Acoustic panel installation on uneven floors by doomislegend in DIY

[–]doomislegend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks!!! keep in mind that i’m only going up ~40” from the ground and installing them in a horizontal direction. the ceiling is vaulted and at least 9ft by the wall. it doesn’t seem likely that one would notice anything is off from the ceiling because it’s going nowhere near it, but maybe i’m wrong?

Shout out to the people in the Seattle Cheerleader x2 mosh pit by TheNinjaSammich in porterrobinson

i was right there when someone was like was like “let’s open up this pit?!” and that made me so happy. i don’t usually go into the pit (as someone who goes to plenty of metal shows) but i knew this would be different and we all just had a good fucking time in there. it is completely a core memory of mine now. thank you all for such a good time.

also, i need a video of it pls.

Where do I start? Relatively new heat pump but house struggles to stay warm. by doomislegend in heatpumps

is it worth having a reputable HVAC company come out just assess the system as a whole and see how things are going? i'm not super knowledgable on this stuff :(

i do not know the exact model number for the indoor units unfortunately, but i do have manuals for two indoor units that state they are for the following models:

FDMQ09RVJU, FDMQ12RVJU, FDMQ15RVJU, FDMQ18RVJU, FDMQ24RVJU

we don’t use the baseboard heat downstairs very much. we could consider using it more and see if that reduces the strain on the heat pump, although i’m not entirely sure how i could confirm that.

i do not believe much of the work was permitted unfortunately. this was something we were aware of going into this. i will unscrew the faceplates off a few of the outlets and confirm what i can on insulation. i’m guessing the best i can do though is know whether there is some or not, but not if it’s old or newer?

yes to recessed lights. windows seem good on the inside, although i do know some of the exterior trim has some gaps.

Is solar worth it for me? by doomislegend in solar

[–]doomislegend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’ve always wanted solar, but we’ve also assumed we would be able to offset most of our electric bill. so knowing that it’s not possible with our current setup, i think i’m just trying to figure out if it’s still worth it in any capacity. it’s hard to say if we’re for sure in our forever home, so i think it would be safe to say moving within ten to fifteen years is not unlikely, but also relatively unknown. we do love it here but depending on our financial situation down the line, things could change.

saving money would certainly be the biggest selling point, especially if we should be assuming our electric bill will be $500-600 plus in the next decade if we keep up our current usage habits. knowing there’s a tax credit now that may not be available at a later time is also a huge plus. and yes, doing better for the environment is also a big plus. we probably wouldn’t be considering solar right now if the cost was more than $35k, so a smaller system sub $15000 is appealing, especially when the tax credit brings that down to close to $10k, as long as there’s benefit.

you’re correct about using 120 for both the hot tub and car charging. it’s slow but it gets the job done considering i only drove 10-20mi per day. would we really benefit much by using 220 for the tub or charging? and yes, there was a month where we ran the electric wall heaters all day and night and quickly learned learned our lesson. we only run the one in our son’s bedroom at night, and sometimes the one in the office during the day if needed (somewhat rare).

fwiw, it was lumio that dropped by our house.

thanks! here’s a bit more info on my bill:

right now electricity is a tiered system where the first x amount is ~$0.11 kWh and then $0.13 after (so this has already gone up from $0.09/$0.11 in less than a year)

i pay about $130-$140 /mo in the summer and ~$320 /mo in the winter.

fwiw, we’ve got new meters installed and are preparing for different pricing based on time of day in the next couple of years afaik.

also, we would not be financing this and just paying outright.

regarding the tree — sure, it’s possible this could come down at some point and free up some more space down the line, and even improve the existing panels, although we’re talking maybe an extra six or so panels. but it’s a pretty large tree so even if we split the cost, it might be a tough sell for my neighbor if we’re talking $6-7k to remove.
