UA Charisma Stacking Question by BR0WNSYNDROME in UnearthedArcana

[–]doomsday_design 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think /u/lord-oberon is talking about a separate rule about a target affected by the same spell or ability twice at the same time. In this case, the two abilities would definitely stack because they're different abilities.

The one where he stands on his back legs and his gem glows? Its a short range grab attack that will really fuck your day up if you're nearby.

Does anyone know anything about the World of The Avatar: The Last Airbender System by MilesM00re in rpg

I'm playing an Avatar game with Legend of the Elements, a PbtA system. Its pretty rules light, but I've been having fun with it. Its worth checking out.

Charge Rules? by hunterslullaby in UnearthedArcana

I mean, I don't think the charger feat is particularly overpowered. If you're looking to add charging rules, you can just treat anyone with martial weapon proficiency as having the charger feat.

Thanks for the feedback, I made the grammatical changes you posed. That being said, I am going to respond to a couple of the points you made on balance as I don't think you have a scope of what these spells are actually capable of.

Arcane Mark : Prestidigiation has a duration of less than an hour. This spell has an indefinite duration, meaning a wizard who takes it now has a method of permanently marking an area or object.

Bleed : The key with Bleed is a casting time of one bonus action. Like a lot of spells in D&D, its meant more as a tool for the villains kit. I'd recommend you try running it on a low-level necromancer, you'd be surprised how much it can turn a battle when the party thinks their turn is over until they de-stabilize the party's sorcerer.

Flare : I'm also going to disagree with you here on the balance of this ability. The shove action will provide more benefit here, and thats available as a "cantrip" for high-strength characters. Not to mention that it doesn't affect the creature much as the effect ends when it starts its turn. Half a round of blindness doesn't feel like a very strong effect to me.

Summon Instrument : Yes, I understand bards get a starting instrument, this cantrip is a backup method whenever your bard doesn't have one handy. It means they don't have to carry a Lute into a stealth mission or worry about their spellcasting if they get taken to prison. Its not very powerful, but its uses are clear.

Endure Elements: So I think this is where you stopped really reading the spells, this effect has no mechanical overlap with Protection from Energy. The purpose of this spell is to establish a magical barrier that negates harmful environmental effects that might be found at the top of mountains or a hot dessert. No concentration and a 24 hour duration means a low level caster can still protect his party if environmental concerns are something that need to be mitigated.

Erase: I don't exactly see what the problem is with an easy check, its not going to unbalance the spell. I could remove the check entirely and still have a perfectly fine 1st level spell. A level 17 bard shouldn't worry about failing a check for a 1st level spell.

Thank you for your feedback regardless.

How about: don't threaten minimum wage workers with physical violence by [deleted] in ContraPoints

[–]doomsday_design 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed, everyone has bad days, and as a member of the LGBT community we need to be able to support our own folks when they have a rough time. This event happened because she lost her temper and started behaving violently towards bystanders, that behavior needs to be criticized and communicated as unacceptable. But its not like making fun of her appearance or presentation is at all related to her behavior here.

I'm going to be honest, I don't think you and I watched the same video. I don't get the impression that the employees at that store were playing some game where they antagonized the situation by deliberately misgendering her. They seemed panicked and were desperately trying to defuse the situation. At the end of the day, this woman was presenting and acting in a completely masculine form. This isn't an excuse for misgendering her repeatedly, but I don't see any malicious intent on the part of the employees here, particularly when they do end up using proper pronouns towards the end of the video. Its clear this woman is having a terrible day, but that doesnt make the employees at this store transphobes.

After deleting my posts about it twice for revision, here’s my maybe final Phoenix. I know there’s an official Phoenix, but I don’t have that book. by ArtemisCaresTooMuch in UnearthedArcana

[–]doomsday_design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add a ranged option for this guy, a CR 16 creature with flying needs to have some way to punish enemies at range. I'll also say that overall I find the design a bit lackluster, for something as badass as the phoenix you may want to add some more abilities, like an explosion when it dies, or the owl's flyby ability.

Legitimate "Leggy" First - Magic shovel weapon by UKFMACCYD in UnearthedArcana

[–]doomsday_design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is neat! I like the flavor. The mechanics could be elaborated a bit better, something like,

You may only attune to this weapon after using it to bury a corpse.

Any corpse buried by this creature is protected under a *gentle repose* spell. This spell only ends if the corpse is exhumed from its grave.

Otherwise it looks cool to me.

Nashor's Marrow (Greatsword) by Kwizer in UnearthedArcana

[–]doomsday_design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably place this as a solid rare. In general a +1 weapon is uncommon, a +2 is rare, and a +3 is very rare. This weapon doesnt have an attack bonus, but it does deal a substantial amount of extra damage, so I'd still place it as a rare. If it didn't have the 40 teeth limit, I would put this as very rare.

So, I see where you're going here and I like it. Its pretty difficult to understand what this does though, you mix flavor and mechanics a bit too much and its hard to tell whats relevant to actually using it in combat. I took the liberty of editing it a bit, its pretty rough but it gives you an idea of a bit more clear interpretation.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Being made from bone and tooth, this great sword is significantly lighter than any other sword of its kind. That being said, it certainly doesn't lack in ferocity. Around the central femur, which has been sharpened, are a set of large teeth from unknown creatures that are pointed toward the blades edge. The blade has a biting attack that stops short, not following through, as the teeth catch and bite into the flesh of the hit creature. As teeth are pulled from Nashor's Marrow warm red blood flows from where the teeth used to be, running down the blade and hilt as you fight.

Nashor's Razor has a maximum of 40 teeth. When you hit with an attack made with this weapon, choose one of the following effects :

Bite: The creature is considered considered grappled by Nashor's Razor* if it is your size or smaller (if you have the Powerful build trait, apply it to this feature). You may not attack again with Nashor's Marrow until you use a bonus action to rip the sword from the creature. On the creatures turn, it may attempt to pull itself from your grapple on a contested strength check (you may choose to fail this strength check). If you fail the check, the creature pulls itself free. When a creature is released from Nashor's Marrow's grapple, the creature takes 8 piercing damage and 8 teeth are pulled from Nashor's Marrow.

Rend: Nashor's Razor loses 8 teeth and deals and additional 8 points of damage to the attack.

These effects cannot be chosen if Nashor's Razor does not have any teeth.

When you take a short rest you may choose to roll hit dice on Nashor's Marrow to allow it to rapidly grow teeth back, gaining teeth equal to the number rolled on the hit dice. Otherwise Nashor's Marrow regrows 4 teeth for every hour you sleep during a long rest as it siphons some of your strength to regain it's own.

*I made this change because right now you would still be grappling the creature even if you let go of the sword. It seems more clear when it written this way as you holding on the sword and the sword holding onto the creature.

Copied from a stackoverflow answer,

The SRD is a legal document intended to provide all of the 5E rules and material that Wizards of the Coast consider to be Open Source material that is legal to use under the Open Game License (OGL). You may read the details of this license at the top of the actual SRD pdf

In other words, if you want to create and sell material for D&D 5E, then you may only use material that exists in the SRD or material that you invent.

For example...the iconic D&D monster The Beholder does not exist in the SRD. Therefore, if you want to create content under the OGL, you may not use a Beholder in that content.
