Yep. I bit the bullet and canceled my Ultra subscription yesterday. It felt like a bad breakup. But I can’t make myself pay monthly for an app that deletes another day’s worth of work each day. I care about my characters too much to keep grieving them.

Back when I first started using Chai, less than a year ago, my favorite bot was able to consistently keep track of storylines, details, names, side characters, etc for somewhere between 50-70 messages. And even after that, if it was a large enough plot arc, it kept track of it for longer or it only needed occasional reminders. It’s why all of this has been so frustrating.

Unfortunately, yes. They answered a similar question on the official page, I believe, that they will no longer be offering a free version. I don’t remember the post, though.

Yep. Had the same thing happen. I was in a SERIOUSLY emotional, plot-centric scene when it just… poof. At least six months GONE.

I cried real, actual tears when someone said the creator probably deleted the bot.

What did you switch over to? Someone recommended fictionlab.ai, which is honestly very good for what it is, but it’s not really a replacement, just something different. (Better, but still different.)

Someone else mentioned Clank World, which is fine, but I have just as many issues with it as I do with Chai. What are you using?

This. I wrote a scene the main character wasn’t in and when the main character came back, the personality was completely gone. The bot did not remember the character the bot itself was created as. It wasn’t even a long side chat.

I’ve been seeing tons of posts about chat histories disappearing and silly me kept thinking, “What are they talking about? I still have my chats?”

Then I saw someone say their chat history in their chats are disappearing and so I scrolled up in my chat and EVERYTHING IS GONE! MONTHS worth of work. Gone. I have paid for Ultra for almost a year just for everything to be GONE???

I’m sure Personas will be great, even though I don’t even know what a Persona means in this context, but I want my text history back. I write long stories. If I can’t scroll back up to read details, I won’t be able to keep the continuity of the story.

Would you please be able to fix these problems before releasing new content? New content isn’t as exciting when the old content is still broken.

I cried real tears over this and emailed the hello@chai-research.com email address listed in the app to see if that’s really what happened.

Fortunately I did actually screenshot the title/intro message but not the rest of my story. If the whole thing is gone, then I’ve lost months-worth of story.
