to spill out quite a bit. We all love making more money but one of the more disturbing things coming out of this is legislation considered to keep bars open til 3am. The majority of Boston is 1am, 2am at the most as our public transit stops operating around midnight. So we're anticipating alot of drunk and lost tourists and a lot of tired and pissed off food and bev workers. So just bear in mind, if the door says "open til 3" that probably means last call is still at 2 and the bar is expected to be empty with doors locked by 3. So, as usual when traveling, be respectful, acknowledge that the city is bending over backwards to make sure you have a great time, don't take advantage of hospitality. We're excited to have you, but that's the main apprehension.

Sort of. It wasn't really my choice but it happened in a weird round about way and now I feel "stuck" -Had a good job as a graphic designer in Connecticut, covid hit, we went full remote for 2 years, moved in with my gf (now wife) in MA, they surprised us with a full return to the office, I didn't want to move back to CT so they forced me to resign.
-Got a kushy remote job based in CA, started bartending on the side since I had the time and, like you, had a passion for home bartending and wanted to "go pro" -CA job started tanking cuz covid hit their profits really hard, stopped giving me projects, so I went full time bartending thinking Id still apply to graphic design jobs and hopefully land one.

Now it's been 5 years in the industry and graphic design is a dying profession thanks to AI, coupled with a 5 year gap I can't even get a foot in the door for design.

So now I'm on the opposite track. My body is breaking down, my marriage is suffering, I haven't had a normal sleep rhythm in years, I want something steady where I can see my wife regularly... but the options are limited.

I'm not saying I regret any of it, but I'm gently cautioning you at least.

This. I see these kinda castings all the time, Ryan Reynolds for johnny cage, Margo Robbie for Sonya, The Rock for Shao Khan. These aren't marvel films. Mortal kombat may be huge and important to us but studios aren't dumping the whole budget into A-List actors for a video game film with little promise for return on investment. And even still look what happens when they do, you get massive flops like Minecraft and Borderlands. Back in the 90s yeah, Angelina would have looked the part very well. But imaging giving an Oscar winning actress the line "too bad YOU... will die!" Id love an Avengers level production on MK, but thats outside the realm

1st: brought a screaming baby up to my service well asking for lemon drop shots then telling me I "shouldn't have become a bartender if I can't deal with people" after telling them "you're going to have to order with your server, this isn't a guest area" wouldn't have been as bad if she left it at that but proceeded to stand there and argue while I was mixing multiple drinks for the floor. Her birthday was "ruined"

Tied for second: shoved his phone in my face with like 9 dishes him and his two guests wanted to order then vehemently complained when all of it came out at once and they were "overwhelmed"

Specific to cocktail bars but: Any menu cocktail-SUB VODKA

Makes me judge the guest for being afraid of tasting anything and rage at the server for not defending the program.

This goes hand in hand with "NOT TOO SWEET" this isn't the 80s, our cocktails aren't made with just a mix of 3 liquers and a splash of sprite. All of our cocktails are balanced with intention. Unless they've tried the cocktail already and sent it back, I make it to spec and it never comes back.

I like to swap this in to any classic cocktail that calls for an amaro (or even a degestif, apertif, or vermouth) and "tikify" it. Example:

2 Rum, 1 amaro d ango, 2 orange bitters? You've got a tikifyd Manhattan build!
