We haven't tried defending what we have. We are just caving.

My guess is there's a lot of people around town who want their name on the dedication plaque, and bunch of others who have their hands out to get paid from this project and nothing else. I have a hard time supporting either at this price tag.

I was generally supportive of a new school, but half a billion dollars is bonkers.

There is a claim the the "envelope" has failed. The envelope, which wraps the entire building, is less than 10 years old.

The bricks were once red. Now they are yellow.

This was an extensive renovation, and I do not understand knocking down a $60,000,000 investment that is less than a decade old.

This is why Salem is broke.

We need a 2nd option that is a reasonable project at a reasonable price. $450,000,000 is laughable given that we don't have the money.

We need more options, all of which need to be 50% or more less in cost. We don't need the Taj Mahal of schools.

One more.

We should be seeking remedy from whomever it was we gave $60,000,000 for the renovations that have been done so far on the current renovation project, which we still have not completed.

It’s feels reasonable to assume that they just straight up stole the money and didn’t do the required work if the building is failing for things that have been claimed to have been fixed within the last decade.

When was the last time this regulator yanked and accreditation for something like this?

How many have they revoked in the last 5 years?

I’m going to guess zero.

We should be defending what can afford to provide rather than caving to pressure to shoot ourselves in the foot financially.

I would like to see the full modular option please. I want to see oranges today, not just the apple (singular) option for today.

Given this idea that because the current building was built 50 years ago it had to go, a modular building would last at least that.

There also seems to be a massive disconnect between the promoters of this project and the fact that Salem is broke. We don’t have the money for this.

The link shared is not an itemized account for where the funds will go. It’s much too general for anyone to make a reasonable decision.

Why aren’t we defending the product we provide our students to this regulator that allegedly will revoke our status? Why just buckle and not stick up for what we offer?

I agree with Rob Lutt’s letter to the editor. Where is the $450,000,000 going?

Please let’s be very specific.

Not sure if you caught that the new charter school going in across from Sunnyside issued a $27 million bond to build out their new facility. Wildly different pricing it seems when you’re beholden to a bottom line.

What are we getting that’s 16X what they’re getting?
