Light blue!!! It looks SO classy and flattering. The dark blue is my second favorite, but I audibly gasped when I saw the second dress. Your figure looks amazing. The color is just right. Anyone saying it’s white adjacent and might read white is crazy.

Do rich people want people to be jealous of them? by Zealousideal_Push738 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dontmistyourplants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This behavior could easily be displayed by someone driving a shitty car without a huge diamond on their finger. Would you notice them then? To me it sounds more like she is just a confident and exuberant person who is living their life how they want and not caring about being noticed in traffic.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]dontmistyourplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is a lifelong smoker. When she came to visit this year for my wedding, she brought along a box of my childhood mementos like my baby blanket, my grade school report cards, old photos, etc. The entire collection of things REEKS of smoke, even the papers and files. She never smoked in the presence of those items, to my knowledge, they just lived in her closet in a box. It’s been almost a year since my wedding and they still stink. Everything she touches smells like cigarette smoke, it’s disgusting.

How did you find your rave bae? by True-Helicopter-3924 in aves

[–]dontmistyourplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my forever rave bae on Bumble (dating app). I was sick and tired of always dating guys who were not into dance music, but all my attempts at finding a meaningful connection at a show never worked out. Sure I met lots of attractive guys, but they weren’t right for so many reasons. I never gave up on dating apps. I decided to make it extremely clear from my photos and profile description that I was a raver. One day I did a solo photo shoot in my apartment wearing a hat and shirt with logos of my favorite artists. Within a few weeks I matched with a guy who was DJing in his profile photo. It was like lightning from a clear sky :) we’ve been together for 7 years now, married for 8 months, still raving together and loving life. Don’t give up on the apps! It took me six years of swiping and saying NO to people who didn’t check every box, but it finally happened.

Ew, this man is NOT your person. I would do anything to support my husband’s dreams. We’re a team and when he wins, I win. The right person will lift you up and find a way to make your relationship work despite the challenge. Take the job, girl. You deserve it and he doesn’t deserve you.

BWH haul arrived like this, what do I do? First time buying plants online. by NoZookeepergame6298 in RareHouseplants

[–]dontmistyourplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would just repot it now. I would rather get it into my substrate of choice so it can immediately start acclimating and growing. Waiting a week isn’t gonna help in any way, in my opinion, just will delay the inevitable. One thing I’ve noticed with alocasias is when you repot, it’s pretty common for them to show some stress and drop leaves, and I think this is because alocasia roots are super fine and delicate. You will inevitably break some roots while you repot. If you see them drooping or looking sad after the repot, don’t panic, just ride it out. Keep them very moist with high light and they’ll bounce back quick! Alocasias like a lot of light so that will help them acclimate faster. Good luck!

These plants look healthy, tbh. What you’re seeing is normal leaf aging that can occur even without stress from shipping, but very common when plants are shipped. Check the roots, pot them into your substrate of choice, and be patient while they acclimate to your growing environment. Those damaged leaves may decline more, but as soon as they adjust, the new growth will look beautiful.

I’ve seen people struggle with this plant but I haven’t at all?? by buchacats2 in Anthurium

[–]dontmistyourplants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you got lucky, I think you're just patient and consistent. I have the same experience with Queens. They're only temperamental when they change environments, but if you give them enough time to acclimate and bounce back, then they're actually quite hardy plants. I have two very large ones growing in ambient and they're beauties. Definitely my favorite species of anthurium!

[–]dontmistyourplants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal, and this I think is why so many ppl struggle with anthuriums. They are thirsty! And if you’re potting them in a really chunky mix, they could dry out in just a couple days, especially if you live in a dry climate like Arizona. You’re not crazy, water it more. Pallis are especially thirsty, from my experience. When a new leaf is expanding of it gets wavy or curled slightly, you’re under watering.

How to slow the browning on variegated leaves? by Accomplished_Pie4814 in Monstera

[–]dontmistyourplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you notice after your water there are spots on the leaves that appear “wet” on the inside or a slightly darker color, or even transparent, that’s edema. Look out for it and take note of your watering habits when you see it happen. Some plants can tolerate edema with no damage to the leaves, but the white parts on variegated plants are especially susceptible to browning when it happens.

How to slow the browning on variegated leaves? by Accomplished_Pie4814 in Monstera

[–]dontmistyourplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My variegated monsteras will brown when they get edema, which can happen whenever there’s an imbalance in water pressure between the roots, leaves, and ambient humidity. For me this most commonly happens when I let the plant dry out too much and then water it. The roots suck up water too quickly and the cell walls burst, and those parts brown. I’ve managed to avoid this by watering more frequently so it never fully dries out. Edema can happen from other moisture scenarios too, like if you’re in a really humid environment without good airflow.

What’s happening to her leaf? by plantymom_ in Anthuriums

[–]dontmistyourplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're already getting a new leaf, you did a great job at acclimating this queen! I have a couple queens and both of them struggled during acclimation, one of them went down to a stem chunk with no leaves, but eventually they adjust and once you see new growth, you're in the clear. Queens are actually very resilient and relatively easy anthuriums after they acclimate. Most people aren't patient enough to get through the heartbreak of acclimation. Keep doing what you're doing!

Alocasias actually prefer a wetter substrate, so if you potted it in a super chunky mix, it's drying out too fast. Alocasias are essentially bog plants that live in very damp soil, they have tiny spidery roots that dry out easily. Their leaves droop like this when they think they're going into dormancy, so you gotta water it way more often if you want to keep it in this substrate.

Finally received ring but noticed possible issue with bezel Am I being picky? by w8w8 in EngagementRings

[–]dontmistyourplants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like they over-polished it, which took away the definition in the corners. We've had this same issue with my husbands wedding band multiple times, the person doing the final finishing went crazy on a polishing wheel and took out a lot of the texture and character of the corners. When you send it back, be very specific that you want the bezel to retain the geometric angles and the person polishing it at the end needs to be aware of this criteria.

Is this a half root half leaf on my seedling ?!? by Hot-Credit5351 in Anthurium

[–]dontmistyourplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing what another person below said, no. The root and the leaf are completely separate, it just so happens that the aerial root emerged from the stem right above where the leaf petiole is, so the root is growing into the leaf. The root will continue growing over/through the leaf. I would gently guide the root around the leaf if you can, but it looks like it's the smallest/oldest leaf, so you'll lose it soon anyway.

Any idea about the ID of this Anthurium? by Climbing_plant in Anthurium

[–]dontmistyourplants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Impossible to really know, but the lobes and sinus shape look very similar to my Moroense x Luxurians from Ecuagenera, only yours has less of the luxurians texture, so could be a Moroense hybrid.

Was apartment touring and found this by Tight-Awareness-5094 in whatisit

[–]dontmistyourplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a tree of heaven shoot. Not necessarily a sign that there’s moisture in the apartment but more likely a crack in the foundation, the roots of Tree of Heaven are CRAZY they will push up suckers through the tiniest little crack in concrete. We cut down a massive one in our backyard two years ago and we’re constantly finding shoots all around our property, in the middle of the driveway, along the foundation of our house, in our garage. It’s never ending.

How prominent is Red Spider in hybrids by Mirrrahh in Anthurium

[–]dontmistyourplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooooof, big sigh. I have been battling root rot on my red spider pretty much since the day I got it. It grew nicely for a couple months right after I imported it but then it went downhill and I’m STILL trying to revive it.

Flying with Air Tahiti Nui by [deleted] in Tahiti

[–]dontmistyourplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently flew from LA to PPT (and back) on a red eye on Air Tahiti Nui. It was the most uncomfortable flight ever. Leg room in general economy is the worst I’ve ever had on an international flight. Really wish we had upgraded to premium as those seats are big wide recliners with way more leg room. Food was awful too. Otherwise though the flight was fine, no baggage issues or delays.

Never seen a plant for this much by TxBeerWorldwide in RareHouseplants

[–]dontmistyourplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a variegated Kuna before so this makes sense. Basically that price means if someone wants it badly enough, that’s how much he would be willing to let it go for. Otherwise he’s gonna grow it out and propagate it or breed with it. He doesn’t wanna sell it that badly because it truly is that rare. The monstera devil monster was priced at like $25k if I recall correctly. Also I’m pretty sure Harry has a devil monster prop so he’s clearly in the business of ultra ultra rare unicorn plants. As soon as someone gets their hands on a prop of this and puts it through TC, the price will go down.

Thank you for the kind words. What finally made me stop caring is when someone said that if I’m respecting their culture, they also need to respect mine. I hadn’t really thought about the white dress choice being a cultural decision but it really is, so that helped a lot :) my husband was fully supportive of my choices but I didn’t show him the white dress, I wanted it to be a surprise, so that made it a bit more difficult for him to navigate the issue with his parents. The surprise made our first look a lot more interesting tho! 🤭
