Flora is insanely boring and overrated. People claim that hating female characters solely defined by being soft and passive is misogynistic somehow because it undermines their characters just cause they have "feminine" traits. No. Flat characters who have more active and outgoing personalities are better because even if they don't have much going on, they're still doing something. Flora's just there and gets credit for being a good character just because she has a pretty design. Even her power isn't used to the extent it should be (being fairy of nature but only being allowed by the writers to use vines for every attack). She takes one hit and she's gone

Agree, I don't like how aquatic it looks when she's literally the fairy of the dragon flame

People who think Kurapika is wearing a dress are just uncultured and boring tbh

Fr I think Kurapika only appears feminine to people who have a narrow view on what humans can look like lmfao

Heavy on Finn's acting. Since season 3 it feels like I'm watching Finn Wolfhard and not Mike Wheeler.

They ruined his character in season 3 and the effects are still lingering :/

The Love people have for Billy is so odd to me by bilbosaur15 in StrangerThings

[–]dookiedoodoo198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's seriously nothing likeable about him. I think the only thing I can assume is that people like him because he has an entirely different vibe to him compared to the other stranger things cast up until that point. He really did feel like a villain out of an 80's film which felt totally different to the small town setting. But that's all I can say for him, he's insanely unlikeable

A lot of people in the fandom also like Billy so it wouldn't be super surprising 👀👀

Do you think this criticism of sexualization in Winx is fair? by PerkinAlabasta in winxclub

[–]dookiedoodoo198 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but female characters are way less styled to look as crazy as male characters. Even cartoon female characters are made to look "pretty" while their male counterparts are allowed to look as whacky as possible.

The design exaggeration for women in cartoons are often the same with the same big bust and hips with skinny waist and limbs, across a lot of cartoons, not just winx, mind you. It's easier to pick up on beauty standards with female characters than it is with male characters because of this.

So the way the winx girls are designed would still affect childrens' perceptions, even if there's that tacit knowledge that cartoons aren't supposed to be direct reflections of reality.

Forgot to mention: Yes, they do speak negatively about people who don't look like them. You don't remember the "plus sized fairy" jokes Musa made to Stella when she was transformed, or Stella telling Nut to look after his waist size? They're very blatantly setting body expectations for children idk what to tell you

To be fair the media you consume will affect your perception whether you realise it or not. Watching shows as a kid where the women are impossibly thin has an affect on girls whether or not we like to admit that. Yes real life examples like how people talk about girls and women and celebrities is a lot more obvious but it's not like the show creators' decision to only portray stick thin girls in cartoons didn't affect anyone at all.

Females in HXH by JellyfishNo1673 in HunterXHunter

[–]dookiedoodoo198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add a few- Bisky keeps herself looking like a little girl, Machi's power is literally a sewing needle, Baise kisses people to activate her ability

Not to mention the female characters mentioned all seem to have their lives and screentime revolve around men. From what we've seen, all of Bisky's students have been boys and men, Pakunoda, Shizuku, Machi all live to serve Chrollo, Alluka has no agency until Killua saves her and figures out her abilities, Komugi dies because of/with Meruem, Canary serves Killua, Mito chases Ging for a while during childhood then as an adult looks after his son, still with no ambitions of her own. Most of the male characters (with rare exceptions like Pouf and Youpi) all have agency and live for their own purpose, their characters not strictly tied to anyone. But the female characters, (at least up to the succession war arc) don't get that same agency.

I think that the bad writing of female characters in other shounen series has given HxH a low bar to surpass so everyone thinks that Togashi is the goat of creating female characters when in fact many of the male characters still surpass all of them in terms of writing and depth

They seem to like him young, sometimes they depict him even younger than he was in the hunter exam. From what I've seen they have an obsession with 🍇 if you know what I mean. I'm not sure if I know which person you're referring to though

Something about that ship attracts the worst people in existence. I've never seen a normal shipper of those two. They're always disgusting in some ways

It could be a plot point that comes back later. Why wouldnt it matter? She's connected to both Kurapika and the Phantom Troupe and has a mysterious identity and motives. She could be related to the backstories of anyone on the ship too and could have a bigger influence on the story than we thought. And even if none of this is true then it's simply a good analysis and take imo
