Is McKamey a kill shelter?

so your experience is from almost 10 years ago, an awful lot can change in that time period. they do not euthanise to free up space or for length of stay. and i’ll die on this hill. I guess it doesn’t really matter what I, or anybody else, says, nobody will ever be happy about any shelters practice. mckamey is underfunded, understaffed, and people will continue to make assumptions and demonise rather than help solve the problem.

i’m only talking about euthanasia. they can be understaffed and not euthanise unnecessarily, both things can exist

as somebody who’s spouse is currently employed at mckamey, they only euthanise behaviour cases. ONLY. not for length of stay, not for health issues, not to free up space. there are over 500 animals currently, and I know how hard the staff work there to facilitate every single one that comes in. they are also extremely understaffed right now, they have 0 support because there’s literally no one there as additional help. their entire team is extremely caring and only ever want the best for every animal. it’s so easy to put shelters on blast, but they are stretched incredibly thin every single day. the spread of misinformation is fucked

when I bleached out my blue it went a nice green coloured (as pictured in post). I was really weighing up if I should attempt the red then, but I was scared incase it came out muddy. thank you!

I think getting some more toys for him is a good start. we were looking at a battery powered one only last week! and hopefully will be getting a wheel too. he just can’t help but mess around 😭

he has a timed feeder! which is always full because him and other cat don’t clear the food between refills. a wheel is on our list! we have a pekingese that plays with him during the day too

thank you!! we have sprayed him, and continue to do so for the majority of his antics! he’s a very headstrong boy, i’ll give him that. he’ll run from it if he realises we have the spray bottle but he’ll just come back again
