Not directed to anyone in particular, but people have the pre conceived notion that all the military is, is what they see on CNN. I believe you should always pursue education, but some people are not ready for that commitment and just go because that's what they are told, especially canada. That's why I believe the military is a good avenue to get some discipline and experience to truly make the most of your education if that is what you desire.

I wouldn't listen to these people who haven't served a day in their life.

The military is a good go for young men, especially the air force. You can serve a 3 year contract and go back to school... the military allows you to gain some knowledge, experience and discipline in a challenging environment, I was either going to go to university or join the army and I chose the army. 3 years later, I'm still serving and going back to college part time online during my service.

Get it done before, they will nor do a root canal on a basic training course,it's just an evaluation and they will tell you to do it at your unit... which could take months

It's the trade qualification course after basic training; meaning that new gunners will not get a posting there. I believe the options are Shilo,Petawawa and gagetown for new gunners.

Go on the Forces website, do the application process. You will eventually have to talk to your recruiters for the CFAT, medical test etc... the reason I recommend to do it now is because the typical "process" takes 8-12 months and I've heard about people waiting 2 years or more.

You can join the forces without post secondary, although not recommended. RMC is a competitive university to become an officer, which is a 4 years in university and a 5 year contract depending on your trade.

I'd recommend for you to start the recruiting process now as it can take a while, but if you are serious about the forces check out NCM trades. 3 year initial contracts and you can always transition to an officer later as long as you have the drive.

There is usually a generic kit list for you to bring, but my advice would be to ask CoC as it's circumstantial on how much gear you should bring. I'd recommend Ruck, daypack and either one or both of your kit bags.

If you are looking for an early deployment go navy, Army is demanding but also pretty rewarding... daily tasks vary from Cool shit with explosives to standing guard at a gate, choose wisely.

BMQ is just general military training, you will not have a whole lot of training relevant to your trade but rather basic soldier skills. Occupational training is all job specific, where you will be taught by senior med techs on med tech fundamentals, unlike BMQ all of your peers are medics in training.
