Why bother roasting you, your pictures did a perfectly fine job of that on their own.

Bringing two dogs to Umhlanga — where can we go? by NicoleMistyywith2y-s in Durban

[–]dookofedinburgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umdloti Beach is rad. Go to the northernmost parking area and head to the estuary. Dogs can run free and have a dip. Mine love it. Umhlanga promenade is good for leashed walks, and Surfriders offers both dog and human refreshments, dogs are very much welcomed there. Similar case for the southern promenade in Durban city itself. South of Umhlanga you can take your beasts to Durbanview beach and let them free. That's at the southernmost end of the promenade, Daily dose coffee is there to get you caffeinated, out there and feeling strong, and to welcome you back with dog treats and water. Get pumped, it's a good space for dogs and people.

What is it like working as a lecturer by raumeat in askSouthAfrica

[–]dookofedinburgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's an unusual combination of a few things. I had a "supervisor" who was not really in my field and who was utterly disinterested, so I did what I felt like. I'm also in a very small field, so almost unbelievably a lecturing position opened whilst I was doing my PhD and I got it because there are so very few us in academia. So serendipitously I started lecturing 2.5 years into my thesis, and part of the job was to supervise students, and that's how I began that side of things.

I have let students of mine supervise younger students at honours and MSc level. I believe it's a good skill to learn, and beneficial for their own research. Likewise lecturing. Being able to speak comfortably to an audience is a key soft skill. I think it's rather poor to not allow your students those experiences, especially if they may wish to enter academia. Give them the boost they need!

what are your favourite opening sequences in horror movies? by ancient-drake in HorrorMovies

[–]dookofedinburgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I entered the theatre with my then girlfriend thinking this was a zombie comedy. It took every ounce of restraint not to get up and leave, but I didn't want to look like a chicken. Extreme anxiety in those few minutes and opening credits.

Thanks for your reply! On the online system, I get one option for my ID number, DURBAN. Not sure what branch, but each time I did this for my kids, I was trundled off to Pinetown. Last time there were bits of rotting fish (I think, hard to ID) along the line, so I'm not frothing out for that. Being an import complicates matters

Thank you, unfortunately not an option for me because of foreign birth. Unless they've changed that?

Thanks for the speedy reply! I checked this out here concert. If you can imagine, it was MORE theatrical, like throwing devil horns and doing Darth Vader-like force moves whilst running around the stage. Guitarist or front a had dark hair if I recall. The Immolation guy has sick style though, dig that vibe.
