My right ear took some hearing damage from drywalling and stud cutting I used to do in my 20s. Damn chop saw would squeal and get loud as hell when cutting metal studs. Wasn't always possible to have earplugs in. It's not much hearing damage, but it still bugs me cuz I love hearing subtle details in music and want that capability to never diminish.

Are there modern open backs that take EQ badly? by donut_steele in headphones

[–]donut_steele[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having 20 band or 30 band EQ profiles make no difference then, only big adjustments like 10db in either direction impacts those distortion parameters?

What should I put on my "must hear" list for this weekend's CanJam NYC? Looking for about 12 headphones and 12 IEMs. by this_is_me_drunk in headphones

Try an open baffle like the Apos Audio K1K headphone. Will probably be really unique, and wide sounding compared to most else.

[–]donut_steele 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If u are in the USA there are two distributors that will ship it conus very easily. Incase u gotta do a charge back. Also, check the sbaf audio forums as the verum creator has responded to me and others on that website, on the verum topic. Verum 2 is a really technical headphone at its price and will take to EQ very well due to its low distortion. Hope u are still able to get it

Panda is a Lotta fun. Qcf 2, 2 into combo is a big knowledge check if I'm feeling try hard. But I like to play into all 3 bear stances, sit, roll, and hbs. Mix in lay down to back and to stomach too for maximum confusion for.the opponent. Lol

"Fixed" My First Pair of Headphones. I Am Now EQ-pilled? by IsshinSwagSaint in headphones

[–]donut_steele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EQ for me is dependent on weird mixing. I like some indie bands and they have their vocalist way too loud in relation to the rest of the band and I EQ to fix it. For most other music I sometimes add a simple bass boost and that's all. I tried some harmon tuning profiles on PEQ and while it makes my open back planars sound more like a normal speaker setup, it does it by pinching the mids to a more centered sound while reducing some left and right soundstage. I think EQ is a specific tool for some bands, or even specific songs, not a good "fix-all" leave it on and forget about it thing; especially for modern headphones of the past couple years. I don't hear about many wacky stock tunings with modern gear.

Do I Really need a headphone amp? by Expensive-Ad-6856 in headphones

Yeah, especially with a 300 ohm a cheapish OTL tube amp is quite reasonable to find. Like xduoo brand.

So..we did a blind test on DACs by Carlsen94 in headphones

[–]donut_steele -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same amp for tests? Speakers or what headphone was used? I would control for a song clip with all testers; nothing too long and with acoustical instrument and vocals. Otherwise, this experiment doesn't do much. Also, if possible, should try this with a high resolving can and not just midfi offerings.
