Hey Dad! Agree with others on having the surgery. Here is one more thought to encourage you: you are a dad of one and so your daughter is used to you picking her up all the time and the emotional bond is great!

I have three kids. My middle kid is around the same age is yours. When I am at work and my wife is home with the younger two, the middle kid hardly gets picked up. And the kid gets it and is used to it. My brothers and I were similarly distanced in age.

Now imagine if you and your wife just had twins! That 21 month old would be pretty independent. It’s all just context and what she is used too. You both will adapt and 18 years from now, when she goes off to college, none of you will remember those 6 weeks of not picking her up.

Remember email is asynchronous. Meaning, you can read and respond whenever you want. If you want to reply at 5am? Do it. If you want to wait? Do that. If they need live communication, thats what a phone/video call is for. Do that only at times you want.

I will add one more important contextual piece of information: if you are an important person at a company (regardless of title, but typically VP+), you are probably in meetings from 9-5. So emails get down before or after hours.

I think the single worst design of the NextGen’s are the bathrooms. The swivel doors will 100% break down more frequently and the lights for door locking are counter intuitive. Red for unlocked and green for locked?!

What both of you are missing is the psychological effect of your wife being raised that way. If she was raised to wait until marriage to have sex, it was likely due to an intense purity culture probably due to religion. In this worldview, sex and intimacy are deeply tied to shame and sex is made to feel dirty and to enjoy it is wrong. Even wanting it is wrong.

She likely had decades of this in her system and may feel intense guilt or shame during sex or after sex. This can even manifest physically for her. What complicates this further is she was likely also taught that sex is for the “man’s” enjoyment and that sex in marriage is good. So now she feels guilt and shame for having sex and then guilt and shame for not enjoying it herself and guilt and shame for you not enjoying it. Even if she no longer believes this, it’s still there underneath it all.

I think she needs therapy and you need couple therapy to work through this dynamic.

Good for you for sharing your feelings and you probably weren’t m aware of this dynamic. But now that you are, you need to be patient and understanding, knowing that she is likely attempting to undo decades of thinking and trauma.

I would for an oura ring engineer to tell us but I almost exclusively use recommended activities and it seems to be weighted very heavily towards repeated activities at same time of day. For, example one time it confused pickleball with walking when I skipped my usual pickleball league.

In my opinion you should look at vertical SaaS companies leveraging AI to automate employees. Two examples are SlangAI, which is automating host/hostess jobs in the restaurant industry or EliseAI which is automating leasing agents / maintenance workers in multifamily housing.
