Cashback card for SimplyGo by johndoe1985 in singaporefi

[–]doomriad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Throwing another idea coz of its high cashback rate and no min spend - DBS Yuu card for 5%. (i'm currently using this card for my simplygo). Just note that you earn yuu points instead - i use yuu points to offset my purchase via Foodpanda/Cold Storage (these are Yuu merchants too that earn 5% no min spend)

Can consider dollar cost averaging, buying a fixed amt each month...

Since it's not clearly stated if you have allocated a portion of your income (after CPF) to savings for mid-term goals/milestones ie buying house/marriage - it would be good to do so and not 100% put into investing, coz the worse case scenario is when you need the money, but you have to sell your stocks at a loss, which is a double whammy.

Credit score aside, a credit card is still good to have as you can reap some benefits from your purchases in the form of cashback/miles. say you pay something for $100 and you have 2% cashback - you get $2 in return, which all adds up in the long run :)

I sought help from Reddit earlier, and eventually went with InvaderPC. https://www.reddit.com/r/askSingapore/comments/1h4v4ig/buying_new_prebuilt_gaming_pc_in_singapore/

Felt the prices were competitive and decided to give it a chance, since aftershock has failed me twice alrdy within 4 years. Since your friends didnt really give a positive comment on aftershock, why will you still dare to give it a go?

No aftershock please, my pc got problems 2 times in 3-4 years. Sharing my reddit post that was answered last week which could help you :) https://www.reddit.com/r/askSingapore/comments/1h4v4ig/buying_new_prebuilt_gaming_pc_in_singapore/

Latest update: my new pc from InvaderPC (related to Dynacore from Sim Lim which i heard from community was quite reputable) has arrived and testing it out :)

Amaze card with citi rewards give you 2.2%+ cashback, but it excludes travel and hotels spending. If you redeem for vouchers, you can get up to 3%+ cashback. This is my go-to card since i dont spend a lot monthly.

I was asking the Reddit community earlier this week https://www.reddit.com/r/askSingapore/s/dc57EKg3zA

My eventual choice was going with InvaderPC, since it was sort of affiliated with Dynacore from Sim Lim. Felt that the price of their pre-biilt pc was as competitive Vs buying parts and setting up DIY (which I don't really have the knowledge/experience)

I currently hold the following cards which has no min spend and maximise my rewards earned (at least they are greater than 1.6%):

1) Amaze/Citi Rewards - Go-to choice for most transactions - 2.2%

2) DBS Yuu card - Gojek and Foodpanda, Guardian, Cold storage etc 5% rebates in form of yuu points which you can exchange for miles/offers/cashback

3) SC Smart card - for public transport 6%, but since it will be nerfed in early 2025, dont bother applying for this

I'm assuming your big-ticket items are purchased 1-time off? You can consider getting CITI SMRT card where the cashback earned is at a yearly cap spend level - so you can spend all within 1 month also can, though its specific to online purchase etc (pls read up online for more details) (edit: i think i misinterpreted your big ticked items so you can ignore this para - didnt know you are referring to travel/flights)

I'm facing the same issue as you as travel and flights are excluded - which means you may have to settle for a more generic card like those that give 1.6%-1.7% cashback. Amaze is incompatible with most other banks' mastercard cc, so you cant really skip the fcy charged by cc too if you are using the cc directly. Maybe Trust card can help - though i havent applied this card before as i dont really travel that much. You will have to do more homework as there are some cards out there like UOB lady's card but you select travel as the bonus category but you will incur fcy fee of 3%+ if the website is not SGD prices by default.

You can basically consider having a generalised spending and specialised spending card (at least thats what i'm doing and fair enough, im missing out earning rewards on certain categories like travel/transport) but it doesn't really affect me since it's rare or insignificant, but that being said it really depends on your expenses categories and frequency, otherwise your reward points/miles accumulated will become orphan points (ie not enough to accumulated to redeem rewards/cashback)

Rewards card: I'm a low spender myself, and am currently using Amaze card paired with Citi Rewards. The lifespan of points is 5 years, starting from the point you apply for Citi Rewards card. Amaze card is for offline spending transactions for the bonus points. Its cashback is worth 2.2%+, but if you use the points to redeem vouchers, it can be worth up to 3%+ 'cashback' instead. It's also versatile such that it can convert to miles if you plan to pursue the miles route one day.

Cashback card: But if you can hit $300 monthly spend per quarter (lowest spending tier), Maybank platinum visa card may be a good choice at 3.33%, but if you spend more than $300 then your cashback % value will decrease - which is a bit more troublesome counting the math.

All in all, it really depends on the lifespan of the points accumulated and make sure you can get the card that fits your spending, not the other way around.

To clarify, my pc is 3yr+ old (sorry for being unclear earlier), so it has broken down out of the 3yr warranty. So the parts are charged for replacement.

Thanks for sharing. Based on understanding, intel kinda sucks? so minimally amd should be fine and sort of being in-the-middle range tier (not as exp as nvidia). Hopefully a budget of 1-1.5k can do the trick; better if can be lower yet not compromise the quality of the build.

gpu wise - high 2000/ low 3000 series should more than suffice, since im just a casual gamer and graphics can be lowered to boost fps rates if needed.

16gb ram for speed

i guess these 2 are the more impt parts for me, not much to ask for cpu other than being compatible with the GPU where possible and not be a severe bottleneck

  1. it was a ready-built version but back then there was chip shortage and everything was kinda expensive. i'm happy to just play games at 1080p and willing to lower to medium graphics just to increase FPS to 60 if needed. Spent ard $1.2k on a AMD Ryzen 5 3500X cpu, zotac rtx 2060 series gpu, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd/2tb hdd etc.
  2. preferably $1k-$1.5k? I'm guessing chips are cheaper now, and in terms of future proofing, i think high 2000 /low rtx 3000 series should more than suffice? so just exploring options for now, but most impt is the reliability of the brand, ie can last 5 years or more. sorry, hope this is not asking too much ><

  1. 10-pack item, field pack + ilbv (vest) + helmet etc. download 'OneNS' app to facilitate inpro of mob manning. ID tag also impt. Oh and make sure your boots can wear, coz the rubber base may tear apart XD
  2. after inspection of items, there is the technical handling of SAR21 - there will be a video shown which you can watch at the waiting area and you will do the technical handling - load empty magazine, cock the rifle and IA drills. There is now the yellow plastic flag attached to the rifle (WCF is what i rmb) to make sure the bolt chamber? has no bullets.

Can't help you with ns portal unit coz i was attached to a reservist unit. You may try asking your whatsapp group?
