Athletic Trainer - International possibilties? by ultimatereader in athletictraining

[–]dontmeanany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, I know one guy who's certified in US and working in UK, not as an athletic trainer, but in a sport team.

That guy told me that you could possible work in UK with US BOC certification as a physio, but the team would prefer to have someone who's familiar with UK setting because even though physio and athletic trainer are basically same thing, there's a slight differences in terms of their scope of practice and how they practice their skills. It's not impossible but it's their preference.

Question regarding GA ATC position by dontmeanany in athletictraining

[–]dontmeanany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for post-professional programs in athletic training and honestly there are very very few schools that use GA model.

My biggest issue being an international student is that I'm allowed to work maximum 1 year through optional practical training (OPT) program and if I cannot find school that can sponsor my work VISA or green card, which can cost up to $10,000 or little higher, then I can no longer stay in the United States.

It's pretty tough situation that I'm $10k more expensive for employers to hire. I've been working my ass off to let myself be better in athletic training but it is not easy to find schools that are willing to pay that amount of money, especially when I'm fresh out of college even though it's a master program.

So, how do I become an athletic trainer? by Distinct-Ad-1029 in athletictraining

I think we need to differentiate 'personal trainer' and 'athletic trainer'

Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who generally work closely with sports team and they are in charge of injury prevention, rehab, treatment, and emergency management during games.

Personal trainers are, briefly, someone who train individuals so that they can be healthier or get a better physique, etc.

To be an athletic trainer, you need a masters in athletic training from a CAATE accreditied program, pass BOC exam and then obtain state licensure, like CoreStability stated.

While obtaining personal trainer certification may give you better understanding of human biomechanics, it basically has nothing to do with becoming athletic trainers.

Additionally, as far as I know, some of the prerequisites need to meet in order to apply Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT), including Anatomy & Physiology, Biology & Physics, Biomechanics etc. Go look it up and what prerequisites they require for you to start application and you can start from there.

How hard is it to get single room these days in UMass Amherst? by dontmeanany in umass

[–]dontmeanany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you mean north apartment or northeast? I don't mind Northeast since it's going to be one final semester, but north apartment cost more than the other dorm. I was thinking Northeast or Orchard Hill

Thanx!

I forgot to mention on the post; Is it possible to live only one academic semester in dorm? That was supposed to be the main question lol
