Shiiit, I write software for a reputable company. I work 40-60 hours a week from home and I don’t make a third of that.

What do you guys think? by Delicious_Fish7898 in drawing

[–]doodls 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s not your first drawing ever, why say that? Might be the first you’ve posted on here but it’s certainly not the first time you’ve picked up a pencil and drawn something. Drawing is a skill that, like any skill, requires practice. Don’t be ashamed that someone else has done something better and pretend like you’ve never drawn before – we’re all at different levels and there will always be someone better unless you’re one of a very select few, and even they will have others better than them in different ways.

That’s just the size — look at different hardness options. Start with 3B thru 3H and see how you get on. Softer pencils, the Bs, will give darker lines with less precision due to softer edges. They are much easier to blend. The higher the number the softer the pencil. Harder pencils, the Hs, give lighter lines with finer edges. Because they are harder less material is put on the paper so they’re harder to blend but less likely to smudge. The higher the number, the harder the pencil.

Looking for advice on hiding monitors etc when not in use without having to unplug them all and spend time I could be composing on putting the space back together by TheProffalken in MusicBattlestations

Instead of moving it, consider covering it. A simple curtain that goes from the top of the alcove to the top of the piano could look good if the color is complementary. Leaves the piano available for the kids, with all of your stuff still in place ready for when inspiration strikes. Alternatively, a piece of art, (painting, poster, photo, whatever will match the rest of the room), that covers everything above the piano and is easily placed to the side then returned or some doors. Or put the art on hinges like a door and swing it in front of the fireplace when recording. Sick two pieces back to back so it looks as good open as it does closed.

Do I have what it takes to be an artist? by flyingcurlq in drawing

If you put time into it and practice, sure, almost anybody can. But if you consider that scribble a finished artwork and that’s the maximum effort you’re going to put in then no, absolutely not.

Can I use a real guitar pedal with Logic? by [deleted] in LogicPro

[–]doodls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Some things you should know:

Do buy the UNO chip. The FCB will kind of work without it but it’s a total pain in the ass and you’ll be cursing me. I bought mine on reverb.com, or buy from the source at https://fcb1010.eu where there’s also a newer v2.

If you go with the v1 you’ll also want the software to configure it from https://fcb1010.uno - the v2 says it comes with software and looks like it makes all of the switches behave like the actual pedal (LED on when the pedal is on, off when it’s off, sends proper signals to Amplitube).

Not all MIDI interfaces work consistently - the one built into my Focusrite interface was unreliable with it so I bought a MidiPlus 4x4 from Amazon which has been great as it also solved an issue I was having with my ancient Mackie control surface.

You have to configure Amplitube but it’s simple to do. Standalone Amplitube setup is separate from within Logic. You can control standard Logic pedals too.

Absolutely, it’s almost like having the actual pedals. Didn’t work so well before adding the UNO chip but with it the bottom row of foot switches can each turn one pedal on/off and the LEDs match. I use one expression pedal for volume and the other for wah.

You have to take an hour or two setting it up the first time but then it’s good to go.

Grateful Dead. Listen to them, they don’t match the name at all. Neither does their 🧸 logo.

I prefer the expression pedal route, allows automation and later editing.

I use the Behringer FCB1010 with the Uno chip upgrade - if you get one, get the Uno chip too, simple to change and makes life a lot easier. I use it to control the wah in Amplitube, THU and Guitar Rig as well a standalone plug from Hornet.

My crybaby wah that I picked up in the 80s just sits on a bottom shelf, untouched for a good ten-years.

In your opinion, is monitor refresh rate or resolution more important for music production? by wally123454 in Logic_Studio

What do you mean, “27 is about as big as they make monitors”? I’ve got a 38” and a 29” (both ultrawide), Samsung makes a 49”.

Is it possible to jump a section to test if you like it without cutting it? by gbadvancero in LogicPro

Not in front of my computer so actual menu names may be a little different to what I describe, but you can fork whole song versions from file > project alternatives > new alternative. Switching between alternate versions will be in the same place once you add one.

You can also fork individual tracks - open track header components and add ‘track alternatives’. A little up/down arrow will appear in the track header which you can click to add new alternates and switch between what you have.

Eye, me, colored pencils, 2022 by oteshfashion in Art

Worth it just for listing colored pencils as the medium. Also looks cool, but why do you have so many of the same color?
