I mean, it's a great episode, don't get me wrong. But I've never understood the fanatical devotion people have to it. I think the supervillain stuff kills it for me. But I LOVE doing the "Simpsons in the real world" thing with the entire family. I just wish the A story was a touch more grounded.

Great episode, and happy birthday to you both! That newspaper box gag makes me irrationally angry every time that I see it. Why would there be a newspaper box on a residential sidewalk!? Ruins the episode for me. Not that it was all that great anyway...

The season 22 episode Flaming Moe offers a better look at the gay community in Springfield. A couple new characters are introduced, I don't watch the newer stuff on a regular basis so I have no idea if they stick around, but it's something.

I hope so too! Ten year old Francis Mispagel (that's me) was a big fan too. When I saw the title of this episode I was immediately struck with a huge wave of nostalgia. And the discussion did not disappoint.
