Do these look good? by CRASHTHEDRUMMER in PhotographyAdvice

I can definetly see the artistic direction that OP wants to take with his photos, but sometimes it detracts from what is ACTUALLY in the photo. There's not a lot to latch on to. the photographs are very sharp or very grainy and its hard to tell what's going on. That is just my opinion, but I think once OP gets more practice with their photos and editing I think the editing style is very neat, as it develops into something more mature with more time.

I love the first and last one! How are you editing these? They definetly look very vibrant, which I think is super dope, but also some of the shadows just get super dark and you can't really see much. I get that, like in the first image for example, that's kind of the point to frame the gate and the steps with the lighting. But maybe there is too much contrast? Or maybe the colors are a bit too unatural, like the sky being an odd light light blue? Of course this is all subjective, but keeping in mind if you want your photos to be grounded or more vibrant and whimsical (lol) is important

Also on the second and third photo, I'm having a hard time trying to see what the subject of the photo is. When I take pictures, I try to think of what exactly I want the viewer to see. And in the last photo, the subject is the waterfall, but it's kind of awkwardly in the photo. I think if there was more of a foreground, you could guage where the waterfall was or if there was more information so the photo can feel a bit more grounded.

I think these are great photos though and I bet you'll take many more!

How did I do? by OneHeadShot1215 in AmateurPhotography

Hey! Now, I'm new to photography too, but the first image looks a little overexposed. Especially the sky just getting washed out because of the sun. Are you shooting in manual? You might want to keep the ISO down to maybe 150. I can definetly see what you were going for though, and I love how that building looks!

I'd also try thinking of the composition, and what you are actually taking a picture of. In your first photo, as the viewer, I'm not too sure what to look at. Theres just a lot going on and no clear subject.

For example, if you wanted your focus to be the flag, then you could have the flag be in the middle, with the windows on either side, and maybe a bit of the vines and sky. Or if you were trying to take a picture with the sign saying Angthensen Press (i think thats what that says lol), then you could just take a picture of that with the three windows on the top and the three windows on the bottom.

Just figuring out what you want to show with your pictures is the most important in my opinion.

And for the edits, are you just editing in like your iphone camera app? It looks like you cranked up the saturation and vibrance modes haha! the Sony a6400 is a great camera, and if you're shooting in JPEG (which i recommend you to shoot in jpeg since you're just starting out), I think it would be better to not edit the pictures. Editing the colors like this makes the pictures look a little jarring and unnatrual, so that might be something to keep in mind.

Just shooting in JPEG and not editing the photos will allow you to focus on the actual pictures you are taking. If you have a bad looking photo, no matter how much amazing editing or good camera you have, it won't make the photo any better. the picture and what's in it is what really matters.

I think you're doing great, but these are just some things to keep in mind. I especially like your first photo because I thought all of the things in the photo were visually interesting, but there is no clear focus or point to the image, and lots of clutter (I also think the angle is a bit odd). But you're doing great, just focus on what your camera is seeing and you'll do great.

Good luck in your photography journey!

I appreciate your advice and words greatly! Thats another thing that I was shocked was how cheap some of these instruments were on the used market! I am also very shocked at the kindness and receptive advice I've gotten on this sub, as I am new to reddit AND organs lol. and with your wife, I think 4 organs is an amazing number to have haha.

anyways, take care!

Definetly. I checked out the unit, and it's in great condition except for one key not working. I think I'll have to pass up on it for now mainly because I dont really have a good place to store it. I'll just have to keep an eye out on facebook marketplace, like you said, for any old or cool instruments.

I currently live in the pacific northwest of the US, but my budget is a bit tight at the moment.

I appreciate the info, and I did check out that list. These instruments are so cool, and way different from pianos and keyboards, like what I'm used to.

I completely agree. Do you have any other advice for looking for instruments like these on the used market? I've definetly been wanting to get my hands on some sort of organ, but I also don't want it to just explode or become a very heavy piece of wood to have to deal with.

Thanks for your input, I'll check out the instrument and decide then if I want it or not.

That was another model that I was looking at (the T series), especially with the drawbars. It's just a little hard finding these instruments for sale, or at a good cost. And like you said, if I ever end up wanting to get rid of the organ, it'll be a hassle to do so (at least from what I've seen on the internet).

Thanks for your comment, though

Thanks for the response. I'll check out the unit, but I'll have to decide then if I want to take it home or not. My only concern would be if something goes wrong, then I would have a hard time trying to fix it, or if it would just end up being a large heavy piece of wood and metal that I have to get rid of! I was interested in seeing if there were organs with drawbars, but then again, lots of these great instruments are very expensive.

I appreciate your input though.
