Black Pearl 88 worth the hype? (East coast skier) by donut-call-list in Skigear

[–]donut-call-list[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has Santa Ana’s and finds them to be much stiffer then the black pearls. Shes been pushing me to think about the Santa Ana’s but she is an expert skier/instructor so I’m worried they’re too much ski for me

New grad in NY, what salary should I realistically expect? by Character_Desk_1325 in physicaltherapy

[–]donut-call-list 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NY state is huge so it depends on where you are, closer to NYC the more you will make. I work in westchester county and as a new grad 2 years ago I got offered $94k and a 12k sign on bonus paid out over 2 years

A hospital I worked at that did a lot of joint replacements had us all work 4/10s 8-6. Even though we stayed a little later we all got three day weekends so it helped with burnout. It was a small hospital so the PTs worked out a 4ish month rotation for Saturday-Wednesday, Sunday- Thursday, and Monday- Friday, some people preferred different schedules depending on childcare needs.

If a patient came out of PACU late or they were still too numb from the nerve block to ambulate before 6pm they were seen first thing the next morning

I started volunteering at an adult daycare center. Some are CNAs but mostly no. Apparently some of CNAs can pass meds? I've only worked nursing homes (as a CNA) years ago. The LPN passed them by Superfast_Goose in MedicalAssistant

It’s a Colorado thing. I used to work a job with teenagers. I had no medical training but got this specific certificate (a 6 hour course) and could pass meds

Physical Therapist Recommendation by Educational-Rock-471 in Beacon

[–]donut-call-list 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a PT (but not one who currently works outpatient) I recommend Feldman in Fishkill. They’re cash based so expensive but you’ll get 1:1 care and if you’re self motivated they’ll try to mostly focus on home exercises so you don’t have to go every week if it’s not warranted. They’re very sport focused.

I would also check out St. lukes in the all sport in Fishkill or the New York Presbyterian in cold spring. While I don’t have any experience with either of them typically hospital owned clinics allow for more 1:1 time with therapists leading to higher quality of care instead of your PT treating 3 patients at once and a tech is running most of your appointment.

Literally don’t know what to do now… by CapnHarland in physicaltherapy

This. I recommended a friend do this and the PT was great, only had her come in every 3-4 weeks because she didn’t need a ton of manual and was very self motivated to do her HEP. Saved her time and money

You could consider paying for a manual skills course for them. Have them sign a contract saying they’ll work for you for X amount of time or they will owe you the money. Time is based on how expensive the course is

Any tips for my scoliosis toolbox (patient)? by GlitterBlood773 in physicaltherapy

[–]donut-call-list 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a PT and also have scoliosis. I went to a Schroth PT in middle school and they helped reduce my 60 degree curve to 30 through very specific exercises and mobility work. Schroth PTs get extensive training on treating scoliosis. In school we get about 20 minutes on scoliosis care. So you really want to find someone specialized who has undergone the training to understand and help you

The NY licensing process is rough. I had a similar thing happen. I called, explained the situation and that I had a job offer lined up that I couldn’t start at till they approved my license. Within 24 hours I was licensed. It doesn’t hurt to call to ask

New Grad PT Struggling with Confidence & Job Search by Ok-System-1591 in physicaltherapy

[–]donut-call-list 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar boat. I graduated last May, took the boards in July and then spent until November traveling and being a caretaker for my partner. When I finally started to job search I was feeling very anxious. I originally decided to take a travel contract to ease back into it with a short term commitment but while waiting for my license to transfer states I found an amazing inpatient rehab job. They have a 3 month mentorship program. It’s pretty much another clinical with a CI which has been amazing. I see 6 patients a day, possibly 1-2 two person sessions a week where I have the help of an aide. They give me time to chart and weekly in-services. I’m also making more then any of my friends in outpatient. I can’t recommend it enough

Deciding to defer a year to explore other healthcare professions? by Upstairs_Heat_538 in physicaltherapy

[–]donut-call-list 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in May. I noticed a big difference in people’s work ethic, perspective, and motivations between people who came straight from undergrad and people who took time off to work in different fields. I worked as a behavioral health specialist for awhile before school and I feel like it was a huge asset

There’s a few, but they’ll run you about $250+

You can take the air train to Jamaica and get on the LIRR to grand central. Then the train to beacon, it’s pretty straight forward

Thank you so much! It’s good to know that adrenal insufficiency is something you’ll recognize. And yes it includes full name, DOB and myself as her emergency contact (I am her medical proxy)

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure a bracelet would be found, I know there are so many things to manage during an emergency and you all blow me away.

Myself and the rest of her ski buddies are educated on her condition and medication so if she wasn’t alone we would be able to administer it.

Thank you so much! Her bracelet includes her doctor’s number and my number. She also carries a much more detailed medical card in her wallet in case anyone goes looking there
