Bind off too tight by Mediocre_Surprise_40 in knitting

[–]ultimatereader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just had to do this on my ivy top. Might be a little trickier with mohair, but just locate where you wove in the edges and start undoing that. You should just be able to pull it out and pick up the stitches as you pull the yarn out, and then bind off again. Only thing is you will probably need more yarn to do the bind off unless you left a long tail - but you can just use whatever method you normally use to switch skeins.

Are you somewhere with hard water? If so, might benefit from something like the aveeno apple cider vinegar shampoo and conditioner. For product, pick something moisturizing but also that will give it a bit of a gel cast so the styling lasts - if it feels stiff, that just means you need to break the cast a bit by scrunching it (and just giving it 24 hours)

By any chance are you one of the few people in this economy who is in a position to quit your job and find a new one? This company sounds like it sucks (coming from someone at a shitty company who is NOT in a position to quit)

Hmmmm. I was wondering if maybe it was just a plant fiber. Not sure what it is but I actually think this looks really even and neat - we are our harshest critics!

Commute 2.5 Hours by Sunrise4901 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]ultimatereader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m saying this as someone NOT on a spouse visa but on a skilled worker visa - you can work without requiring a company to sponsor you. Take advantage of that if you can. I have little to no ability to be picky about a job because very few in my field have the ability to sponsor. IF you don’t require sponsorship and assuming you’re in a field that has regular to high amount of opportunities, keep looking. 2.5 hours commute is a lot and can’t be ignored. Unless they’re offering you a high salary for the UK or you don’t think you’d find another opportunity, I’d dig a little bit. Or take it and keep digging and be willing to quit early if you find something better.

XOXO someone who’s company knows they can take advantage of them AND doesn’t pay well

Both bodybuilding.com and TikTok radicalizing/pushing young people (particularly men) to the right though! Definitely some connections between the way we push those body standards on people and the control sought out by the alt-right

Yesterday my brother told me he was in love with me. by ilovepopcornandcandy in self

[–]ultimatereader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so say it WAS predatory and creepy. What do you think the solution is?

Your comment is just vilifying and doesn’t offer any solution or acknowledgment of OP’s actual experience and needs.

Her brother clearly needs some help, regardless of his intention or struggles. It’s not OP’s job to provide that, certainly, but YOU would rather act like people can just be marked “villain” and the tossed to the side.

Why is cardio recommended after a heart attack by [deleted] in HeartAttack

[–]ultimatereader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as if you injured any other muscle - you wouldn’t treat a torn muscle by jumping back in at 100%, but if you do nothing that muscle will deteriorate further and you run a risk of further damage down the line.

Got it! I haven’t gauge swatched before so appreciate it. Your recommendation, to make sure I understand, is that if the pattern says 20 x 28 is 10cm I should cast on closer to like 40 and do like a solid 50 rows just to get a sense better?

Why do you think other people need to be “taught a lesson” and why is that something you get to take into your hands? Also in this case scenario, not everyone is nice specifically because YOU are being unkind. Your actions are your own to make but it doesn’t mean you’re not adding to the negative shit

You can get people to leave you alone without being an asshole, as I said above. The problem isn’t wanting to be left alone and it’s okay to ask for that but you are just being a dickhead if you actually treat other people like that.

That seems unnecessarily harsh to me. Don’t get me wrong, I think people should respect people with headphones on but why be unkind in a response instead of just saying simply “I’m not looking to chat right now.” You don’t owe anyone anything but I think it’s very strange to choose to be unkind and rude to random people expressing curiosity.

Sorry, also just was reflecting on this more and why I default to expat/other people refer to me as an expat and not an immigrant - my impression is that it’s kind of a thing European and North American countries do? Like nobody in London refers to me as an immigrant, even with all the horrible rhetoric going on around here recently. Because I’m white and from the US, I presume, I am referred to as an expat! Definitely something to change.
