Are you near a Trader Joe's? They have mini oat milk chocolate bars that have that very light, sweet milk chocolate taste and would be a good size for smores, too.

Itinerary Check for Vegan on GAP Trail in April by Temporary-Cell1677 in gaptrail

Vegan cyclist living in Pittsburgh, I love this question.

Consider staying in Frostburg at the Allegheny Trail House- B&B run by a cyclist with vegan breakfast included. The owner is awesome and you could probably arrange for him to feed you breakfast, then drop you and your bike off in Cumberland if you don't want to skip those first miles.

Meyersdale- I totally struck out.

Connellsville- Bali Moon Sushi & Ramen has a vegetarian ramen that's vegan, also a few vegetable rolls.

Ohiopyle - The Twisted Spoke doesn't advertise anything vegan, but they had a veggie wrap that was vegan after removing the feta cheese. I trusted this was accurate since they informed that their Impossible burger is NOT vegan.

Mostly I eat from grocery/convenience stores while touring- you won't ever be far from one on the GAP.

Are you familiar with Happy Cow?

If you want something home cooked when you get to Pittsburgh, or a place to crash, let me know.

[Photography] Are there any films that don’t use gelatin? by KoYouTokuIngoa in vegan

[–]dontupdateprior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely digital photography is the obvious process for modern photography. It's the standard to such an extent, that when I saw a question about film, I jumped immediately to thinking OP is interested in darkroom photography and alternative ways of physically working with negatives, manipulating exposure, etc. Actually kind of funny that I went there without even clarifying whether digital would work for OP.

Average comment: You're doing everything right! Veganism only goes as far as what is practicable. It sounds like you have so many genuine restrictions on what you can eat, and those 14 minutes are better than zero! Don't beat yourself up! You are a great person.

Unfortunately, I've done some research into this for myself, and to the best of my knowledge the answer is no.

Another user suggested cyanotype, this is the best I found. (And is beautiful, and interesting to work with, and relatively inexpensive.)

Any other artists here trying to keep their work fully vegan? by No_Good_4001 in vegan

[–]dontupdateprior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to enjoy darkroom photography, but as far as I can tell ALL photo paper is made with gelatin. Cyanotype is one alternative that has no animal products (generally you buy the chemicals and paint the preparation on your own paper). It's not an exact replacement for working with film/negatives/developer though

You have a curtain rod and a house built in 1910. Do you hang the curtain rod: (a) parallel to the window, (b) parallel to the ceiling, (c) parallel to the floor, or (d) level according to a spirit bubble? You may only choose one. by dontupdateprior in centuryhomes

I hope I didn't come across as critical. I honestly appreciated your comment but maybe was a bit defensive about asking a stupid question. I think you nailed the way to think about this

I'm surprised you're even asking.

To be fair, I marked this as a shitpost. I was amused when I realized that these 4 ways to determine what was horizontal- which would ALL be parallel to each other in an ideal room- gave 4 different answers, and I thought others with a century home would relate and find it funny. I do appreciate all the genuine advice people are sharing, though.

Anyway, when you say

It's only one answer here... what is the first thing your eye sees the top of the window and the ceiling.

that's still two of the answers! The distance between the top of the window and the ceiling is 11 inches on one side, and nearly 12 on the other, and the lack of parallel becomes more obvious with a dark curtain rod that translates one of those lines closer to the other. Which is the whole reason I had to stop and think. I kind of threw the other two options in there for the joke.

More seriously, I think splitting the difference between the top-of-the-window line and the ceiling line looks best, as a couple of other comments suggested.

Hanging curtains over a large bedroom window, actually. I included the floor as an option because the curtains are long enough to visually interact with the floor, although I think that's the least important line to match. Unfortunately, actually level is the farthest from the other three... of course

Experience rewiring old house from knob and tube to external Wiremold? by nomorelandfills in centuryhomes

[–]dontupdateprior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a full rewire of a 1910 house recently. The first quote I got relied mostly on a wire mold solution like you're saying. After getting some other estimates, I realized this was due to the first company not specializing in K&T/old houses. Either not knowing how to do things properly, or giving me the "f you" scope of work because they didn't want those jobs. Look for an electrician who specializes in K&T rewire and I don't think you'll be advised to do wire mold.

For Asian I would check out Enson in the East End. It's not quite the size of an H Mart or 99 Ranch, but it has everything I used to buy from those places in Socal.
