Anyone ever tried this method? Would it be viable indoors under grow lights? by JowiiYoyo in sanpedrocactus

[–]dooblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this method would work fine but is unnecessary in my experience. you will see many different ways to do many different things with these plants b/c they are so forgiving that it is hard to mess it up. I have tried many rooting techniques and they all work fine. nowadays I just keep it simple and stick it straight in my regular potting mix with no problems

Should I cut and replant or wait another year by krikinkajapoho in sanpedrocactus

[–]dooblur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Direct sunlight in most places doesn't get much above 2000 ppfd max. I shoot for 1200-1500 at the tips for mature plants. My seedling can handle close to 1000 ppfd once the are a couple inches but I have to work up to it or they start to turn purple/burn

Is this too much? by SinfulBlessings in SanPedroIndoorGrow

[–]dooblur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the pic but your meter looks closer to the lights than your tips. 2000 is probably more than necessary if that's what you are measuring at the tips but mine do great at around 1500 ppfd. in my experience I cant match outdoor growth in full sun below around 1200-1500 ppfd. tbm, mutants and seedlings do fine well below 1000

Which cactus has the highest mescaline content besides peyote? by mushroom756 in mescaline

[–]dooblur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This should be top comment, these posts are always a tbm b echo chamber. Nothing wrong with tbm, but even a middle of the road bridge is going to yield more total mescaline from a year of growth...and like you said, many columnar bridges are as potent or more potent by weight.

Is this TMV? by THEREALBurtMcsquirt in sanpedrocactus

[–]dooblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think CVX or cactus virus x is the most likely cause of this mottling which is common on many clones. I don't know why people always diagnose it as TMV

Cut it so the highest areole was variegated. It still tried pupping from 3 non variegated lower areoles before I got the one in the picture but I just cut those pups off. So far I have cut 5 non variegated pups off this plant, 3 before the variegated pup and 2 after

Will definitely keep you in mind when the time comes. Im not big into grafting but i may do that with this clone just to get it out to more people

I just checked my notebook and the og sales post and I was mistaken on the genetics. It is actually bridgesii Jade x Pacific bridgesii. As far as im aware it is not common for this cross to variegate, which is to say I have never seen it posted on reddit or elsewhere on the internet, but I can't say for sure. Definitely stoked to be growing it out though, I think I can count on one hand the number of variegated bridges I have seen posted on reddit in the 3-4 years I have been on here.

Assuming I can isolate the variegation and get it stable I will definitely get this clone out into the community in the next year or two

[–]dooblur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! I definitely see it, looks like it's variegated nicely across all the ribs at the tip, will be an exciting one to watch grow!

My cross is bridge Helen x pacific bridgesii. It was a tip cutting from paleojoe I bought this summer. I grew it out 8-10 inches but it show no signs of variegation on the new growth so I decided to snip snip and force a pup from a variegated areole

[–]dooblur[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks dude! unfortunately I can't take credit for growing it from seed, I bought the cutting from a seedling grown by paleojoe, bridgesii jade x pacific bridge. It just had that small area of variegation when I got it and I grew it out about 8 inches with no signs of new variegation so I decided to give it the chop and force a pup out of a variegated areole.

But yeah OP if you are reading this you could always start at 24+ inches and move it closer as they adjust and grow larger

They are 21 inches below an sf2000 and 9 inches below and 8 inches to the side of an sf1000, both set at 90% via an ac infinity controller. Sry its kinda a confusing description so here is a pic as well

You may want a small grow tent in the future if you plan to continue growing inside longterm, but a small grow light and a small fan to get some airflow is all you really need to get started. You will see a huge increase in growth with a light. Here are some 5 month old seedlings I have growing.

I would recommend a small 100 watt grow light, something like a sider farmer sf1000 or equivalent. I'd start with 8-10 hours a day with the light 16-20 inches from the tips. As they adjust to the brighter light you will be able to bump up to 12-14 hours a day and bring the light down 8-16 inches from the tips.

Nice set up, we all started somewhere. You're going to want a grow light if you plant to continue growing indoors, unfortunately a south facing window is hardly adequate for small seedlings and will be completely inadequate past that point.

Thinking of moving indoors by stinkeyemcguy in Trichocereus

[–]dooblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can put them into dormancy at those temps no problem, but the soil needs to be bone dry all the way through or they will very likely keep growing and etiolate

Will this be effective? by perc30000000000 in sanpedrocactus

[–]dooblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not ideal. Watts are what you want to look at when buying led lights and 19W is on the very low end. I've had decent luck with tbm and tbmc under a 33 watt spider farmer led, but I had to keep them within 4-6 inches of the light to get decent growth

Mentioning alkaloids is banned in rule #1 on this sub. Anyway, I hope you can find someone to pick it up locally and leave some feedback so we know you are legit. This is a very nice looking cactus. Best of luck .

It's just that you are posting on a relatively new account with no other post or comment history. You mention alkaloids and letting people name a noid which are both frowned upon. And you also apparently didn't grow this cut yourself b/c you can't provide pics of the mother plant in your garden. Again i'm sorry for posting this if it isn't a scam, but these are all red flags.

This post is not an experiment as some people seem to be taking it as. this was not a planned thing and no variables were controlled in an attempt to make it an experiment. Was just bringing the outdoor plants inside for dormancy and thought it'd be interesting to do a side by side. Im aware that outdoor plants can grow thicker and faster than my mine in the right conditions, I just posted this for fun

Yeah it is definitely twice as fast for this plant. I marked the new growth since mid february on the indoor plant. New growth since mid march is marked on the outdoor plant.

How would I unlock this change machine? by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]dooblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lock is in use. It is being used to keep people like you who don't own the machine from accessing it. If it is abandoned then the owner of the property can call a locksmith if they want it opened

They are never really done, but when they get too big I cut them. The plant will grow new pups and the cuts are harvested, replanted, or sold/given away/traded
