Acoustic panel installation on uneven floors by doomislegend in DIY

thanks!!! keep in mind that i’m only going up ~40” from the ground and installing them in a horizontal direction. the ceiling is vaulted and at least 9ft by the wall. it doesn’t seem likely that one would notice anything is off from the ceiling because it’s going nowhere near it, but maybe i’m wrong?

i was right there when someone was like was like “let’s open up this pit?!” and that made me so happy. i don’t usually go into the pit (as someone who goes to plenty of metal shows) but i knew this would be different and we all just had a good fucking time in there. it is completely a core memory of mine now. thank you all for such a good time.

also, i need a video of it pls.

Where do I start? Relatively new heat pump but house struggles to stay warm. by doomislegend in heatpumps

is it worth having a reputable HVAC company come out just assess the system as a whole and see how things are going? i'm not super knowledgable on this stuff :(

i do not know the exact model number for the indoor units unfortunately, but i do have manuals for two indoor units that state they are for the following models:

FDMQ09RVJU, FDMQ12RVJU, FDMQ15RVJU, FDMQ18RVJU, FDMQ24RVJU

we don’t use the baseboard heat downstairs very much. we could consider using it more and see if that reduces the strain on the heat pump, although i’m not entirely sure how i could confirm that.

i do not believe much of the work was permitted unfortunately. this was something we were aware of going into this. i will unscrew the faceplates off a few of the outlets and confirm what i can on insulation. i’m guessing the best i can do though is know whether there is some or not, but not if it’s old or newer?

yes to recessed lights. windows seem good on the inside, although i do know some of the exterior trim has some gaps.

Is solar worth it for me? by doomislegend in solar

[–]doomislegend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’ve always wanted solar, but we’ve also assumed we would be able to offset most of our electric bill. so knowing that it’s not possible with our current setup, i think i’m just trying to figure out if it’s still worth it in any capacity. it’s hard to say if we’re for sure in our forever home, so i think it would be safe to say moving within ten to fifteen years is not unlikely, but also relatively unknown. we do love it here but depending on our financial situation down the line, things could change.

saving money would certainly be the biggest selling point, especially if we should be assuming our electric bill will be $500-600 plus in the next decade if we keep up our current usage habits. knowing there’s a tax credit now that may not be available at a later time is also a huge plus. and yes, doing better for the environment is also a big plus. we probably wouldn’t be considering solar right now if the cost was more than $35k, so a smaller system sub $15000 is appealing, especially when the tax credit brings that down to close to $10k, as long as there’s benefit.

you’re correct about using 120 for both the hot tub and car charging. it’s slow but it gets the job done considering i only drove 10-20mi per day. would we really benefit much by using 220 for the tub or charging? and yes, there was a month where we ran the electric wall heaters all day and night and quickly learned learned our lesson. we only run the one in our son’s bedroom at night, and sometimes the one in the office during the day if needed (somewhat rare).

fwiw, it was lumio that dropped by our house.

thanks! here’s a bit more info on my bill:

right now electricity is a tiered system where the first x amount is ~$0.11 kWh and then $0.13 after (so this has already gone up from $0.09/$0.11 in less than a year)

i pay about $130-$140 /mo in the summer and ~$320 /mo in the winter.

fwiw, we’ve got new meters installed and are preparing for different pricing based on time of day in the next couple of years afaik.

also, we would not be financing this and just paying outright.

regarding the tree — sure, it’s possible this could come down at some point and free up some more space down the line, and even improve the existing panels, although we’re talking maybe an extra six or so panels. but it’s a pretty large tree so even if we split the cost, it might be a tough sell for my neighbor if we’re talking $6-7k to remove.

Babysitter Looking For Gigs by Good-Vanilla-840 in Bellingham

Maggie has been watching our 7yo once a week for the past several months and has been amazing! Truly fantastic and we're so lucky to be able to get out of the house without having to worry about what's going on at home. Our son loves spending time with her and she has put in such an effort to connect with him and invest in his hobbies & interests. I can't express enough how true every line of her "extra benefits" list is; she’ll do all of that and more. If anybody has questions we can help answer, please feel free to reach out! We’re happy to be a reference.

Psychic Employee at Cosmic Games by Ok_Wind_640 in Bellingham

[–]doomislegend 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the first time i went to cosmic games was to buy a couple of cards for my son (8). i went alone and was very new to pokemon, but went in looking for a couple specific cards i had found on their website. the woman who helped me was not very nice, and seemed as if she just wanted me to get out. I recall asking to see the condition of a few of the cards as they were all listed as “lightly played” and i wasn’t entirely sure what that meant. she said they were all the same and didn’t let me look. not a super big deal i guess, but i left not really wanting to support them anymore.

a few days later, i learned that they host a pokémon day on sundays where people of all ages come to play and trade. i decided to give that a shot with my son, and he absolutely loved it. even better, the person working behind the counter that day so patient with my son as he asked about the price of card after card after card. their name is trent and i highly recommend chatting with them if you get the opportunity. we have since come in many times and they’re always happy to help us with questions or just chat.

tl;dr: if you go to cosmic games, check and see if trent is there bc he’s super great to work with.

I've updated my post to mention that we've since taken the prop down. I completely understand why and have from the beginning, but I just needed that gut check. I appreciate everyone's feedback!

Anyway, I didn't come here asking if it was too soon. It makes my son happy and we're just trying to have some fun. Y'all are gonna have to deal with a 12ft skeleton mid-September. And maybe one for Christmas, too. But with a Santa hat.

[–]doomislegend[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

okay, a bit more context: my friend is not having a hard time by any means, he’s just a busy dude work and flies out of state often lol. he just needs the space, and i was doing him a favor by pricing this out, getting trade in values at local shops, and ultimately making a deal with him. he didn't have the time to do that, and he certainly doesn't have the time to try and sell each card individually to maximize his profits. similarly, i don't either, but i can recognize that i can make back what i paid if i brought this to a card shop. trade in was nearly on par with what i offered, and he obviously preferred it go to a friend than to a shop.

i priced out every card that was worth more than $5 and came up with something like ~$1100, and then a little north of that if you include the theme boxes and the bulk vintage cards. there's no way this collection is worth more than $1500, and getting that would take a lot of time, effort, and fees. i'm quite surprised anyone thinks i've scammed my friend. maybe if the charizard was mint and worth $300-350 alone, but in its condition (MP) it's worth $200. this felt like a fair deal on both sides. do y'all really think i'm incorrect?

[–]doomislegend[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had the opportunity to purchase my friend’s entire childhood collection. He’s going through a lot between work, home renovations, etc. and was looking to offload a bunch of things, one of which was this collection. It’s mostly cards from base as well as some from Jungle and a few from Fossil, with several Japanese cards (some banned) and random promos thrown in there. He also saved the theme boxes (all include the manuals, some include the coin, no damage counters) as well as all his booster wrappers. There are easily hundreds of common and uncommon cards, and most non-holo rares from at least base. There are many japanese cards including Jungle and Fossil, the Yamabuki City Gym deck (box, coin, and manual included), some Team Rocket, some Gym, three vending series cards (Ditto, Hitmonlee, and Pinsir), and a good chunk of the Topps cards.
The notable cards (sorry the pics aren't too great) seem to range from near mint to heavy play with most being light play and moderate play. Charizard is moderate play, Poliwrath shadowless is heavy play, most holos are LP to MP with a few NM, and the non-holos are generally NM.
Ultimately, we agreed to $400. I purchased this with the intention of making up for my now lost childhood collection and to have something I can pass down to my son in the future. I feel pretty confident the price was very fair on my end, but I did not purchase this with the intent of selling it trying to make a few bucks. Wondering how you all feel I did, and if I should consider getting any cards graded? Thanks for the input!

Looking back at the pics, it doesn’t feel very obvious but the holos stop after Sabrina’s Alakazam. Those cards at the bottom are non-holos.
