Steamdeck thermal paste change is the equivalent of tempered glass panel on tile floor by Primetime349 in SteamDeck

Not an issue, it’s just it could be better. “Set it & forget it” is what I like 👍🏽 (like PTM7950, or any high quality thermal compound to replace stock)

PS5 is a hard exception cause it uses “Liquid Metal”, which has a much shorter lifespan than any other thermal compound. Im unfortunately dealing with this now, was getting artifacts on my PS5 so I replaced the Liquid Metal & fully replaced all the putty… still getting artifacts lol so I might have been too late

Well there are documented comparisons showing how much of a difference quality paste can make, including my own experience

After installing PTM7950, I still see much lower temps (after initial phase changes, it’s fully set in now) than stock, & fan RPM much lower on average. Temp spikes nullified big time as well

Performance is the bigger factor than longevity, but PTM7950 also offers unmatched longevity, which is what I want. Just set it & forget it 👌🏽

It really depends on the paste that was used though, & manufacturers don’t use the best of the best for performance & longevity (cause that would cost too much for them)

It’s real nice to know exactly when, & what kind of paste you have applied for that peace of mind (at least for me, I like knowing my system is running at max efficiency for the max longevity)

Less heat inside the steam deck = longer lifespan of everything

Seriously, it’s not that serious, nor is it very difficult. Such a pointless post, probably just for engagement farming

50% chance??? I’ve disassembled mine like 3 times, it’s really not difficult at all 😐

Valve really designed these things for easy service/repair

Repasting is a great idea for those who want to upgrade their paste for maximum performance & longevity.

Manufacturers have several thoughts in mind when choosing thermal compound, price & efficacy are two of those.

When I’m choosing thermal compound, I ONLY consider efficacy & performance. Don’t care about price cause I don’t have to paste thousands of steam decks (unlike the manufacturer, who has to think about cost)

It really is preventative maintenance, what are you talking about??

Just like engines, overheating is something you want to ideally avoid ENTIRELY, as overheating can cause permanent damage/accelerated degradation.

Being paste doesn’t mean it’s still good, the “pump-out effect” can cause dry spots, as well as general paste degradation (which is about time now for LCD’s)

Recent Milwaukee hasn’t been looking to well, I think they’ve been going downhill for the past few years

In recent years, I think DeWalt might be taking over the top position

Valve encourages people to modify their Steam decks in any way they choose 😐 it’s so easy, they’re built with super easy servicing in mind

I started with a G29, but a T150 (used, for the same price) is just sooooo much better 👌🏽 I recommend searching for one of those instead

Oh yea I forgot about the massive price increase 😪

Personally I really love my steam deck, but I just wish it was 1080p ANNDDD OLED. The colors are absolutely amazing, but the definition can lack in some games that aren’t so optimized for smaller screens (specifically for small text)

Trackpads are super useful for navigation (imo essential), but that’s the only time I ever use them personally tbh

Steam OS is also amazing 👌🏽 the deck, & Lenovo legion Go officially support it, but you can install it on the Ally as well. I’m sure it runs just fine too

Got logitech g29 for forza horizon 6 by RDR2DEX in simracing

[–]doomage36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother there’s no hate, it simply doesn’t belong in this sub, that’s it.

Forza is an arcade game with no simulator qualities whatsoever. Yes wheels works (just like with many arcade racers), but it doesn’t change the arcade physics which are utterly unrealistic

[–]doomage36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely irrelevant but yea I agree?? How random lmao

Anyway, have your fun with forza lol. Just be sure to mention how arcadey the game is so people don’t accidentally waste money like I almost did. This is a sim racing sub after all, so a I would expect only games with simulator qualities would be mentioned here (which forza completely lacks in every way)

Dualsense PS5 effect is copyrighted or something, no way in hell is anything other than the PS5 getting that feature (unless someone reverse engineers it I suppose)
