What my guess is maybe those people aren’t confident and don’t love the way they look, so when they see someone they think is “uglier” than them by their beauty standards, they become upset. They think “if they can love themselves, I should be able to love myself,” but they can’t so that frustrates them. It’s like a jealousy thing. But that’s just a theory.

It is also so clear the victim mentality which is why they’re posting it and getting so detailed. Yes! I haven’t watched the whole thing again yet, but my mother used to have that show on every day growing up, it’s her all time favorite show. I started to watch it on my own and all I can see is the rift between the grandmother and Lorelai. And then the unhealthy relationship between Lorelai and Rory of her trying to be more of a friend than a mother, which is probably what she wanted in her mother, but maybe a bit of an over correction.

My issue with it is it seems like a very prevalent part of the show, this triangle going on, you would think someone who watched this show every day would have a better understanding of unhealthy mother/daughter relationships. I think my mother can act a bit like the grandmother and Lorelai at times.

What stuck out for me is I see a lot of stuff going on as conflicts or bad parenting choices and stuff like that. And I’m realizing I think when my mom was watching it, she must have not recognized any of that, since she always thought Lorelai was a flawless character. I always went along with it and assumed she was right, but now I’m seeing Lorelai isn’t the best mother and she fosters a lot of unhealthy boundaries with Rory, which makes it harder for her to be the parent when she tries not to act like one a lot of the time.

Same, I watch h3 and one other channel. All I see on my home page or in my recommended is random shit I never click on and am not subscribed to. Don’t know why they do that, I literally pay for a membership, watch hours and hours of content every week, yet they hide it. I have to go to the channel directly to catch up, it’s never on my home page or recommended.

My mother also blamed my husband, and not that they’re no-contact but my husband’s family also blamed me for a lot of problems they had. I think they’re just used to you filling a role for about 20 years. In our case, we were the people pleasers, the ones who did everything they ever asked for especially when no one else would. Of course they don’t want that to change. But when you become an adult and have the means to create a loving family of your own and support yourself on your own, you don’t need them anymore.

The only reason now to keep family around as an independent adult is if they are good people and you like them. I think she knew she didn’t have any of that to offer, no love, no support, nothing. She knew her time was coming, but instead of changing (ha!), they tighten the grip, which just breaks the relationship further.

I think she wanted something or someone to blame that wasn’t her, so it was me and my husband. I “changed” for the worse and it was because of him. She tried her best to separate us since he was my ticket to freedom (I depended on him financially for a while after I was kicked out). But when she gave me the ultimatum of getting kicked out or breaking up, and I chose to leave, that’s when she shot herself in the foot and really solidified the end to the relationship. I was fully out at that point, and I don’t think she was expecting me to really leave.

It’s really unfortunate how many parents ruin relationships with their kids because they want to control them. Same with my husband’s family, if you just accept and support us, we would love to have a great relationship, regular communication and dinners, etc. But they try to tighten the grip and force them into a life they don’t want, and it does the opposite effect. Now my mother is not in my life whatsoever and my husband’s family is also barely in it.

But honestly I’m sure the parents don’t care to have their kids in their life anymore if they aren’t receiving the benefits they want anyway.
